A friend recommended this place and I thought the menu looked great so I wanted to give it a shot. I made a reservation with Lia or so I thought. Upon arrival, my friend and I stood at the door for some time while everyone was just staring and talking amongst themselves. No one greeted us at the door or asked us if we had reservations. It was packed, but still someone could have greeted us for a few seconds and let us know if there would be a wait. My friend and I just wanted to celebrate her engagement, but luckily Harlem Tavern was down the street. Food looks great, but management needs to get it together.

LOVED brunch at 5& Diamond!!! She had the Chicken and Waffle, I had the Shrimp and cheesy grits. The drinks were the boommmbb. 2 and we were lit. No real need for unlimited drinks unless you’re a heavy drinker, these drinks pack a punch. can’t wait to go back.

This was probably one of the most peculiar dining experiences I’ve ever had… Before I even arrive I get a call from my friend, «Hey, do you know if there’s an ATM nearby, the sign on the door says cash only.» Of course, I was confused because after looking the place up I didn’t see anything about it being cash only. Ok, small potatoes, I stopped by an ATM on the way. Apparently, the card machine was down. When I arrived my friend had a shot, there was a glass of water at my place setting but none at hers and there were no menus on the table. Apparently, she’d mentioned her early morning to the server and instead of bringing menus to the table he brought her a shot. When we got the menus they were paper menus, half of the things listed in the brunch menu online weren’t listed and the menus were very dirty. I got the chicken and pancakes, my friend got the mangu and the bottomless mimosas. We had to repeat our order twice because he’d forgotten it and when we asked for recommendations he said«I like fancier things so I’m not the best person to ask» Um, ok so go work at a fancy restaurant, but you should know the food on your menu. Then I asked for coffee and was told that they couldn’t because the machine was broken… Um what? You have brunch and no coffee, get the fuck out of here?! Do you not know that brunch is for hungover people who couldn’t be up for breakfast. And you don’t have coffee… 2 minutes later the other server comes up and asks for our order again. I’m getting the distinct feeling that our server is either very bad or very into my friend. Either way we were confused. The mimosas were pretty mediocre, Tropicana and cheap champagne, the same type you’d make if you were having brunch at home, presumably. The pancakes were really good, the chicken on top was bland and dry although the coating was perfectly crispy. Y’all heard of salt? The mangu which I tried a bit of was delicious though. It took forever to get the check but when he finally brought it he insisted hat we take shots with him. It was a generally, genuinely baffling experience. If I lived nearby I’d get the pancakes to go but seeing as I don’t I likely won’t be back.

Been here a few times and thought the food and service was good for a local place. I am sitting here having a terrible this time. No beer, credit card machine not working and have literally been waiting more than 30 minutes after our appetizers and no entrees. People who came after us were served before us. Its not like its busy mind you. More than half the tables are empty so no reason for the wait. Still waiting and no entrees yet. Last time I am coming here .

My food was amazing! We were a little sketched out when we first got there for dinner because we literally were the only ones there, but then we realized no one in NYC eats dinner on a Saturday night at 6:30pm. I ordered the flank steak which was mouthwatering delicious and perfectly medium rare cooked and the goat cheese pureed potatoes were a perfect compliment. The sauteed kale was garlicky and delicious(my only complaint is to cut the stalks out!). Normally I would have wanted more of the balsamic glaze on the steak, but it was okay since the husband is allergic to balsamic vinegar and I was able to share some steak wit him. My husbands burger was alright. All I ask is for some real desserts! We ordered the only thing which was described as a chocolate mousse but it tasted like chocolate pudding from the grocery store. We also got the macaroni and cheese which was really good. The flavors were absolutely delicious, even if it wasn’t the most creamy consistency. On a separate note, I loved the ambiance of the place. We were there for like two hours just drinking wine and listening to the awesome music and watching everyone who came in who appeared to be best friends with the staff and bartenders. Seems like a really great place with a great atmosphere. And no complaints about the service, but we also weren’t there when it was very busy.

We pick this restaurant to meet friends visiting from Paris. I read the reviews that the food was good but the service slow — we weren’t in a hurry so we gave it a try. Our wonderful waiter spoke French — from Switzerland! I couldn’t find something to pick about if I tried. Water glasses always full — more bread? Yes, please! We met early but as the place filled up the service was still excellent. Either something has changed or others have been in a hurry. The only thing was technical — no credit cards, just for the evening I think. This was disappointing because they were on the mileage plan and also our share of dinner was $ 120 which is more cash than we normally carry on us.

