Expensive, but worth every penny. I had a seafood risotto that was a house special, and while a small portion, the texture of the rice was perfect and the scallops quite literally melted in my mouth. The Inn at Newtown is a great place to go to impress literally anyone. I’ll miss it.

One of the worst meals i have had at a nice restaurant. Braised chicken was dried out and over cooked. Brussel sprouts were burned. Buyer beware!

The Inn has been a staple for me going back 10 – 15 years now. Seconding what others have said, it is a Newtown landmark with lots of colonial charm. Whether you sit in the red room in the front or in the dining room in the back, in the winter you can find wood fires burning and there is not a bad seat in the house. Sunday brunch is always a great bet if you’re looking for something local and on the more upscale end. With that being said, I recently went about a month ago and was disappointed with my findings. It seems like the menu experiences a complete overhaul once or twice a year, and while that should keep things exciting it seems like it is leading to a lack of consistency in which I never quite know if i’m going to have a great meal or just something thats sub-par. This time around the menu was seasonal for the summer(which is fine, many restaurants adopt this model) but I found the menu choices to be limiting and over priced. I believe there is a way to keep the menu new and fresh with more upscale /seasonal options while keeping the classic ‘inn’ items as well(i’m thinking caesar salad, lobster mac, clam chowder, burgers). There is a market in Newtown for a traditional, American bistro/bar and it seems like the Inn is trying hard to be something it’s not these days. This isn’t to say that the food isn’t prepared well or is not tasty(it usually is), but more the second others who say there is lost potential here. Stick with the classics(or at least keep a few on the menu) to go back to being the Inn I know and love!

We ate in the Bar area and our waitress was amazing! Super efficient and able to do her job well. The food was ok. Ordered chicken soup it was homemade and had good flavor and a ½ order of the Cobb salad. The salad was delicious and very filling for a ½ order. Hubby ordered burger and it was ok. He said the burger was not worth the $ 14 charge. It had a funny smell in there: musty and old. Maybe open up some windows to freshen up the air/place. Will not be back.

The menu was creative and filled with variety. The specials are worth the listen to. Everything tasted fresh and was presented well. The service was personable and attentive. I will be back again soon.

I often wonder how they are still open. I have eaten here many times. While the food is OK it is nothing special and I always leave with the feeling that they did not appreciate my business. This goes from the hostess to the wait staff to the bar tender. Too many other wonderful options where your business is appreciated. Major attitude adjustment might make it worth another look but unfortunately I think the«bad attitude» has been institutionalized.

Had my daughters bridal shower here. Everything turned out to be quite good. The servers were very helpful and kept everything going. The food was delicious with soup and salad. The only thing was I ordered different potatoes but the ones they served were just as good. Everyone really liked the salmon. The room is so comfortable, we had a great time! It is now closed… So disappointed

We have been coming here for years for Mother’s Days, communions, confirmations, and other celebrations. We have had some great experiences and some lackluster. Tonight I had the short rib bolognaise over pappardelle pasta, which was hearty and tasty. My son enjoyed his hanger steak, and the boys who chose burgers were very happy. My mother was very disappointed with her scallops special. I had a taste, and they were overly salty, and the accompanying risotto was overpowered with very large pieces of sundried tomatoes. The main concern I have is the very empty dining room. It feels like an abandoned warehouse. It was once a busy restaurant where we would always bump into friends around town. These days, when we go to the Inn, there is a sense of a death spiral in progress. I hope there’s a way to turn things around. I would miss this Newtown landmark.

Located in the quaint New England town of Newtown, Connecticut, The Inn at Newtown fits right in to its surroundings. The décor is understated and without pretense, with many lovely antiques and a large but cozy bar that beckons you to sit a spell. Sadly, this is where the accolades must end. We met our friends for Brunch on a Sunday at 1 pm. While the restaurant was fairly busy, many tables were empty and there seemed to have been adequate staff, yet the service was far below our expectations. The brunch menu is enticing. Our friends ordered the French toast stuffed with Brie and marscapone, which curiously had no evidence of any Brie, and filet mignon Benedict, which arrived lukewarm and with almost no holandaise. After asking three different servers for more hollandaise, it finally arrived, albeit lumpy and cold, which of course was the exact temperature of her dish. We ordered desserts of pecan pie and chocolate mousse as well as coffee. The coffee was brought to the table without any milk or sugar. A major misstep. Unlike the desserts, they happily arrived shortly thereafter, but ten minutes later we were finished with our coffee and had not received our desserts. The waiter came to the table and our friend asked if he remembered we had ordered dessert to which he said ‘we are out of the chocolate mousse’. Our friend asked ‘when were you going to tell us?’ to which he replied ‘I’m telling you now’. A more appropriate response would have been to apologize. We then ordered a lemon crème cake which was excellent, as was the pecan pie. Both were light and not overly sweet, which suits our palettes. There is a great deal of lost potential at this establishment. The food choices are excellent, but their execution needs some tweaking. The waitstaff need to be trained in basic procedures and professionalism. If they can rectify these shortcomings, they will perhaps earn our return visit.

