Been coming here for 25 years, as it was always my «go-to» destination for a birthday dinner as a kid. Now, as an adult, it’s my «go-to» anytime I want a nice night out. Order the filet… a little pricy but worth every penny. The soup, salad and rice are amazing. Service is usually good, but believe it or not the last time I was there we had a very young man as our server, and while he thought he was funny and engaging… he wasn’t(i.e. making racial jokes about Asian people? They were g-rated and fairly harmless jokes, but still, in very poor taste and very unprofessional). It was a busy night with a VERY large(and fairly ostentatious) birthday party in the lounge area. As such, the service lacked a bit as we were constantly waiting for drink refills, and it took over 10 minutes for him to return with our change. I understood that it was a busy night, so I wasn’t so much bothered by that, but like I said… his jokes were in poor taste and I truly didn’t care for the banter. The food is always spectacular, and usually the service is very good(with this one exception).

This hibachi restaurant is great! Love love the new renovated look, much brighter and nicer than before! Love the hibachi with shrimp, the salad with ginger dressing is awesome! Soup is good! However, this place is on the pricey side, pretty expensive!

I had a chance to go visit this place, I heard great things about this place, the food was ok nothing so special, we got a nice waiter who claims that he always works in hibachi, and that is why he had no clue about raw and cooked sushi, he kept asking the cook, the sushi cook himself made a few mistakes, I steel think that they have good food, nice location, they also had a live singer who was pretty good, their general manager was so welcoming, he offered us free drinks, I will give them another shot next time.

I’ve been to Oki’s many times. I absolutely love the atmosphere the new décor brings and the service is always great. I went there tonight and my only complaint was hearing the table of obnoxious woman complain the entire night out. I however thought the service was superb and the good was delicious as always. I’ll be back in again soon! The owner Vinny was very personable and I liked how he checked in on tables from time to time. Great place.

All I have to say is «wow!» Haven’t been here in almost twenty years. It was the first hibachi place I remember ever visiting. I had heard they had redone the whole place and my friend and I were excited to go down memory lane. As soon as we walked in we were blown away. This place use to be dark and dungeon like, now it’s clean and very modern. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. My friend and I both ordered the filet for the hibachi and everything was cooked perfectly. I believe our hibachi cook’s name was bae… He was entertaining and talked us up, which you don’t always get at a place like this. We both had remembered the prices actually being higher than they currently were so the price is comparable to similar restaurants. We both left full and happy. Can’t wait to go back!

This will be the last time a go to this steak house. I’ve been to this steak house before and have had no problems. This particular instance I took my mother there as a gift. After being seated another«couple» was seated at our table. The boyfriend in this couple was an off duty employee that was poorly dressed and talking loudly on his cell phone. This promptly caused an older couple seated at the table to leave. we placed our orders. Once the chef arrived he immediately began talking to his co worker and ignoring us. The part that pisses me off is when he finished cooking all of our meals He gave some of my mother order the scallops to his co worker friend! I Immediately got up from the table and asked to speak to the manager. I explained the situation, the service horrible and to top it off the dinner that I was paying for was given to his friend. The manager before I had even finished explaining told me I had to be mistaken. When I walked him over to the table there were the scallops on the coworkers plate. I asked for my order to be packaged because I wanted to leave. I didn’t like the way the manager handled himself. The steak house was filthy and the service was horrible. I will NEVER go back there. There are better locations and steak houses to go to.

I went there for the Halloween party tonight and the waitress Kelly over charged me for 4 drinks k did not had and when I asked she got into a nasty street attitude. then someone at the bar told me that What She Used To Do At South Street Bar. So Sad BECAUSE the owner is such a nice person. and having a person. like Kelly in the bar is going to chase away customers … Kelly is such a pest and she is well known as a such All over providence and today I learned why …

Just awful. The prices are outrageous for hibachi. $ 23 for shrimp? I’ve had much better at different places for almost half the price. And you don’t even get fried rice. You have to pay $ 5 extra for the rice, they give you white rice for free. I will never go back. No matter how good the renovations are it doesn’t matter when it comes to cost.

My fiancé and I went to Oki since we just moved and it was local. Our usual go to spot for hibachi is shogun in Warwick. We went on Wednesday which was ladies night(half off for women). First off, the atmosphere was great, it was very updated. The cook was very entertaining, a lot of newer stuff I haven’t seen. As far as the food goes, it was a bit pricey, I was expecting it to be pricey since it was hibachi. But you don’t get much food for the price. If I hadn’t ordered an order of sushi or fried rice, I would’ve still been pretty hungry. The quality of the food and the ginger sauce was good. They didn’t have the garlic noodles my fiancé and I love at shogun. If you want more bang for your buck, I would suggest going to shogun, you will be stuffed and have left overs for the next day to fill you up.

