Winking Lizard Tavern

We’ve gone to this WL many times. The burgers are great. This time, we stopped in on new years eve as we were beginning an evening out which we would go to about 4 – 5 places until after midnight and the new year… something we do almost every NYE. But… it started off rather poorly as my ribs (tonight’s special) were cold. And, though bartender #2 realized my reaction, inquired and alerted the manager, who removed my meal from the bill, that was not mainly the problem.
The real problem was that bartender #1 participated in a lengthy conversation with a friend of hers sitting at the bar next to me. First, I felt like anything we might say amongst ourselves would be an intrusion on her rather intense discussion. But, it was the content of the conversation, her ex, that was the most distracting. Aren’t bartenders supposed to listen to the troubles of the patrons rather than the other way around? By the time we left, we were so depressed we decided to just come home. She really ruined the whole New Year’s evening for us.
So, though we really like the WL, we will not be going back for a while… and we certainly won’t sit at the bar any more, for sure. byw — I felt so bad for her, I ended up giving a 100% tip, since we didn’t pay for my cold ribs. Not sure if they share tips or not… but, whatever.

Unfortunately we stopped in to have dinner a few nights ago it wasn’t overly busy we were seated (group of 4) in about 5 minutes. We waited 12 minutes (I know bc I got a text right as we were being seated) for our waitress to come over. Oh and when she did it was to tell us, I’ll be over in just one minute. I was ready to just leave (sorry I was a server for a number of years this is totally unacceptable) my husband was starving and since there are really not many other options in the Washington square area we decided to stay. It took an hour for our food to come out. Never ever ever will I come back… Please keep in mind one meal was a grilled cheese for my 3 year old… and we saw our waitress about 3 times within the hour… again totally unacceptable! We won’t be coming back!

When you’re in the mood for watching the game and having a Bud (true, true) you should head on over to the Winking Lizard Tavern! Great variety of your American bar foods (my favorite is their pizza, and they have awesome salads, too!) and a clean, fun atmosphere with more TV’s than you can shake a stick at! Right across from Walsh University, in the same plaza as Giant Eagle– the location is perfect and the wait staff is super knowledgeable about their brews. Five stars from this fan!

Me and my fiancé have been coming here almost every Sunday for over a year now for a few beers and food and we love it! For starters the staff is AMAZING, very sweet and laid back. We signed up for the beer tour so we are always trying new beers. This is our go to place!

Currently obsessed with the seasonal crispy Thai peanut chicken salad. So good! Service here is friendly and fast.

Decent food. A ton of HD tvs. Good selection of beer. More at the beginning of each month. Bar service is much better than dining service.

It’s fairly cozy inside but it has a cool neighborhood bar feel. Add that to the quality, consistent food, great drinks and good service and I would highly recommend this place.

I’ve dined in here for lunch and the food has been what I expected based on my experience at their other locations.
That being said, they have yet to get a take-​out order for me or my co-​workers correct. Items are either missing or not made to order and when confronted they’ll apologize and then blame it on someone who isn’t there.
My advice, either dine-​in for lunch or don’t bother.

We would like to give you a review on the food, but as we sat at the inside bar, which was not busy at the time, we were unsuccessful in being able to order anything past our drinks It’s frustrating when you can see at least six of their employees standng by the drink machines and not willing to step in and assist the bar area. She finally came to get our order, once she washed all the gllasses that were back there, and by that time we had enough of being passed by that we got our tab for the drinks and went elsewhere.

We like to sit at the patio. Was there last week in the evening & had a great server. He was very knowledgeable about the beer selections and was very personable. Their spinach artichoke dip is fantastic! Food is usually good & they have a large menu to choose from. Usually go there a few times a month.

Stopped by on a late Sunday afternoon after an event. Restaurant was about half full. We sat on the patio. Service was much better. Partner got a wrap which she enjoyed and I ordered a side salad with a grilled chicken breast. They were happy to accommodate my sort of ordering off the menu. We didn’t drink alcohol but I did ask about the Long Island ice teas. They are still using a mix. Ugh! This is a full bar guys. Get it together and you might get 5 stars. Third time was not the charm, but I’ll be back.

Full disclosure, I did not eat here. Nor will I ever eat here, considering I drove by the outdoor seating area and the employee was sweeping off table tops with a broom to clean them!!! If that kind of nastiness is acceptable right out in the open, I hate to think what happens back in the kitchen where the public can’t see. No thanks.

Place is finally starting to get its act together. I noticed a turnover in wait staff and better management in general. Improving but not there yet.

Always crowded. Always good food, although their wings are never very crispy. Not my favorite wings although their sauces are excellent. Try the grilled cheese that has multiple types of cheese. Small pub atmosphere so don’t expect a lot of room but outdoor space and bar makes up for it in the summer. Great beer selection!

Customer service is poor and the space is crammed. The place is mostly filled out the door and it’s hard to get a seat. If the staff has time they might talk to you. The free popcorn is nice while waiting.

good food, but cramped. super cramped. there is no room for anything in this place. tables are super small and very close together. wings are good, they had some fat tuesday/​mardi gras specials on the menu and my wife got one that was really good (pasta, shrimp, chicken and sausage). the service was good and the beer selection is crazy. personally i won’t be going back because they have some kind of LED lighting system that has a subtle flicker to it that caused a weird strobe light kind of effect. my wife didn’t notice much about it but drove me nuts.

Not a bad place. Was a little difficult to find as we happened to come in from behind the restaurant and unfortunately they only have a sign on the front. So, we ended up in a parking lot that didn’t connect and have to drive around more than necessary.
Overall very friendly and attentive staff. They quickly greeted us and had a table (with high chair) within minutes (we were there 330/​4ish on a Saturday.) They promptly took our drink order and allowed us to review the menu, which was smaller than some of the other Lizard locations, but still had a lot of options. Everything actually was smaller, the dining area, bar and beer selection. But even though the bottle list was small, there was a large draft list.
Drinks eventually came out, but they took a little longer than you’d think they should (two drafts.) Our meals came out and were actually pretty good. The smaller location outshines some of the larger spots in regards to food. I had a simple grilled cheese, but it wasn’t burnt (or raw.) My wife got the veggie wrap and they made sure it didn’t have mushrooms (as she requested.)
For those parents with diaper changing kids, the women’s restroom did have a changing table!
All and all, not bad, friendly staff, okay bar food and obviously some great beer. I’d go back.

Great beer selection! Awesome draft choices too. I like the seasonal menus and you can never go wrong with wings. Service was great, our waiter took good care of us and kept us laughing.
