Good breakfast food. Great service! We sat down and someone came right over to get our drinks. Then when we placed our order, our food came out promptly. Would definitely go back. Nice, tidy and clean too.

Best breakfast in the area. Incredible pancakes never disappoint. Great omelette too. This is the Chip’s of eastern Connecticut.

Charlie’s Place is definitely one of the all-around better restaurants in the Niantic Area. No meal I’ve had, nor any service I’ve seen at Charlie’s Place has been anything below satisfactory.

I wish I could at least give it 4 stars, but they’re too darn inconsistent these days! On good days they’re terrific. On bad days, yuck! The service is hit or miss. Some days they’re on top of it, other days you get someone who’s sleeping. My favorite thing they make is the Greek nachos. A couple times they were out of kalamata olives, so they substituted with California olives. No! That is not at all the same. It completely changes the taste of the dish, and if they told me beforehand, I would have ordered something else. Other times, you can tell it’s been sitting under a lamp for way too long, or reheated or something. Sometimes I ask for something and they either forget, or they take so long that it doesn’t matter anymore… «thanks for the extra sauce– may I have my check now?»

Haven’t been her for lunch or dinner but for breakfast they get 5 stars. First time in 8 years living in CT that I found a breakfast place that has impressed me this much. The place is very clean, even the bathrooms. Our waitress was so very nice. I don’t think I have eaten breakfast any other place in CT that was a fast. I don’t think we waited more than 10 minutes. Everything was perfect. Can’t wait to go try lunch or dinner next.

Wonderful lightly breaded and perfectly fried Haddock. Substituted perfectly sauteed Brussel Sprouts for the Chips. Perfectly delicious cole slaw. Iced mug to enjoy a perfect brewsky. Did I overuse«Perfect?» Good, I meant to. You can’t go wrong with Charlie’s!

Another favorite with the grandparents. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all equally good here, from multiple experiences. It’s not gourmet — but it’s not advertised that way, so not a problem. I love their gyro.

The best pastrami Reuben sandwich I believe I have ever eaten. The Greek salad was excellent too. Note: Salads are huge; order a small one.

YUM!!! We were in Old Lyme for Labor Day weekend. After a disappointing breakfast the day before at another place, we decided to try Charlies Place. We are so happy we did! Our breakfast was quick, hot and most importantly delicious! Breakfast is normally reasonably priced but Charlies seemed to be exceptionally reasonable! We are even considering driving an hour to try Charlies for Dinner!

Have passed on this place for dinner as prices seem high. Had breakfast… not cheap but fast, friendly service and good food. Liked the French toast a lot. Casual and good. Will return for breakfast.

This is a nice place to stop for a bite. The atmosphere is simple but pleasant. The service was fast and friendly. Our orders were taken in a short time after arriving. The Greek lemon chicken soup was amazing. Our entrees were solid too. I had a chicken parm grinder. My daughters ordered clamp strips and pasta. Both girls were happy and full.

I’m visiting family and am not from here. The food was decent. However, service was HORRIBLE and I mean HORRIBLE. Not a single person greeted us or asked us how many. After waiting 10 minutes, we decided to let them know we were waiting for a table. Finally, we get a table. 4 tables sat down after us, and they all had their meals well before we did. The waitress kept looking and checking to see if we had gotten our food, but didn’t once acknowledge us or speak to us to let us know it’s almost done or whatever. Coffee cups were never refilled until we had to ask, and even at that, asking didn’t guarantee you coffee. We watched the waiting area fill up with people once again, and nobody greeted them either. There were at least 4 open tables that could’ve been seated. Extremely chaotic to say the least. Breakfast food was decent like I said, but just wouldn’t go back based on the endless waiting times and horrible experience. Sad.

You can always count on a consistent meal at Charlie’s… Certainly not gourmet by any stretch of the imagination but consistent good comfort food… Today the black bean quesadilla, salad and Reuben hit the spot. Just right for a late afternoon lunch… Service is always good too.

Every time I am in town, I have a meal at this restaurant and, though it has changed names and presumable management, it is dependably good. I had the decadent hot lobster roll, which was reasonably priced at around $ 13.00 with fresh, hot seasoned fries that were way about your average fries, and coleslaw. I also have to get the lemon chicken soup, with tastes and feels like heaven on a chilly day. Service was fast and friendly and I loved everything about my recent visit.

Ended up here because Denny’s was a bust. Great food. The grape leafs were bomb. Yum yum. Great salads. Best diner in east Lyme. Probably better than the shack

Good reasonably priced diner food. Steak and eggs cooked perfectly over easy and med rare. French toast could have been made with better bread but at least not wonder bread.

Best diner I’ve been too. Great food. Great options and prices but also really great décor and friendly staff. My family and I went there after a trip to the book barn and it was perfect. Definitely more than we expected from a diner!

This place is pretty good. I usually stop by for dinner at least once every time I am in town. Love their island shrimp salad and the lobster bisque soup!

We visited for breakfast one day during our week-long CT adventure last week and thought the place was okay. Rich ordered scrambled eggs with home-fried potatoes and raisin bread, and was disappointed that the fryer wasn’t yet turned on for french fries. Also, when he asked for water, it never arrived. I ordered two scrambled eggs with home-fried potatoes and french toast(the #10 special, I think) with orange juice. It was fine. Service was just okay.
