I’ve been going to Sue for about 6 months now. One of the things I look for in a stylist is someone who remembers my cut Everytime. I hate explaining how I want my haircut. All I do is simply arrive, tell her what I want, and the rest is taken care of. In the past I used to go to those fancy salons and pay a ridiculous $ 70+ for haircuts, but not anymore. If you’re looking for one of the best stylist in Des Plaines or North Chicago, I highly recommend Sue!

Victoria, it looks like you only attack/criticize clients who give your business bad review which is probably well deserved. Why don’t you appreciate your five-star reviews, why don’t you thank people who help you put food on your table. And yet you throw recommendations at me to be more optimistic rather then pessimistic. If there was anything positive about my experience at your place is that at least my daughter is pleased with a haircut. Plus based on your replies to clients on your page such us: « Unilocal — you need to do a better job to ignore persons, who just write bad reviews» I conclude that you’re pretty ignorant person yourself.

This review is for Anna. 5 stars all day, every day! I received another men’s haircut from Anna, and I can say again that it was the best haircut I’ve ever had! I will always choose Anna as my hair stylist. She knows exactly how a perfect hair cut should be for men and women, and it definitely shows in her work! Everyone always compliments me on how sharp my haircut is after Anna styles it. The prices are fantastic at Magic Scissors and it’s located in a very convenient plaza. Every Time I need a cut, it’s always going to be with Anna. Highly recommended!

I was in Chicago on a getaway trip 2 years ago and used Unilocal to find Agatha. OMG the best haircut I have ever had. If I lived there, she would be the only person touching my head besides my wife! Yes 2 years ago and I’m writing about a haircut… Outside standing on a sheet of glass 140 stories up, it was one of the highlights of the trip.

Based on raving reviews from one HS Asian friend and Unilocal,I sought out the the Korean hair stylist, Agatha and convinced my cousin to also schedule a haircut appointment right after mine. I waited a long time to grow out my short hair to shoulder length hair so I could get a cute Korean star haircut with bangs. I showed her the picture of the haircut that I wanted and she said my forehead is too low for bangs and told me she will give me a good cut. After almost 2 hours of snipping and slicing my hair with a blade/razor, she ended up giving me with a mullet style with many frizzy layers. She proceeded to flat-iron my hair straight and apply styling product. She said I need to flat iron my hair every day because my hair is wavy and thick. I was too scared to give my honest feedback because she seemed like a very persistent lady and will not accept criticism. My cousin was horrified by my hair, but didn’t want to say so to preserve my feelings. Instead she cancelled her appointment. Agatha is outdated and slow and I made a mistake of wasting gas to drive from city to the burbs for a bad cut. From what I’ve experienced and seen, you can get drastically better haircuts for Asian hair at H Mart and in the city for the same price or less.

This review is for Agatha — I usually get my hair cut at the salon inside H Mart and although I’ve had positive experiences there, for some reason I felt I deserved more than a grocery store hair cut. After conducting extensive internet research, I felt that Agatha would be the person to WOW me and sculpt my hair into something fabulous. I came here in February and presented Agatha with a picture of the cut I wanted(Nicole Richie’s blunt bob — ). Agatha immediately told me a variety of reasons why that cut was not meant to be mine that month: it’s February, it’s too old for me… She told me I should leave it up to her and she will create something for me. Well it took her 1.5 hours to cut my hair into the typical layered Asian cut that I somehow always end up getting. She told me to come back in a few months when it was warmer and she will give me a shorter hair cut. I said OK to be polite while thinking, «I will never be back!!». After my cut, I talked to a couple friends who had been to Agatha and they had similar experiences — Agatha ruined their hair and/or did not listen to what they want. I should have started my research with them and not these internet reviews! I used to have very smooth, straight hair, but ever since getting my hair cut by Agatha, my hair texture has been very odd and I started to have short hairs sticking up all around my head — kind of like baby hairs or broken hairs that are very short. It took a long time for my cut to grow out, and when it was time for another hair cut, you can be sure that I went back to H Mart for it. Update: Magic Scissors owner has commented that Agatha is not their employee… But Agatha rents a booth at their salon. My review is clearly labeled for Agatha, so if someone is looking for other Magic Scissors stylists they can easily discount my review. It is not surprising that the owner has no issues with people who leave 5 star reviews for Agatha on their page.

