I’m dissapointed with my fellow helpers for giving this place somewhat favorable reviews. Went for dinner on a Friday night. The service was good, the ambience nice and the management was present. Now to the food… bleh …my husbands chicken looked like a plate brought to you in a hospital room. The $ 17 salad I ordered was boring. Found the food to be extremely generic and overpriced for what was served. Not sure what this restaurant wants to be. Will not be returning.

Excellent as usual. Brought my mom here for dinner. My husband and Mom had the salmon. I chose my usual French Dip. All were up to par. For dessert we split the carrot cake. My Mom really enjoyed everything about the restaurant. We will be returning for it is one of our regular spots.

This is a frequent spot for me to meet former colleagues for dinner/drinks over the past 3 years. This past visit really rubbed me the wrong way. First, it felt like we were being rushed into our orders. We ordered drinks and when they arrived, we were expected to have our appetizer and entrée order ready. Sorry, bud, we’re going to take our time. The food was pretty good, we had a variety of salads and sandwiches that had good portion size and interesting flavors. But what really ticked me off was the service, or lack thereof, after our meal. After our plates were taken away, we weren’t asked if we’d like another glass of wine(yes, we would have) and the waiter just brought the check. What’s worse, not only did they not refill our water glasses, they took them away. So we sat there for 30 minutes chatting with nothing to drink, when we would’ve kept ordering wine if the waiter had asked. If three people dine at your restaurant and have a nearly $ 200 tab, the least you can do is fill the fricken water glasses after the meal. With about a dozen open tables and booths in our section, it was a really disappointing lack of service.

This was my first time at J Alexander’s we went for dinner after the show at Marriott Lincolnshire. Party of 6 and we sat upon arrival. The food was great especially liked the grilled artichoke app the NY Strip with a loaded baked potato and the carrot cake. But the thing that really made the night was the service. Prompt efficient and friendly. Tia was one of the best servers I have had anywhere in a while. We all commented on how good she was during the evening. We will defiantly be back for our next suburban outing.

The food and waitressing staff was incredible. Don’t forget to make reservations.!! Met with few friends who supposedly were there few years ago and we all had great experience. They swear that this is their new favorite spot

We have returned here at least two or three times since my last review in 2013. The service has definitely improved dramatically. Each time we have noticed that the hostess staff comes to the door and opens it for you when you have an elderly person with you, they help you get to the table and dote on you very nicely. We enjoyed the crispy calamari with a highly flavored marinara sauce, the rotisserie chicken which was extremely juicy and very well cooked, the chicken Milanese which this time was a little smaller portion but still crispy and very tasty with champagne sauce and creamy mashed potatoes, and the last item was a special of the day — the crispy shrimp halibut served with is Israeli couscous and a large portion of sautéed yellow and green zucchini squash with onions and peppers. As always this was a birthday celebration so we ordered the amazing carrot cake. It’s nothing interesting or beautiful to look at — just a square slab of cake on the plate — but once you put your fork into it and taste it you’ll know why it is so good. Highly flavored and moist with just the right amount of fruit and nut pieces. They had a 2013 Honig Cabernet for $ 69 which is available at retail for $ 37 so just over doubling on the price which is quite a value compared to the $ 10 retail bottles they were selling for $ 32. The service was very good with just the right timing, follow up and quick return with missing silverware etc. Every time we have a meal here we wonder why we do not come more often!

Met friends for dinner Friday nite. Extremely busy and loud. Servers were not especially attentive nor pleasant. Ordered an entrée salad which was served with the dressing on. Was not given options for dressings on the side and was told it was ranch. The $ 19.00 salad was tasteless and I ate less than a quarter. All staff were young. Suggest they hire folks with experience who would take time with customers. I would not choose to eat here again and don’t understand its appeal.

Wife and I both ordered Parmesan Crusted New York steak. Undercooked on inside, burned on the outside and tasted like burning. Had to ask for BBQ sauce and not near worth the $ 32 each.

