What a nice mellow place by Hudson in the Soho… great brews homemade on tap and appetizers are killer.

this place is HORRENDOUS. The service is terrible the food is terrible all around a terrible experience. I took clients here one afternoon and that sat us right by the door, it was FREEZING. When asked if there was more seating they said«no sit at the bar» the apps came out in a decent amt of time, but the food took very long. We order chicken sandwiches and burgers, idk why it should take almost ½ hour to make either of those two. The waiter was horrible rude, arrogant and nasty. I will not be coming back here for sure– not like i would ever pass it since it;s pretty much at the end of the earth. I do not recommend this place. Stay far far far far away!

cute spot! been here a couple of times for convenience sake(next to holland tunnel)~ and each visit has been wonderful~! the food and drinks are always great with friendly service! super chill spot to catch up with friends. i guess the only down side is that it’s not an easy spot to get to for most new yorkers lol aimed to cater to the tribeca locals~ but highly recommended if you’re looking for a secluded hang out spot~ i really enjoyed the mushroom pappardelle, which is so full of flavor! the mac & cheese is a comforting favorite too! that’s usually the go-to when stopping by 508. duck nachos are great for sharing! i know they have awesome beers too as they brew it in-house so that’s next on my bucket list! and if you’re not a beer person, no bigs! their drinks are super tasty and can’t go wrong with their selection of signature cocktails! all in all, really like this spot, looking to return soon!

My friends and I wandered in here on a Friday afternoon and couldn’t have had a better time. Dimly lite but still comfortable, with a pleasant patio out front. Our bartender was knowledgeable, friendly, laid back, and gave us some great recs for beer. We did the beer flight and the mead flight. Yes, they have a mead flight. Beer(which they brew in the basement) is fresh and flavorful, I liked the IPA best. We also got the duck nachos, which were everything you want in a nacho. Sturdy tortilla chips to handle the weight of all those toppings, paired with delicious guac and some other equally tasty cream sauce.

The beer they had on tap was completely different from what was on their website and if you’re a brewery, I think you should keep that website up to date. I had checked that day and we were in early. The beer was still good but there were two I really wanted to try that weren’t actually available. The food was good but it sounded better on the menu than in actuality. If I lived in the neighborhood, I would probably stop by occasionally but I don’t think it’s worth the trip which is kind of a disappointment since they’ve been great at different craft beer events and Eric and I were really looking forward to going in.

508 Gastro[pub]Brewery has a case of multiple personalities. From the sidewalk and walking in, it is a chic restaurant that may double as a wine bar with its minimalist, modern bar. Inside, its beer menu screams«craft» but everything is just a step too far into niche — coconut beers and wheat wine [beer] before nailing the basics of a good, craft ale. The food was pricey and nothing great; a few friends chose from 508’s specialty cocktail list and were disappointed [if the venue is listening, the mojito and elderberry cocktails]. Then there was a sudden jazz band(which was nice, but again out of place) Everything is sort of nice but very discordant. I will give them points for friendly service and accommodating our surprise large group without issue. The beers were very reasonably priced during happy hour($ 5 until 7pm). That happy hour isn’t posted on their website, and could be easier to get info on to help fill the place.

Very low key(tucked away in the South Village) and trendy place. Unique selection of craft beers with a knowledgeable and friendly staff to make helpful recommendations. The Happy Hour special for Oysters and flatbread pizzas are my go tos although everything on the menu sounds incredible and i want to try it all. The artichoke pizza is delicious and very popular — i saw tons of other patrons eating it and i had to get it. I’ve also had the fig jam and jamon which was also very tasty but just a tiny bit too sweet. I would also recommend the brisket sliders — they are a bit spicey but tender and addictive(i could have eaten 5). The food is pricey for the small portions however very tasty. The Oysters are a great deal — very fresh East and West coast for $ 1.50 a piece. The ambiance is very cool and makes you want to come back — dimmed lights with candles and outdoor seating in the front. The bar displays artistic images from all over the City on a sleek screen. Theres one night during the week(Tuesday if im not mistaken) that they have live jazz. Overall, a really chic and cool place for after work drinks.

My favorite place in the South Village. This section of Greenwich Street is a fabulous, non-tourist area and 508 GastroBrewery certainly adds to the ambiance. Always a very low-key but trendy crowd and hip décor is right on. Has that certain vibe that makes you want to come back. The selection of craft beers is great and the bartender is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. She has developed several very tasty adult drinks that you have to try. Sit at the bar and enjoy a dozen or two of oysters. This has to be the best deal in all of Manhattan and the oysters are always served in a nice presentation on ice. I’m trying to convince them to serve saltine crackers(it’s a southern thing). The chorizo calamari is always spot on, the shrimp and lobster dishes are delicious and the burgers are juicy and tender. I’ve noticed a few negative reviews and I just don’t get it. Those people just have to complain about something. Get a life. I’ve never had a bad experience at 508 and frankly I’ve never seen another patron not have a good time.

