The Good The Bad The Ugly — Good: WiFI was excellent in my room — They got me a brand new Fridge the 1st day because the old one was leaking water inside The Bad: No AC and it was 102 outside — Would not refund any money if I wanted to leave early on a weekly rate — 102 rooms and only about 30 parking spaces — A 10 dollar CRTTV with no cable — lousy bed — crummy shower — not one chair to sit on in the entire room — if you question why the answers are either they all get stolen or the rooms are rented as is end of story The Ugly: Hall ways smell worse then a jail with poor circulation — sickly looking people live and work there — It’s more like a poor house for people off skid row then an actual hotel — There’s a ton of erroneous home made rental agreement crap you have to fill out — It took so long to rent the room I actually caught a cold just from standing in the same lobby with all these ghouls Their CL ads are very deceitful ! You’ll see a picture of an attractive women near a pool — The header reads in bold type GREATDEAL ! — clean and comfortable furnished rooms — Its all BS its all Hype ! NEVERAGAIN !!!

Quite simply, this place is a better alternative to being homeless. If you are in a bad situation and are in desperate need of place to stay for a week or two, this place will suffice. But don’t expect anything more than a roof over your head and an uncomfortable bed to sleep on. From February to April of 2015, I stayed at the Studio Lodge Hotel simply because I was in between apartments and I need a place to stay while I found something affordable. During that time, I witnessed LA Police come to the building three times to arrest tenants. I met a lot of very nice residents while I was there, but that fact alone should tell you what kind of people this place attracts. Moreover, the facilities there were barely adequate. Not once in the 7 weeks that I was there was ever able to get hot water in the shower. Despite numerous complaints to management, I never once took a shower there that I could describe as warm or comfortable(usually my showers last about 60 seconds). While I never saw any evidence of rodents, it would not surprise me in the least… the place was crawling with cockroaches, however. Also, this place only accepts cash(no debit cards, no credit cards, no checks… so find an ATM before you go… and you must have EXACTCHANGE… The«rent» the charged me was $ 269/week… If you go in with a bunch of $ 20 bills and give them $ 280, you will have to wait 24 – 48 hours to get your change). Also, even though advertise free WIFI and go to the trouble of giving you a WIFI password, the WIFI is only accessible in the common kitchen room(which closes at 11pm). As a result, I racked up a ton of overage charges on my wireless bill for using up too much data. And its not like my room was in some far flung corner of the building or I was using a crappy computer. My room was across the hall from the front desk(room 109) and I was using a very good MacBook Pro and iPhone 5. I should have had no problem accessing their WIFI network. BUT… My single biggest complaint with the Studio Lodge, however, is the predatory and ILLEGAL housing practices of the management. While they advertise themselves as an apartment building on Craigslist(how I found the place) and charge the residents weekly or monthly«rent»(and run a background check and ask for references/contact info for your previous landlords) the place operates as a «transient hotel.» Meaning they employ the practice know as the«28 day shuffle.» No one is allowed to stay at the building for more than 28 consecutive days. The reason for this is that if someone resides in a room for more than 30 consecutive days than they are granted the rights of tenant. After three weeks of living there, they informed me that I would have to move out for a night and check back in… otherwise if I stayed a full 28 days, I would have to vacate the room and would not be allowed to check back in for another full 28 days. Now for me, as a young single, male, this was an inconvenience, but not a huge deal… I simply slept in my car for a night and spent a couple of hours at Denny’s by the Burbank Airport and then checked back into a room at noon the next day. But I saw them kicking out families with little kids, sending them out onto the street… essentially taking good, rent paying tenants and turning them into homeless families. I moved into a great new apartment a few weeks ago and am in a good living situation now. But I seriously hope that someone goes after the predatory practices of this management that is sending good people and little kids out into the street. Again, if you are in a desperate situation, this place is a good alternative to being homeless, but if you stay long enough, the management of the building will turn you into exactly that. To learn more about the«28 Day Shuffle» check out the following links: ftp://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/03−04/bill/asm/ab2851−2900/ab_2867_cfa_20040623_123015_sen_comm.html I do not have the time, effort, or money to go after these people, but I hope that someone eventually does. I would be glad to tell my story if it helps.

I just now stop by with more than enough cash for two weeks and the guy told me there was rooms available but they will not accept me because the guy accused me that I must had stole the money because my clothes looked a little messy. I told him I got paid and he cracked a joke that there is no way I have a job.

Place is a dump. The residents are mostly unemployed, on disability, some on social security. Communal kitchen, many times there is a line to cook and you either have to eat early or late. Kitchen closes at 11PM so you cant eat too late. The building has lots of roaches, bed bugs, and mice. Caught a baby possum in my room one time. The place is really run down and when you try to get repairs done they do them half assed. They recently dumped their really bad maintenance people but not soon enough. OK for a short stay but not good for families. There were hookers and drug dealers living there but the manager said they could not do anything about it. Cops routinely haul away parolees who violate their parole terms. While I was there 3 people died, suicide, OD, and other causes. Good only if you are desperate. Noisy neighborhood. Creepy guys paying too much attention to the kids and teens that live there. Loud music when you are trying to sleep. Lots of people yelling. Building is not insulated so it is very hot in the summer. Did I say the place is infested with BEDBUGS? The photos show a room with an A/C unit. This is either the Managers room or an employees room. They are the ONLY ones that can have A/C. I was told I can not use my portable A/C unit because the buildings wiring wouldn’t handle the load.