So, this my second time here. I came a few months ago in the spring time. The food is still very good, but the service is constantly terrible(possibly even worse than the first time). There really is no excuse since it was not packed this time. There seems to be a sense of «that’s not my job»(just my opinion) as I see a bartender and a water girl stand around with no customers but not refill my bottomless beverage or see if we are okay. I really want this place to stick around and succeed bc of the food but they really just need to make simple upgrades in their service because it’s really inexcusably horrible. Update after I get my bill: tried to charge $ 10 for eggs($ 5 for each egg when my friend only asked for one) and then also tried to charge extra for ordered mimosas after the time limit when no one told us our time limit was up. That was a disappointment that was rectified but just attributes to the poor service. I honestly hadn’t seen our server since we ordered(had to find him for that) until we were ready to pay out bill(had to find him for that too). What’s worse is that the manager is present. All in all the food is great BUT they might have just lost me today for at least a long while

You guys know that you can get customized ink stamps? No? Me either. The chef, Joe, has a backpack of customized ink stamps and, one time, after a couple Bourbon Champagnes, I let him stamp my brand new Stan Smith sneakers. That’s love. You gotta support the local artist community y’know. Now, every time I go back, I wear my Stan Smiths and that’s a beautiful thing. Really though, the main reason I keep coming back and back is the co-owner, Djo. He’s one of the friendliest, coolest, nicest guys I’ve met and it makes me happy to feel like I’m supporting a business of his. Real shit. The nitty-gritty: 1. Not going to lie, the service is usually pretty slow, and sometimes even a little frustrating. 2. The food is great. I’ve gotten the burger, the mac and cheese, and the chicken&pancakes and all of those options are good choices. 3. If you come for brunch, you’ll see that everyone has the same drink. That’s the Bourbon Champagne. Get that shit unlimited and go to work. I rounded my 4-star rating up to 5 because this is a place that everyone should want to succeed and stay around for a long time.

Had a mediocre meal with mediocre cocktails — the unlimited deal for brunch is a steep $ 17 for only one hour of cocktails, and each refill takes at least 15 minutes. I barely finished two cocktails in the 60 minutes and I was trying to hurry. This is all not to mention the fact that two of the entrees on the menu were«unavailable», and the menu presented was completely different from the menu on the website. I am so incredibly disappointed. I spent way too much at this restaurant for terrible service and so-so food. I will NEVER be back.

My girlfriend and I came for brunch with high hopes. The food looked great and we love finding new local spots in Harlem. Unfriendly the service killed our experience. We ordered biscuits to start and never received them, even though tables around us did. Then only one of our entrees came out. My girlfriend and I finished her entrée long before mine came out, and when it did, the chicken to pancake ratio was quite sad. What makes this experience especially unfortunate is that the food was delicious. The service was just so unorganized that we couldn’t fully enjoy the great meals we had. Luckily our bill was adjusted, however we did have to ask for it to be. Considering the rest of the meal, who knows it they would have adjusted it in their own.

There’s really no reason to talk about the food because ya see here… it’s just good. So let that soak in for a sec… Because on the other hand, the service can get weird as can one of the managers. It’s likely an order can be taken wrong(thank goodness for my first point) and you end up with a different dish. Ok, fine but sometimes I don’t want to deal with that. Joe, the other manager — is a sweetheart and will remember you. I’m feelin’ that. Great place for a date, or to bring someone who’s not from Harlem. Good feel/atmosphere and yummy cocktails. Open up those front doors and just chill.