Saturday 7:30pm We had very attentive service at this trendy beer bar. They brew their own beer onsite. which is a plus The 10 oz. «Pat La Frieda» Burger is pretty good. My wife really enjoyed the Lobster, Shrimp Pappardelle. The place wasn’t packed so we had plenty of room to eat. Can’t say how it is when it’s much more crowded.

There seems to be a bit of a dearth of brewpubs in downtown Manhattan, likely because the overhead is so insanely high it prohibits small spots from starting up on a shoestring budget. Enter already established restaurants look to stand out, which is the history that I bet 508 Restaurant & Bar has. What an elegant spot. Everything from the tables and chairs to the decorations to the lighting was spot on. I’d feel comfortable coming here on a first date or a 20th anniversary, or even by myself with a book, as was the case on this evening. And I’m not alone on the reverence for the vibe; the guy sitting next to me was putting down a deposit on the place for his engagement party. I’ll let some pictures do the talking for the location and move on to the food and booze, both of which I also found fantastic. Torn between homemade pasta and decadent burgers, I went with the latter to provide a better base on which to drink. A sizable chunk of cow comes perfectly cooked on a Portuguese muffin — whatever the hell that is — adorned by… actually… I don’t remember. But it was juicy and damned good. Next to the excellent burger came some obviously hand-battered onion rings. Crisp on the outside with excellent flavor, they embodied my preference in O-ring style, though the breading fell off pretty readily after a single bite. On to the beer. I didn’t expect much, as this place is a nanobrewery at best. I’m not even sure they produce a barrel at a time. Working on such small equipment, I expected the brews to taste like homebrew. But they didn’t. Everything was clear and crisp, and the number of different beers was astounding for the small operation. I think they had ten of their own brews on tap that night. Since the beers change basically on a nightly basis, I don’t know that it makes any sense to talk about my favorites as they likely won’t be there should you ever decide to check the place out yourself. But there was one of note — a «donut stout» infused with coffee and perfect for dipping carbohydrates. The keg blew on that one before I got through the sampler, however, so I went with a Belgian dubbel, which was spot-on in my opinion. Finally, the bartender was awesome. She knew when to chat and when to tend bar, always kept my drinks full, and gave knowledgeable recommendations. She’s clearly been at it a long time, both at 508 and other locations. A real pro, which I really appreciate.

As beer has made the transition from blue collar brew to serious tipple, restauranteurs have struggled to refine the food served to match this newfound seriousness. The first noticeable beer bar was Beer Table in Park Slope where $ 100 rare beers were served alongside strong cheeses and refined takes on the ploughman’s lunch. Jimmy’s 43 pairs brewer visits, limited vintages and paired suppers in an underground East Village spot. 508 joins the field pretty far into this trend. It’s a self-styled«gastro-brewery.» The main sign has the word«brewery» in five times larger font than gastro, to reinforce where the focus of this place lies. The brews range from indistinctive lagers to more experimental and generally successful IPAs and ales. The food that comes with these libations unfortunately falls into an uncanny valley between unpretentious and upscale. The duck nachos, now seemingly everywhere below Manhattan, are thick with BBQ sauce and cheese, but lacking the kick and contrast that’s require for this dish to be anything more than an efficient delivery system for an entire day’s recommended caloric intake. The stuffed calamari is much smaller than advertised — it’s about three pieces of shrimp, with a bit of sausage and few large beans — and about as satisfying as an amuse-bouche. It’s fine, although it didn’t really add anything when paired with a beer. Too often, this restaurant feels like what it believes a wine beer that focuses on beer would be like, rather than having its own point of you. The environment is generic and like the menu, lacks a strong point of view. It’s impossible to stand out without taking more risks.

Housemade Beer and an innovative menu makes 508 one of my favorites places to eat in the city. It’s fun and casual. Some of the best dishes that I often crave are the bulgogi sliders, lobster and shrimp pappardelle, spare ribs and the burger. The menus changes often, so there is always new and interesting dishes. Nice and friendly staff. Besides the great beers, the wine list is quite eclectic. One of my favorites and owned by a female chef.

