I love the mussels here for 12 $ only !!! It’s fresh and cooked with vegetables in a delicious creamy sauce. Although they have a great bar inside, Sit outside & enjoy the warm sun !!!

The food is great, although expensive. Other than that, it’s too cramped on weekends because of the bad set up. The music is WAY too loud. I’m in my early 20s and I’m always blasting music in my car and I love live music… but the volume in this place is absolutely unbearable! I can’t stand it. If you decide to wait 15 minutes for a bartender, you’ll find that the drinks are pretty expensive, too. If you can go on a weeknight or weekend afternoon, I recommend it for the food and atmosphere. But on a Saturday night I’d go elsewhere.

Other half ordered ahi, server asked how he wanted it cooked… wha!!! Gave me scallops however ordered salmon. Ahi was dry, salmon took to long to make I lost my appetite. Server was apologetic for the mishap. Other half says one thing for sure, Black Sheep’s food is consistently off. Kudos, 2 stars!

I have eaten at this pub a few times and you would think i would have learned. This is a over priced bar with less than average food. the service is less than ok and what makes it worries is the management and ownership doesn’t care. I have friends that go to this bar often so i have gone to hang with them a few times in this bar, that’s the only reason i would have ever return. The last time my girlfriend and myself ordered our meal and a few drinks. the server had three checks made up and have no idea what we had thus over charged. i asked to talk to a manger and found that she was my only hope. after signing the three different bills i went on about my night to call the management in the morning. after a few weeks of talking to management and telling the story over and over i received no money back. i believe that the owner of this and bar and one other only cares about the money and not costumer service. after all this is a tourist pub so the money leaves with return but without local support it will always be just an over price pub with less than average food.

America being the melting pot that it is, we’ve assimilated every culture under the sun into our restaurant and bar scene, but none has become quite as ubiquitous as the Irish pub, has it? Every town has one, with the same banal décor, maybe some Guinness or Jameson’s swag hanging on the wall, and the usual menu options like shepherd’s pie and burgers. That’s not to disparage any of that if it’s your thing, but I find it gets old after a while, and unless the quality of the food can really wow me, I’m not sold. Sadly that wasn’t the case here. The poutine bears little resemblance to the Montréal staple, just too-thick fries drowning in a pool of beef broth with Swiss cheese melted over top. The fried rice balls were the lone bright spot, nice and crispy with a savory filling. My steak sandwich was shockingly bland, with flavorless steak and cheese that couldn’t be redeemed by the sriracha aioli. The fries were a poor specimen, battered but not crispy outside and mushy inside. Adding insult to injury, despite several of the people at my table drinking only water, most of the glasses were left empty for far too long between refills. This was one of the more unsatisfying meals I’ve had at an Irish pub, although some of the other food at my party’s table looked a little better, so I’m willing to concede I may have just ordered wrong. Regardless, the lack of much ambiance, so-so service, and disappointing food do nothing to recommend this place over any other options around town.

Nice local pub, with a good selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. The food can be a little inconsistent, but the mussels are always delicious(and a great deal), the steaks are nice, and they have good seasonal salads.

This place is trouble. Went in for a nice night out and ended up waiting for 20 minutes without being greeted or even looked at. Menu looked tasty if you are one of the two tables they can actually handle at once.

This is really one of my favorite places to stop in this area of Connecticut. In all honesty, the food seems to get better and better with each visit. It also seems that they have more and more veggie(not vegan, but at least veggie) friendly dishes each time I visit. The beers on draught are always interesting. I had my first BBC here years ago. They pour a good Guinness. This trip I had a really refreshing Grapefruit Beer.(Schofferhofer Grapefruit) that was really perfect for a summer day. My companion had the Rye. I then opted to try a Mule, as I had never had one, and the bartender was talking about the different types, and mentioned a Irish Mule made with Jameson instead of vodka?. Yeah… That’s the ticket. We had the buffalo Blu Crisps as a starter, and this dish is absolutely crave worthy. It was just the right amount of spice and cool with blobs of blu cheese and scallions on top of chips drizzled with buffalo sauce. Good heat to it. Our lunch entrees were good. I had the Veggie burger(which was nice, looks like fresh made there, and not your typical boca or garden burger. It could have stood a little more time on the grill, but it was tasty. I substituted regular fries for the sweet potato fries that come with it. They’re a bit closer to frozen. An odd crinkle cut. Lunch for 2, with 2 beers and a mule, an appetizer and two full lunch entrees was around $ 50. We left full and happy, with leftovers, and didn’t need any more food that night.