Deeeeeellliiishishness! Jerry was our waiter and he was super attentive, had great personality and if he didnt know something he was honest about that and went and asked the chef, which i really appreciate, some servers bs or tell you the wrong answer and you just have to bare with it when you get the food or send it back. Everything was amazing! It really hit the spot. I highly recomend the ultimate veggie roll!!! Yuuum! My hubs got a sushi plate dinner and i got hibachi. He loved his, said it was all really fresh(and hes super picky about that!) and i really enjoyed my hibachi dinner. The soup and salad was bomb. I wish I would have gotten the filet instead of sirloin. I wasnt crazy about the sirloin but i ate it anyway and i got the combo so i really enjoyed the chicken. The hibachi chef was very talented and entertaining. The décor was beautiful! I didnt like the green tea ive cream but Jerry took it off the check with i appreciate. Not much of a dessert selection. Overall awesome experience!

The original, Oki is credited for bringing Hibachi to RI how ever many years ago, and still is the best. Hibachi filet is great, seaweed salad awesome, the renovations they did recently have added huge value and gave they place a much better décor. The owner, Oki, is always there and makes us feel like family every time we go.

Pardon the bad pun, but Oki was ok. Here’s what I liked and what I didn’t: The Good: –No wait on a Saturday night around 8:00 –Décor was clean and seemed updated –Waiter was very attentive and thorough –Price for hibachi was really good for everything you got(soup, salad, a few shrimp appetizer and hibachi) The Not So Good: –Food quality. Chicken was dry and wasn’t properly butchered. None of the veggies were very seasoned. –No fried rice! You’re served a side of white rice and that’s it. You can purchase fried rice for an extra charge. –Showmanship. The hibachi chef tried to make a few of the standard jokes and tricks, but it was really lackluster and there was no sake-in-the-mouth shenanigans which I’ve come to quite appreciate at other hibachi places. Didn’t try the sushi or the drinks, so I can’t comment there, but otherwise it was a 3.5 star experience. Not the worst, not the best.

Came here on a Saturday with a group of friends and was honestly disapointed. I have heard good things about this place and being around for so long I figured it had to be good. Waited forever to place order and to get check. Also Way overpriced; been to other Hibaci places that were not nearly as expensive and a lot better. Not only did they not have scorpion bowls but after asking for saki multiple times there was no saki. Food was good but I have better before. Just overall disapointed in this place and won’t be going back.

I usually don’t go out for sushi but went with friends, who are always ranting about how great it is. So in we go, deciding to sit at the sushi bar booths, great view of providence skyline, and a 40 inch tv. We ordered spicy chicken and sushi for starters. Everything was perfect, the pink sauce they make there is one of Rhode islands greatest secrets, fellow okinairians will defiantly agree. the two gentleman rolling sushi have 60+ years experience combined, and it showed. We got a red Sox roll, a samurai roll and an eel and avocado roll, again on a recommendation, as I dislike eel. It was delicious, I can’t believe that there is a eel roll out there I like! Go people ! Go to Okis and taste that Japanese paradise! ;)

A friend had told us Oki’s had not only re-opened but had been renovated so of course we had to make a reservation at our old favorite hibachi spot. We will never go back now. The soup the hibachi dinner comes with is a joke. Flavorless broth with one mushroom slice isn’t going to cut it. It’s ok the meal will be cooked soon right? Until the hibachi chef burned his hand. Not to sound like a total jerk but I thought these guys were pros. Accidents aside, they had to switch out chefs which took a long and uncomfortable 10 mins. as we watched our chicken dry out on the grill all unattended. New chef was slow and the rest of the meal was unbearable. So it happens to be my husbands birthday and he is loud upset to the waitress about the horrible experience. She says she will ‘see what Mr. Oki can do’ which ended up being to not charge us for one of the hibachi dinners. But not once did the owner come to our table himself to apologize but just lurked in the shadows behind us making sure we didn’t cause another scene. There are better hibachi spots on the other side of Providence.

After reopening, this place is bomb! The décor is updated and fabulous… everything is new. Servers are all always kind and prompt. I’m picky about my food and the cooks are always more than happy to oblige my «well done chicken, sans mushrooms… oh and give my shrimp to my husband» type remarks! They have plum wine.(This alone deserves 5 stars… it’s a rare find.) We bring our daughter and the cooks do special little jokes for her. Very cute. Oki is always there and gets right into the thick of things and helps out. It’s awesome to see an owner taking such responsibility for how things are run in his restaurant. He takes a lot of pride in his work and it shows. LOVEOKIS! It’s hands down the best hibachi in Rhode Island.