Don’t let the name change fool you! It has the same vibe and good food. Granted, I order the same thing almost every time, if it isn’t broke, right??? The mandarin martini, positive perfection! A perfectly balanced orange martini. The cheeseburger with Tillamook cheese is second to none. My only complaint — DITCHTHOSESKINNYFRIES, return to the handcut ones that are served hot. The ones that came with my last meal were stone cold *ugh*

My husband and I had dinner last night, and we really enjoyed the atmosphere and our food! I had the chef’s special Thai Grilled Salmon. The fish was cooked absolutely perfectly and the Thai chili sauce was an excellent complement! The veggies were not over cooked and the Louisiana rice was a surprisingly good compliment! My husband had the Filet Mignon with the Berbanaise sauce and the Baked Potato. He was in heaven as the Filet melted in our mouths. It was such a good cut of meat that was cut perfectly! The Baked potato was the works with cheese, bacon, all the works. Nice portion of food and delicious! I enjoyed a nice house Merlot with dinner, and my Husband tried the Thai Margarita. It was a good margarita, but my husband has more of a sweet tooth, so he put it aside and didn’t drink it. We are not ones to complain, so we just left it alone. When my husband got excited about the chocolate bundt cake(which was very very highly recommended) and our waiter saw that he did not touch the margarita, he asked my husband if he didn’t enjoy the margarita. Hubby explained it wasn’t sweet enough for him, and our waiter took it off our bill without our asking. He said that there is no sense in us paying $ 14 for a drink that we didn’t enjoy. In total, Redland’s by J Alexander has Excellent Food, Romantic Atmosphere, and an excellent staff(from hostess to table runner to waiter, everyone was very good). We were bummed that they were out of the famous grilled artichokes that we’ve heard so much about. We will have to try and come back so we can taste them.

My husband is a lunch regular and after hearing about this place for years, he finally took me for dinner on a weeknight. The name is a bit confusing — I’m told it used to be called J Alexander’s, but is now called Redlands Grill, but the signs still say J Alexander’s. I was pleasantly surprised by the meal. It was very good. We ordered the fire-grilled artichokes as an appetizer, which were excellent. For my main dish, I had the Thai-Kai Chicken Salad. It was HUGE with a LOT of chicken, flavored well, and fresh. I really enjoyed it. Service was also good. I’d like to come back again if in the area!

Stopped in for a quick lunch while traveling. Looks like a food place to come back for a steak! Had the trio appetizer with guacamole, spinach cheese dip and salsa, and a nice bowl of really good black bean soup!

J. Alexanders is one of my favorite places to dine in Michigan where I am from. This was my first time at this location. Steen was our server. He was very attentive and friendly. I got the chicken pasta soup and enjoyed every spoonful. I really would’ve taken a gallon to go. I also got a salad. My bf got the ribeye with fries and it was prepared just the way he wanted. I got a lemon drop martini and he got some sort of bourbon. Steen had to leave and a delightful young lady named Cara took over. We finished the night we that moist, warm, yummy carrot cake!!! All in all a great experience.

I joined a couple of work colleagues for drinks and dinner. I’ve been here before, and really wasn’t looking forward to it. In the past, the quality wasn’t impressive. Tonight turned out great, and I have to give them some real kudos. We started with some wine. They have a great wine list. We started with a Napa Silver Oak. It was awesome. We had the smoked salmon spread appetizer. Highly recommend it. Fresh with great flavor. Perfect for three or four to split before dinner. For dinner we tried the scallops, crab cakes and a Caesar salad. Everything tasted great. All in all a great evening. We’ll be back.

Have been here a few dozen times and very rarely have ever had a sub par experience. From the appetizers, to the entrees, to the best dessert anywhere in town, you will find all at J. Alexanders. To start off you can’t go wrong with the grilled artichokes, spinach artichoke dip, or the calamari. All are prepared exquisitely. For the main course you can’t go wrong with a grilled chicken Caesar salad. Chicken is mesquite and grilled to absolute perfection. The filet kabobs are also prepared nicely with a sweet sort of teriyaki glaze, served over rice! And their turkey burger is also can’t miss. You also cannot go wrong with any steak on the menu! For dessert, the best dessert anywhere is their carrot cake! A nice healthy portion, and it’s served warm with a cream cheese sauce! Heaven!!! Key lime pie is also a favorite of mine. Service is extraordinary!