** This is a review for Agatha Park who rents a chair there. ** I have thick Asian hair so it’s hit or miss for me most of the time. Agatha totally understands asian hair and has been cutting my hair for more than a year now. For the most part I don’t even have to tell her what needs done, she just knows. Even though it’s a bit of a drive for me to get there I don’t mind because she always gives me a great haircut. She’s super nice and very talented.

This was the worst haircut I’ve ever gotten in my life. I went because of the good reviews, but I think these are for specific stylists. Whatever you do, do not go in as a walk-in unless you have a specific stylist in mind. A men’s haircut was $ 16. My particular stylist did not offer me a shampoo or some gel or styling after the cut. She left me waiting while she finished a smoke break. The whole cut lasted 5 minutes, and she did not even take time to even it out. I have to pay to get it fixed elsewhere because I have hairs sticking up at the back of my head like Alfalfa from The Little Rascals. Edit: The owner has said that I only write bad reviews, which is clearly not true(check my profile if you’d like). I had a bad experience, and she didn’t try to make it right even after acknowledging that she had problems with the stylist I saw in the past.

I had a Groupon with this place. After some scheduling conflict I finally was able to make it up here for a visit for a full-body massage for two. I only wish the room was bigger but Tanya the masseuse was great. We didn’t have a wait and wouldn’t mind coming back to see her again in the future!

Marina has been doing my hair at this salon for over five years now. Couldn’t be more happy with her service. She’s always friendly, cheerful and ready to experiment. Highly-recommended!

Agatha did the hair for the entire wedding party at my best friend’s wedding in Chicago and everyone looked picture perfect. I’ve never seen such quick and dramatic transformations before my very eyes from tired half-awake girls to flawless finish movie star up-do’s! She and her daughter were a power team, and I’d recommend them to anyone. Thanks, Agatha!

Agatha is the only woman I trust to tame my extremely thick and coarse hair. She has never given me a *bad* haircut, although some cuts were better than others. I always get compliments after I get a cut from her, and I love the way my hair grows out after. The wait can be long as others have mentioned, but for me, it’s so worth it. I’ve gone to many other Unilocal-approved places and have spent an obscene amount of money to find someone as good as Agatha closer to my home, but this mission has failed time and time again. You’re the best Agatha!
Agatha does my hair for several times, she is a korean lady who rents a corner at magic scissors to serve her customers. She can always make you look amazing when you step out of her door. She also gives you her opinion when you want to try something new. She always have a few appointments at the same time, sometimes it would really make me sit at the chair for 2 hours for just hair cut, shampoo and dry. You can imagine how long it could take if you need a perm or color. I really recommend anyone to give her a try especially if you are asian ONLY if you don’t mind to wait for a big longer(since there are plenty of magazines that you can read in the salon)! If I remember right i paid $ 35 for haircut+shampoo and dry, another $ 35 for color.

I’m honestly not sure what all the hype about Agatha is. There are so many rave reviews on Unilocal about her, and it really makes me wonder. I made an appointment with her and I was waiting at the salon for 30 minutes to get my hair done. I wouldn’t have minded if it meant I would get a great haircut, but that wasn’t what I got. What I got was something equivalent to a Great Clips cut for a much heftier price tag. Granted, Agatha was really nice and quite apologetic… hence the extra star. I asked for a wash and wear type of cut with long layers. Pretty simple I thought. I got layers alright, but they definitely were cut much shorter than I asked for. The quality of the haircut wasn’t that great either because I looked like a hot mess any time I didn’t blow dry my ‘do. I basically had to wait half an hour for my appointment for a cut not at all what I asked for, and pay 6 times as much for the same quality I could have gotten at Betty and Nick’s. I say save your money and make the trip out there instead!