Okay, so I should start by saying that I have never written a Unilocal review before. I actually made a Unilocal account so I could review Oki’s Steak House. But this has been a night of firsts — so why not? My friend and I go out to Hibachi at least once a week and have for a little over a year. We have four different local ‘favorites’ but had heard good things and were feeling adventurous, so we went to Oki’s. The restaurant itself was gorgeous. Great views, clean, etc, very romantic setting and obviously a place you’d go to impress a date. When we entered, it was 15 minutes after they’d opened for the night and we were the first patrons of the day, it seemed. We asked to be seated at a booth, because as there were only two of us it seemed rude to have a chef put on a huge show for the two of us. Our waitress, McKayla was wonderful — and I hope(as I later told her) she finds a job where she’ll be treated better. Let me stop here and say that this place has steak in it’s name, and the dinner menu only had two items with steak incorporated in the meal, and overall, I found the menu extremely lacking. My friend ordered Sushi as a starter and we both ordered a chicken hibachi dinner at $ 19.00 a plate, which for this area is a bit steep for this area. First part of our meal, the mushroom soup comes out and there are no issues. My friend gets her sushi order and enjoys it. Here comes my first ‘first’ of the night — Out comes our salad, which, after biting into mine I did not touch again. Remember that I eat Hibachi regularly and am used to the orange ginger dressing that is placed on it. I recoiled at the taste of this dressing and did not eat it. Whether it was the recipe or the dressing was bad I do not know. But it was the first time I didn’t finish a salad at a hibachi dinner. Finally, our Hibachi dinners come out. and it is not hibachi. Thats the only way I can say it. We were given plain white, unfried rice with nothing mixed into it. No egg, no onion, no sauces. Just cooked white rice. We’re given about 4 ounces of extremely dry chicken and a mix of typical hibachi vegetables. All items lack hibachi seasoning, the vegetables are undercooked and the chicken is rubbery. My friend and I both try to power through it, but are unable to eat more then two or three bites before deciding that no, this really is as gross as we think and no, it isn’t acceptable. We tell our waitress when she returns and she apologizes and offers to adjust the bill, saying that she serves hibachi to booths all the time. That’s my second first of the night — I’ve never sent back an uneaten meal at a restaurant. Finally, the manager approaches and asks what’s wrong. When we tell him, he tells us that it’s our fault for not sitting at the grill. If we wanted ‘real hibachi’ we shouldn’t have sat at a booth. They only have a ‘frying pan’ in the back and can’t cook it correctly in the kitchen. So why didn’t we sit at the grill? He says our waitress(!!) should have told us we wouldn’t get ‘real hibachi’ at a booth. I firmly explained that first of all, I get ‘real’ hibachi at booths and tables at restaurants all over the state, but that secondly, I didn’t appreciate him blaming the badly cooked meal on a waitress who only delivers it. He once again explained that it was the waitresses fault(and ours) for not making us sit at the grill. You can’t get real hibachi at a booth. But he’ll take some of the meal off the bill anyway. He didn’t offer us anything else on the menu and didn’t try to make us feel welcomed back. Our waitress returns and explains that the manager/owner only took one hibachi dinner off the meal. I had said previously that we would pay for our drinks, my friends sushi, and two orders each of a side soup and salad(even though neither my friend or I ate our salads). My friend demanded that the manager return, because she didn’t want to pay for something completely inedible. In the end, the manager refused to return, but did take both dinners off the bill. We tipped our poor waitress for what the full bill would have been. In the end, would not return. At all. Ever. And if you go and want hibachi — go to the grill I guess?

The old veteran is the champion again! Oki’s was one of the first Japanese steakhouses in the area and was the première Hibachi and Sushi place in RI for a long time but the last few years the quality and experience declined until the doors eventually closed for what we thought was for good. I picture during this time. Mr. Oki prepped for the return in some sort of 80’s montage which led up to the reopening. Oki’s is still in its same location but they completely renovated the interior to give it a beautiful modern look. The sushi and hibachi were fantastic. It was back to its original deliciousness, I remembered from years ago. They have the same great sushi, hibachi offerings, and wonderful ginger dressing, and sauces. I look forward to coming back again soon. Oki’s was my first foray into Japanese cuisine back in the day and I am glad that it is back to its old self! I highly encourage you to go if you are in the hibachi or sushi mood!

We’ve been here twice since the re-opening and both times had such a great dining experience. Love the new look, the new windows, and the clean, clean clean dining area. Sushi was really good. Service has totally stepped up their game. Being an old waiter myself, I was downright impressed how John kept his cool after being hen-pecked by this Super-King-Kameha-Meyha-Biatch sitting at our hibatchi table. Seriously, I was clutching my chopsticks and biting my lip and I swear, if she sent one more thing back, those chopsticks would have made their home in her skull. But I digress. The new designer cocktails are really goooood. The hibatchi was perfect, as always. The sauces cannot be beat.

I was so pleased when this place reopened and my first visit back was not disappointing in the least. The servers are friendly, they have amazing fresh sushi and very reasonably priced. I wouldn’t recommend getting habachi in the hot summer months, a few in my party did and I was dying of the heat… stick to the sushi bar for a while in the hot summer months. They also had the Narragansett dels on draft which was not only refreshing but a dream come true! Get here soon Oki is back on the block and I’m sure in due time reservations will be required!
