I’ve come to Knightsbridge a lot recently after attending some of their round table tastings. Knightsbridge has an amazing selection of wines, particularly Burgundy. If you have the budget, you can do some damage here, as I’m sure many do. However, they have great selections at all price points. California cabs, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Oregon Pinots, Sauternes, Port, Sherry, Madeira, Bourbon, Scotch and any other fine beverage product you can think of they stock. As previously mentioned, the tastings they often host are fun ways to taste and learn about world class wines, and you’re never pushed into purchasing anything. Their yearly Burgundy tasting is unmatched in or around Chicago — usually takes place in early November. The friendly staff is very knowledgeable and can help you make a selection or gladly answer any question you have about wine or spirits. I’m pretty sure everyone that works there is named Matt, but the General Manager Matt Gundlach is particular is passionate about Burgundy, American Whisky, and the Chicago Bears. If anything a visit to Knightsbridge is worthwhile for the passionate conversation alone. Highly recommended!

IMO this shop is great wine resource unique to the North Shore of Chicago, and for Chicago itself. If a person wants a $ 15 bottle, I have found they can offer it to you too, with the expertise to back up why it is many degrees more pleasing than a similar price bottle from the big box down the road. They have also sourced for me the up and coming great wines, and the high scorers, and soon to be, often on the shelves. I urge a visit to their elegant and comfortable shop. I have enjoyed many hours sharing tastings, and vicarious tastings, with the staff and fellow customers. Mea Culpa, often I have exited without making a purchase, yet I have still been graciously welcomed back. To me, great wine is a magic experience, and much of my enlightenment has been thanks to Knightsbridge. .

As Keith mentions, this isn’t a place to shop for inexpensive bottles of wine. Their niche falls into the higher end of the price/quality spectrum — and their selection reflects this. There are plenty of current vintages available on the shelves, but I also noticed many back vintage options(especially in Bordeaux & Burgundy). If was also one of the first places I’ve seen a Rayas Blanc on the shelf. That’s cool shit.

Do not shop here!!! I have always had odd experiences at Knightsbridge but they do have a great selection so I have used them ocasionally to buy special wines. This last time was the last straw and I will NEVER buy from them again. I went in wanting a couple of bottels of very special wine for my 10th wedding anniversary. I was helped by Matt the manager and he came thru immediately and helped me pick two great bottles(totaling $ 1300) out. I left them at the shop as I had no where to put them at home that my husband would not see. When I went home I discovered I had already purchased one of the wines for my husband a couple of years prior as an anniversary gift(my fault for not brining our wine list). I called immediately and was told the wines were not returnable(even though I did not have possesion of them) when I asked to speak to the owner they did call me back and told me they would do an exchange. I was very happy with that resolution as all I wanted were some special wines. At this time Matt was on vacation for two weeks and no one else could seem to help me so I had to wait for his return. I called him when he returned and he said he would figure out what else they could find me and get back to me(orginally he had said they could get other wines from the supplier). Well he never did. I waited a week and did not hear one word from him. I called him on Monday this week and left a message with the girl who answered the phone, then after about four hours having not heard from him I called again and left a voice message, then called again after about two hours and finally got him. He was totally unhelpful and told me they had nothing. REALLY? After over a week he couldn’t find anything! So now it is two days from my 10th anniversary and I have no present for my husband. AGAINDONOTSHOPHERE. Funny thing is that my husband and I have a 3000 bottle wine cellar in our home and we spend 10’s of thousands of dollars a year on wine. Clearly, not at Knightsbridge!!!

It needs to be said right off, this isn’t the place where you come and buy a quick $ 10 – 15 bottle of wine. However, this is the place where you want to come to find something different and special. Everything at knightsbridge is top notch. The wine selection is amazing for a burgundy whore like me, and they are deep in lots of great italian and other french wine as well. While you aren’t paying cheap prices, you are generally getting what you pay for from small grower champagnes to hard to find pinots and rieslings. The staff is great too and very helpful. While the store may initially come off as stuffy or pretentious, the staff is far from that. Being under 35 and buying wine, I will sometimes come across stores where I will get vibed and talked down to because of my age, but that has never been the case here and has been the opposite in fact. While I normally know what I want when I go in, when I don’t I’ll just give some vague descriptions of what I’m looking for and I have yet to be disappointed. The only drawback is that it isn’t the easiest place to find, and you have to want to find it. But, its well worth the trip if you want something real nice, and its always been worth going back

I like this store for the dedication to excellence they seem to have. I don’t think there is a more serious wine store in the Chicago area — certainly this is as serious as I have visited. The prices reflect both the caliber of the wines and the clientele of the well-to-do neighborhoods nearby but they do have some good sales once or twice a year. This is a top notch shop. I must comment, however, that this is one of those wine shops that gives wine a «snobby» name. The folks here are very cordial, but bordering on aloof in my experience. Polite and knowledgeable all the way — and I love excellent service. But I don’t feel comfortable here — I almost feel unworthy to wander the isles. My $.02.
