Bark of the Town

I have two beloved Golden Retrievers. They have gone to several groomers over the years and Bark of the Town is by far the best! My girl is 11 years old and requires lots of TLC… she has severe allergies and frequently has sore spots on her paws from biting. I feel SO CONFIDENT that Patty and her team take care of Lily. My boy is a big, excitable baby and Patty and crew are so patient and good-​humored with his antics! And they are BEAUTIFULLY groomed to my specifications EVERY TIME! I CANNOT recommend Bark of the Town highly enough!

I used to bring my dog to bark of the town and every time I brought him he was shaved down to the skin. They claimed he was matted. First time I accepted that explanation and made sure that the next time he was brought in he wouldn’t be matted due to freaquent brushings. Well low and behold the next time I brought him in he was scalped again. I feel like that’s the only type of haircut they can do and quickest way to get them in and out. Also from reading other reviews «bad behavior charge» REALLY PATTY??? I will never recommend ANYONE to your business.

I brought my dog there several times before there was a major issue. However, all of those OK times my dog came back looking different from what I has asked for. Last time I brought him he was there for EIGHT HOURS instead of the usual four. In other words, he spent 5+ hours in a crate. I did not pay $ 50 for my dog to be in a crate. This morning I brought him back (after months of staying away) and he hid behind me and didn’t want to go in at first. He calmed down and went in fine. When I brought him home (with an ugly haircut) I noticed that he had an inch-​long bleeding cut on his neck. My dog is white (and very small), so there is no way they missed it. They just neglected to tell me. They also charged me more without asking because he took «longer to cut» today. NEVER going back.

We had been taking our dogs to Bark of the Town since this was a one woman shop. During our last visit, the groomer shaved the tail of our dog because she said it was matted. There was no call or postponement. When I complained the groomer said it was my fault. The owner seemed indifferent to the complaint of a long time customer. It will take months for my dog to look normal again.

I took my puppy to Bark of the Town and I’ll never go back. When we arrived, we were greeted brusquely and there was little or no discussion of what I wanted. My puppy was hauled to the back by his leash. Since this is my first dog, and it was his first grooming, I had no idea what to expect. When I picked him up he was shaved to the skin, scared out if his mind, and I got a firm lecture about bringing him in sooner. He looked so awful, my daughter and I weren’t 100% sure it was the same dog! I’ve since taken him to the N. Andover Petco where we had a detailed conversation about what was needed, he was lured to the back with treats, and emerged a happy and beautiful dog. Petco did note that he had substantial buildup of hair and debris in his ears that had likely not been addressed in his Bark of the Town visit. Honestly, I’d prefer to give a 1-​star rating based on my dog’s trauma, but they did wash and cut him, so two stars is a probably a fair rating.

When I booked the appt. they said it would be two hours it took 5 hours. His cut was uneven and he was stressed. He was in a small room with a lot of dogs for 5 hours with no water. He was not let out in that time either. Later that night At 1am and 3 am he had diarrhea and blood in is stool the next morning. The only good thing is he smells good. No doubt this is a tough business but I should have been told up front how long it was going to take and that they were not going to give him water the entire time. I would have given him water before i dropped him off.