We came in on a Thursday afternoon while on vacation. The wait staff was lacking in that there was no interest in wanting to serve anybody. There were 4 tables occupied when we were seated, waited 10 minutes for a beer & glass of wine. The calamari was great & reasonably priced. This was the only good thing about this place. We were charged $ 18 for a Caeser’s salad with 4 burnt shrimp & $ 16 for a Caeser’s salad with burnt salmon. Complete ripoff & bad service. I would not ever recommend eating here when in Niantic. Go somewhere authentic like Flanders Fish Market!

My wife and I had been meaning to eat here for several years but never found the opportunity to do so. We were celebrating our anniversary child-free and decided to stop here for a bite. It was mid-afternoon on a rainy Saturday, so the place was almost empty. The sole waitress seemed a bit distracted, probably because she was setting up for the dinner rush. She told us to sit anywhere, so we found a nice table by the front window. The service was prompt– drink and food orders were taken and the food appeared quickly. The corned beef sandwich was good– the meat was a bit on the dry side, but the portions were large, and the spicy mustard served on the side added a nice zing to the sandwich. The fries could have been a bit crispier. The salad was fresh and was a nice mix of greens. Overall, it was a satisfying lunch. Nothing outstanding here, but good, filling food!

Very nice ambience. An excellent place to go for drinks. The outside seating area is very pleasant. Live music and trivia nights. The food isn’t bad, but it’s nothing special. Great place for a guys’ /girls’ night out or a date. Very clean. Friendly staff. Great service. Overall, I’d recommend this place. Just don’t expect 5 star cuisine.

I only stopped in for a drink, so I can’t comment on the food. But I give this place low marks for service and décor. When I walked into the joint mid-afternoon on a Friday, there were just 3 other folks at the bar. But no bartender in sight. When she did appear a few minutes later, she was friendly, for sure. But just not very attentive. Too busy chatting up one of the regulars to pay attention to me. Took me over 10 minutes to get and cash out one drink. No exaggeration. I just wanted to take my drink out to the patio, but by the time the transaction was over, my glass was just about empty. Oh, well. I wasn’t planning on coming back, anyway. The space is not arranged well. The type of place that could use some professional«Bar Rescue» type help on spacing, décor and service.

Lunched on a Saturday in November. We sat on the high stools by the fireplace. It was lovely but the huge tv above the fire was too tacky. The lunch menu did not offer much for GF options… salads and a couple of dishes. I enjoyed the Salmon Escovitch… gorgonzola mashed potatoes, grilled salmon and pickled veggies. Very good. Filling, too. My bf had… wings. Shocker. The highlight for me was the Sparkler for Two… prosecco, club soda, st germain and lemons served in a tall carafe. I drank the whole thing. We didn’t stay for the music… worth returning to taste the dinner menu.

Sat outside on the patio around 10pm one Saturday night. Thought it is right off a road and abutting a parking lot, it was still nice eating outside. Our server was prompt and there was a decent beer menu. A band arrived shortly after we sat down and started setting up, so I assume they have live music inside at night. Selection is not very extensive but it is fairly varied. We started with calamari and I decided to give the brisket a try. Calamari was average but the brisket was not that great. It came with a massive piece of corn bread that was hard and tasteless. Though she had been prompt throughout the meal, our server took forever to clear the entrée plates and bring the check, which was a little frustrating. For mediocre food, prices were high. I won’t exactly avoid Black Sheep in the future, but I’m not too eager to return.

Shepherds pie night. Loved it with a Guinness as would be expected. This place inspired me to make poutine with corned beef after my last visit. Had the wings as an app this time and they were tasty and the 3 sauces on the side kick ass(although the spicy mustard was a favorite). Great cozy vibe and two different meals over the 2x i have been here and no disappointments yet. Staring at the dessert menu as we speak. Bread pudding is looking like fun. Will be back.
