This bar is below street level down a short flight of stairs, very neighborhood feel with many regulars at the bar. There is also a area with tables for food service. I never tried very many items but I found the ones I did order to be fine. This is located in the Columbia university area but is not a prime hang out for undergrads except on Thursday nights! There are grad students that are regulars but they are usually non-offensive and keep to themselves. Bartenders are efficient and friendly and I don’t have a problem recommending this bar if you are in the area or both foods and beverages

This pub is super chill and homey. I came here a few times since my friend lives in the Upper West Side. It is small, but everyone is friendly and the neighborhood welcomes anybody. The bartender/owner is brilliant, down to earth, a great joke teller, and definitely keeps the energy high here. I met such a wide range of colorful and unique people every time I stopped by for a drink. Beers are preferred here in this divey scene and mixed drinks are pricier. It is a good place to kickback after work and it is also cool to pregame here before heading to the more crowded club scene areas. The prices are good here with some specials every once and a while. Ask about the dice game! ;)

Familial, neighborhood bar. Bartenders are very friendly, especially Paul. The clientele consists of well-mannered folks who come after work. And the food ain’t bad.

Comfortable and friendly is the best way to describe the Abbey Pub. It’s a great place to enjoy good food and drink, and to just get away from it all. Every night is an adventure, whether it be the food specials, the off color jokes, or just the pleasure of being in a really good place. This is the best mini«Cheers» in New York, with an amazing staff, a great Chef, and a unique assortment of NEWYORK!

Doesn’t get better than The Abbey. Bartenders who tell jokes, popcorn and cheese puffs on the bar, friendly staff, homemade potstickers, awesome wings and an eclectic crowd of locals and Columbia grad students. Trendy drinks, loud music and fashionistas not here.

This place is always good. I wish I could come by as often as I used to. Service is always good no matter what bartender you have. The people are generally good here. And Paul is most likely the most down to earth bar owner in the city:) They always have good beer on tap and they have popcorn too.

Paul is a very pleasant bartender. I have been there twice and ordered a Guinness. First, it was a proper pour. The only shortcoming was that they did not have my favorite scotch. They are right next to a very good Chinese restaurant. Forget the name but worth a shot also.

Great burger and another hidden gem in the UWS/Columbia university area. During the weekend the cook tends to cook the burger more well than I like it, compared to during the week. Our waitress was personable and laid back. It feels like you’re traveling back in time to that small town pub where everyone gets along and there’s no drama. Never been here during its busiest, but I never intend to since I don’t like super loud places. Will be back for sure for a burger and beer again.

«You wanna go where everybody knows your name!» describes this long-established neighborhood pub to a «T». Not only is it a friendly, cozy, and fun atmosphere, the food is great down home cooking, there’s a great variety of beers, and the desserts are all homemade. Weekly trivia, karaōke, weekend music, and seasonal food events will make you agree why locals like me love this place!

The place was fine, the food was good(the Cuban sandwich was a little dry) but mostly entertaining. The waitress was either drunk or super high but it was so funny to see her struggling not to look like that. Another waitress apologize and wasn’t a big deal

Words can’t express how much I love this place. Paul is an absolute GEM and when it’s less crowded he’s always good for entertainment and jokes. Their wings and buffalo chicken wraps are straight FIRE, I actually cannot go a week without consuming them.

My favorite neighborhood bar on the Upper West. My friends and I usually end up here at least once a week. Atmosphere is lively and energetic and the crowd mostly consists of neighborhood regulars. Ages vary. Paul, the owner and head bartender, is the best part about the bar. He makes friends with everyone who comes in and knows the regulars well. Prices are affordable and food is delicious — the buffalo chicken wrap is my favorite!

Amazing food. Good atmosphere. Very affordable prices. Try the big German beer for $ 5 anytime. The food is very tasty and nice portions. This is the second time we are coming here and for sure we are coming back. Very recommended!

Seems like this place can be very different throughout the week. I didn’t eat here, just grabbed a drink with a friend and talked to the bartender. Pretty friendly crowd overall, seemed very comfortable and relaxed.

Awesome place to be. It has such a comfortable vibe and the bar tenders are great! Paul really knows how to keep the vibe up beat and gets everyone to enjoy their time there! My roommates and I love going there, a great place to start or end our nights! I would totally recommend the buffalo chicken wrap!

Wonderful place. Traveling here alone and going there regularly for the past couple of days, the service is great, the bartender is funny and nice. The beers could be cheaper, but that seems to be the price all over NYC. You get free popcorn when sitting at the bar! The regulars are very nice and friendly, enjoyed their company very much, the waitresses are very nice as well! Oh, and free Wi-Fi to all those traveling around.

Charming establishment, somewhat. The bar itself is somewhat charming. The people… uhhh…well, they vary. I have had fun drunken karaōke there. It’s the kind of place you stumble into(literally) and possibly hook up with somebody whose name you’ll not remember. There are a lot of douchey kids that hang out here. Free popcorn and pretzels. Yay. Bartenders are decent and make decent drinks. Somewhat reasonably priced.

The Abbey used to be one of my go-to places on the UWS. It’s great for groups, because you can usually get at least one of the long tables that seat like ten people. I went here at least once a month during my undergrad years. I have lots of fondness for the management staff, because one time, I drunkenly left my camera(a brand new Nikon SLR) here and I was sure that it was gone forever — until I called the next day, and the manager informed me that he had put it into the office for safekeeping. For a high-traffic bar like The Abbey, this was exceptionally nice news to hear, and I got my camera back safe and sound. However, one thing that bothers me, which has happened consistently, is that they barely itemize the bills and I am almost positive that they take advantage of big groups. The bills are hand-written — rather, hand-scrawled — in completely illegible scribbles, so even if you wanted to see how much your one pint cost, there’s no way you could. I’ve had to pay over $ 20 just for two beers when out with a big group before, and I’m still not sure how that’s possible, when my friends usually are pretty responsible about paying their part of the bill.