Meh. Long wait times. Pricey burgers. The fries are matchstick, offering little flavor. It’s one of the few options in the area, which helps explain the draw. But, in coming here several times, I can’t recommend J Alexander’s as your first choice for lunch. Look a little harder and you’ll see that Blackies, just down the street, while not having the nice décor of J Alexander’s, has a much better burger, fries and service.

Alexanders is basically a steakhouse chain. That sums up the entirety of anything interesting or non-generic about them in a nutshell, sadly. Going to a lone star or any other place will give you a nearly identical style of menu, seasoning, and food options. It’s just blah. Is that to say that it’s terrible food? Nah, the fish I had was pretty good and well prepared, but nothing about it was unique or better than every other steakhouse. Overall the food was about as good as you’d expect for a not-famous hotel restaurant — average. Blandness gets –1 star, the other one is for noise/location/ambiance. This Alexanders is primarily used for business meetings due to the location being very strategic for tons and tons of businesses. So it’s constantly busy, to the point that there is a significant delay in trying to get a table and enough noise to not be able to hold a conversation and/or hear your server as they are telling you what the specials are for the day. It’s enough that it turned my experience from«Eh» to «No thanks».

I was sooooo ready for the Alex Salad, a Chicago rib-eye and a good glass of wine, but after only being served water then waiting almost 10 minutes for my server to come take my order, I got up and left. Unacceptable, especially when they were not busy. Before leaving, the hostess did apologize for the lack of service and asked me to stay, but I was irritated at that point, so I left.

I would definitely say this place is 3.5 stars. Most of the time it’s packed so I knew to come fairly early. However, the place filled up within 15 minutes and man was it noisy. Our server was very friendly and, despite the hectic environment, he did quite well. I ordered the special white fish with a side of couscous! Wow, it was not only a healthy choice, but also delicious! My guests ordered the turkey burger and rotisserie chicken. I’ve tried the turkey burger in the past and absolutely loved it! Juicy and the fries were thin and a perfect side. I definitely would come back, but the constant crowd would be my hold back.

Went to this place on a Saturday with my lady who is a much bigger fan of the layout of their place in Oakbrook. I was a first-timer so I thought the place was pretty nice overall with a clean if not exciting feel to it. The decorum is cool for a simple restaurant but notably better than say your Applebee’s or Chili’s. I’d venture to say a tad upscale is a fair assessment. We waited about 20 mins to be seated which is to be expected on a Sat night and once seated the service was very attentive. They use a team approach to serving so we never had to ask for anything. If a drink needed filling or a finished plate needed clearing a passing waiter/waitress was quick to address it without being asked. I ordered a medium-cooked 14 oz. ribeye with mac and cheese(pictures uploaded to Unilocal) to sub for the mashed taters that comes with. The steak was cooked superbly, very juicy and flavorful. It also had a great composition of marbling, with not too much nor too little fat. This place also does medium correctly, not too bloody and not too done. The baked mac and cheese used small shell pasta and featured a nice crust to the top and contained a mixture of what I would gather were at least 3 different cheeses that ranged from almost sweet to slightly sharp. It was very tasty, in fact, I did sop up the last bits of cheese residue from the sides with my steak just to enjoy every drop — don’t judge me. haha. The best part of the meal was the dessert — carrot cake. I love carrot cake and this place has a flavor all it’s own. The cake was warm, super moist with fresh bits of carrot and raisin topped with a richly sweet layer of icing. The good-sized portion was enough to share and that’s good cause my honey ate more of it than I did! It was decadent, soothing to my tastebuds and absolutely sinful after such a heavy meal. I left that place full, satisfied and ready for a nap.