My boyfriend and I dined here one Friday night and we were surprised to find the place quite empty on a Friday night. As usual we wanted to order a bottle of wine, but they did not have any wine lists printed at the moment which was odd. We just went with the flow and asked for a bottle of malbec and nothing too pricey. I guess this was a mistake on our part, as the waiter ended up bringing us a 60 $ bottle of wine(which was found out about at the end-whatever we had an open table 20 $ cheque so it balanced out). On to the food: oysters(Very good), beef brisket sliders(DELICIOUS), and chorizo stuffeed calamari awesomeeeeeeeeee. For our main we shared the Lobster, Shrimp Pappadelle and we were pleasantly surprised at how big and filled the portion was. The shrimp and lobster were cooked to perfection and the sauce was just SO good. Definitely left in a food coma.

I wanted to try their beers so we showed up on Saturday but they were closed. A bar closed on Saturday? I called and when someone picked up she informed me that they open at 3:30 on Saturday. We waited around at another place and we walked into an empty bar. I tried 4 of their beers and they were all pretty solid. One of my favorites was the Gose which was just sour enough but easily drinkable. The Spruce Almighty was also pretty good for a seasonal beer-I’m not a fan of gimmicky seasonal beers(pumpkin beers and the like are not my thing.) Despite the 5 of being the only people in the bar the bartender didn’t really seem to offer us too many suggestions or check on us. I suppose he was expecting more people and didn’t feel like he had to show us much attention. The beers are good enough to come back for and their oyster happy hour is good enough to return to.

I came here because I met the brewmaster at a beer event and it sounded like they were doing some great stuff. They are! There’s lots of creative beers on the menu and we tried most of them. So why the three stars? The place is overpriced. Additionally, my veggie burger was ok, but pretty bland over all. We got the brownie dessert, which was $ 10. It was a small, paper thin, stale brownie with a spoonful of vanilla ice cream. Outrageous. My friend ordered a side of fries — SEVENDOLLARS for a small portion.

Cool little spot with an interesting beer list(they could probably trim the names down); ceviche really hit the spot and buffalo ricotta was good but nothing to write home about. Short rib burger and short rib meatball pasta entrees got rave reviews from my buddies and I thought the duck tagliatelle was well balanced and delicious. Not cheap, but for dinner at a bar at 10pm on a Friday night, nice space, big open doors/windows, good beers, good food, good service… it was well worth it.

I was looking for something different in the West Village that wasn’t another candle lit bistro overflowing with foodies or a trendy spot frequented by would-be stars. I had heard about the 508 from the local brewer’s association and decided to swing south from the area of West 12th to the western side of Spring Street to find this little modern venue. While I was looking at the menu and siting at the bar, I noted the beer taps were all from that location and brewed on site. I found them to be quite good, while the other focus of the venue seemed to be of the mixologist kind. The lamb burger was my choice for dinner and one of the darker ales there made a great pairing. It was easily a ½ lb after cooking, so I had to take my time with it. Paired with fries, I was loving my selection as one of the better choices made recently. While I was there, I also had the honor of meeting the new brew-master who took his time to show me what they were working on there. It was clear his vision was helping to drive the 508 to new places.

I’ve been here twice for the food and their personal beers. The beers are great, solid selection(a bit overpriced) but good range of ipa’s, stouts, and porters. I had the lamb burger based on reviews and it wasn’t as great as I wanted it to be, good spices, but nothing special. The place itself is nice, not too crowded, and the wait staff do their best to keep the drinks coming. A little on the expensive side though.

Little Miss Muffet sat on her barstool drinking her pricey martini… Along came a spider and sat down beside her… and there’s nothing that rhymes with martini. No…but seriously. A spider descended from the ceiling while I was at the bar. Meh… things happen, I guess. The bar area was a tight squeeze… but it wasn’t uncomfortable. I liked the ambiance, the service was friendly and the food was alright. There’s nothing special about 508 and it’s kind of out of the way… I doubt I’ll find a reason to return.

Since my last review here– I’ve become not only a regular at this place, but for a while I was the mayor on foursquare. What can I say? I really love this place. The cocktail list is a must try! Also, who doesn’t love beer that was brewed on location? If you’ve ever seen Crazy, Stupid, Love, take a look at the trendy bar scenes in the movie… the ambiance of this place gives me that cool, sexy vibe. Aside from that, I think the whole menu is simply, yum. I’m a little upset they got rid of the Fried Zucchini, but I’m going to live. Try the truffle mac and cheese, goat ragu and the hanger steak. The bulgugi sliders are also really good. Also I like the spinach dip! Anything you pick will make you happy– add an amazing cocktail and you’ll be even happier! The service here is also amazing– everyone is super helpful and friendly!