Thank you, thank you! Agada has finally given me hair that my mother complimented! As long as you don’t mind waiting, she is always willing to squeeze you into her day. Much to horror of those around me, I had my hair permed by Agada the first time I went to see her. Everyone, including me, loved my wavy hair after that. Now I get haircuts from her every 3 months. I didn’t think long layers was a difficult cut, but for some reason, my hair looks better than ever… and it’s easier to blow dry. Driving to Niles to get my hair cut is defnitely worth it… and as a added bonus I can stop at H mart!

A bad hair day can put you in a really ugly place– emotionally, psychologically, physically… yes. If you are like me, this usually happens when you are overdue for a trim or perhaps you have been reluctant to get that trim due to a previous BAD haircut. You know the signs. You can feel the desperation bubbling up. You know that if you don’t seek professional help immediately… you might do something harmful to yourself. Something like attempting to cut your own hair. This is never a happy ending. I was recently in that dark place. My usual stylist, Carol, was on a cruise. I knew I was in the danger zone so I reached out to my resources– Unilocal.I found Agatha and she sounded like a dream come true. I called her and set up an appointment for the following morning. I was already feeling a little better. Agatha was fabulous. She listened to what I wanted, made some helpful suggestions and gave me an incredible and very thorough hair cut and style. Not only is she a talented stylist, but she’s a very sweet. personable lady. So much so –that it felt completely natural to give her a hug good bye. You have to call her personally to make an appointment. Her number is 773−383−5154. That says it all.

I’m VERY particular about my hair and I’m used to the best hair snipping skillz there is(courtesy of my stylist Kurosawa in Tokyo.) I’ve always been hesitant to get a haircut in America because of bad experiences. It really takes some know-how to cut Asian hair. Now, since my standards are extremely high, Agatha does make the cut, but not quite. It’s good enough for a haircut in the U.S. but I’m still pining away for my Japanese stylist. I begged him to pack up and move to America, specifically Chicago, but he laughed and rejected me outright. But, Agatha is honest and she won’t give you an unflattering haircut. I did have to wait, like, half an hour for my turn, but she was really apologetic about it and spent quite a bit of time curling my hair. Oh yeah, I don’t know what people are talking about when they say it’s $ 15. It’s $ 35!

I have to confess, fellow Unilocalers. This is the first time ever, that I selfishly thought to myself, «if i told too many people about Agatha, then she’ll be too busy, and it will be harder to get on her schedule… maybe i’ll just keep quiet on this one.» But then i realized what a bastard i was being, and pulled away from the dark side. How can i turn my back on the Unilocal family? Just read all the other reviews about Agatha, a Korean stylist who rents a space at Magic Scissors in Niles. it’s all true. She is really good. I’ve been to all sorts of stylist and barbers on the west coast, east coast, Asia. Some as cheap as 5 bucks, some that are, well, much, much more expensive. Most of the time i just walk out feeling duped for spending that amount of money. Sure, i have gotten better cuts elsewhere, but Agatha is definitely one of the better ones. and at $ 15 bucks… she is worth that several times over. Before she even started cutting, she looked at my facial shape, texture of hair, direction of hair, from near and from afar. This seems like such a fundamental step, yet somehow, a process practiced by very few stylist that i have encountered. 45 min later, i walked out feeling triumphant. A few minor negatives – she is too busy. By herself, she was juggling 4 clients at once. Doesn’t make for a relaxing experience. She doens’t speak much English, so forget any conversation, unless you want to learn Korean. Magic Scissors is situated in a dumpy strip mall 30 min from chicago, frequented by what seems like that whole retirement community in Niles. Not exactly the young hip crowd that some of you may be accustomed to. And most of her clients seem to be Asians. I don’t know how she does with non-Asian hair. I almost took off a star for the above. But $ 15 bucks a GOOD cut? 5 stars!