Phenomenal food! Was looking for a Sunday brunch with to stock up on bottomless booze before the matchup between NYCFC and RBNY at Yankee Stadium. Looked around, and ultimately decided on 5& Diamond because of both the food options and the booze options. I was dead set on mangu with eggs served with chorizo and fried cheese. However, my two friends decided they wanted to get that, so I opted for the chicken and pancakes. I mean, I was in Harlem after all. Note that the reason one of my friends went for mangu was because there was no roasted pork hash. The menu for that day will be a limited version of the online menu unfortunately. Chicken was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside; perfectly cooked. Pancakes with slightly crispy on the outside and still moist and airy on the inside. I might possibly be swayed away from chicken and waffles. Haven’t decided yet. I tried my friends’ mangu. I must admit I was really jealous. I don’t have much experience with mangu, but the one here was so delicious. Lots of flavor and small chunks of plantain among the mashed plantain made for a delightful texture. And although I didn’t get to try them personally, I heard the chorizo and fried cheese were top notch. As for the booze, I went with the bourbon champagne cocktail. It was quite delicious and obviously boozy, albeit VERY sweet. In fact, I had to switch to bloody mary. Luckily, they allowed me to switch to a different drink. The blood mary was SOOO good. Lots of horseradish and worcestershire. In fact, I didn’t taste the tomato too much. I’m not too big on bloody marys that taste like V8. The service was top notch once we were seated. It was bit shaky at first, as we had made reservations for noon and weren’t seated for about 10 minutes. Mind you there were only 3 of us, and the restaurant was only 1⁄3 full. However, allowing me to switch drinks midway through my hour and fitting one more cocktail in under the wire, I praise the staff highly! Also, the food came out quite quickly. We didn’t even get to finish our first round of drinks!

My dining experience at 5&D was exceptional! I had a groupon and it was the last day to use it. I made a reservation for 7pm but failed to mention the groupon and was a little worried we might encounter a problem using it on short notice. However when I arrived with my sisters we were seated immediately and John assured us we were fine using the groupon. He was an excellent host and he along with the waiter and other staff were very attentive and personable the entire time we were there making sure we were enjoying everything. They made great recommendations on drinks/food and everything was delicious and cooked to perfection! We will definitely be back to try the brunch! Though small & quaint it has a lovely, laid back, modern atmosphere and is great for catching up with friends or even going on a date. 2 thumbs up!

Food: 3.5 Stars Service: 3 Stars We stopped by 5& Diamond for brunch on our way to the Bronx zoo. At first we had a little trouble finding a place uptown but after a while we stumbled upon 5& Diamond. First impressions, the décor is quite nice but seating is a little bit scarce. Our waiter wasn’t very attentive or energetic seeming like they had had a hangover from the previous evening. Food was decent but nothing special. I ordered the slow roasted pork hash which came out a little burnt. It came with salad and two pieces of toast, which I also noticed were basically on the point of being burnt black as well. My girlfriend ordered the omelette which came with potatoes and mushrooms inside the omelette. Her entrée was actually quite decent and cooked very nicely. The dark greens also looked quite fresh when they came with her dish. The tables next to us had opted for one of their boozy brunch deals which looked quite good. If you’re in the area, it’s an ok brunch place, but nothing special in my opinion.

We came here to celebrate a birthday on a Friday night. The location is handy to get to by train as it is just a couple of blocks north of the 110th Street ACE stop, at the northwest corner of Central Park. The actual place could easily be missed as there is no prominent signage. The ambiance is modern and cozy. The restaurant probably seats about 50 total including seats at the bar. The place is very clean. Food was excellent. We were a party of 6 and had a smattering of small plates to start. We had the Mac and cheese, ribs, cornbread, and chicken wings. The Mac and cheese was excellent, and we got another order with dinner. The cornbread was really good too. We ordered another one but they said they were out… For dinner I had the burger and fries. It was one of the better ones I have had. I tried my partner’s hangar steak and it just melted in my mouth. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The entrees for the rest of my party looked yummy as well. The Brussels sprouts were good but my homemade version is better in my opinion. I feel that the Brussels sprouts needed to be a little more browned. Drinks were good too. I had the golden djo, which seems to be the place’s signature drink. One of the owners gave us a round of champagne on the house as we were celebrating a birthday. Now service… It was acceptable but could be better. The place was busy, but I feel it was manageable(based on my past experience as a waiter, server and bus boy). The drinks took about 20 – 25 minutes to be brought to the table with the small plates coming out about 15 minutes after. Between that and dinner I went to use the restroom, and I peaked in the kitchen. It’s pretty small and it looked like there was only one person cooking. The Friday special was advertised as chicken and waffles, but we were told that the chef decided not to do it(and we were like, okay, then why put it on the menu). Also, the credit card machine was ‘not working’ so was had to pay in cash. Yet I noticed one of the bar patrons paying their tab with their credit card! I didn’t say anything but that sparked some red flags. We would definitely be back. We heard that the brunches were amazing. I do want to check out that chicken and waffles still!!!