Excellent NY strip dinner special last night. 16 oz and cooked to perfection with spinach and mashed potatoes. Also had the Asian Caramel wings as an app. And they were cooked well done as I asked and had a nice flavor.

Stopped in for lunch. Loved the view of view, but my husband commented that bread wasn’t provided. My pork chop tasted pre-made and reheated and everything on my plaet was the same temperature — burning.. As we paid I noticed that another table was given some bread, but they had to ask; our server revealed that bread wasn’t provided at lunch. Also, the lunch menu is the same as the dinner — if I were a juror, I’d say ‘guilty of reheating’ on that fact alone. The interior of this beautiful antique home has been completely gutted and replaced with drop ceilings, plaster wall and cheap posters. It could be a place with working fireplaces, or at the bare minimum, an attempt at vintage preservation. They might benefit by contacting the local historical society. Food creative artisan freshness would also be nice,(such as a specials menu). Connecticut is capable of doing much better than this.

If you are out for a drive and looking for a relaxed country inn for lunch, head to the Inn at Newtown. The menu is varied with lots of great sandwiches like Salmon BLT or Portobello Mushroom. The Lobster Grilled Cheese and Angus Burger are delicious. Fries are good, but if you like, you can substitute a salad of field greens with a tangy balsamic dressing. My son raved about the Fall Chicken Stew, a real homey dish. My husband liked the Lobster Corn Chowder. House wines at $ 6.50 a glass are a great bargain! Service is a little slow and haphazard, but nevertheless, this is a good place to visit.

Always a safe choice to come here but nothing exceptional. Very charming New England Inn with a great atmosphere. The bar is traditional and beautiful. But there are better choices for food at a better value nearby.

We hosted a dinner event here in July. The setting was beautiful and Susan, their event coordinator, was very pleasant. However, there seems to be a huge disconnect between who plans the events and who executes them. There simply wasn’t enough food for our guests. Almost all of the entrees and sides ran out and weren’t replenished. A little more than half our guests got to try the dessert, one tray of fruit cobbler for more than 50 people. At $ 35 per person, we really should have been able to feed everyone. Can’t recommend, unfortunately.

This place has been here for quite some time with this name. Having grown up in Monroe since the early eighties I’ve seen it change hands a few times. Regardless of managament ups and downs its always been a historic landmark in Newtown. The interior has a homey, New England pub/restaurant vibe you just can’t get on the West Coast. They try and kind of have thier own version of New England charm here in the Pacific Northwest but, its not the same. There’s a nice fireplace with a sitting area when you walk in that really helps set the tone– your in New England– its cold and you need some good olé New England comfort food. I almost always stop by when I’m home for the holidays visiting family. Its not the most outstanding food I’ve ever had but, it does the job well. All of the New England standards are on the menu, they have a descent beer selection, and make good drinks. I’ll continue to come back as long as they’re around when I return home for the holidays!

Poor service. Struggled to make a table for 5 even though they clearly had 6, 6 tops available. Food was boring at best.

The food & drinks were great… However, our server upon learning we had the Unilocal check-in offer, seemed perplexed and stand-off-ish. Even the manager seemed confused when she sent him over to see what the offer was. We saved a meer $ 6 and it was made out to be a federal case. So although the cuisine and cocktails were wonderful, the customer service was certainly lacking.

Inconsistent is the word that comes to mind when I think of this restaurant,(also known locally as «Newtown Inn»). Let’s start with the service: I’ve been to this restaurant many times, and most of the time the service is very good. However on the few occasions I’ve received bad service, it was really bad. Fortunately my most recent visits over the past 3 months showed that the service is improving. Keep it up! The food quality also varies. I’ve been going to this restaurant for the past 5 years. During that time the menu has changed many times, and they can’t seem to keep the great items on their menu(like the lobster & bacon spring roll from a few years back). As a french fry snob, I can attest to the fact that they use the previously frozen kind with the off-tasting«crispy coating» that keeps the fries crisp long after they’ve gone cold. Thumbs down on the french fries. The bread, served with butter, is incredibly tasty and always served warm. Could only be improved if they offered olive oil for dipping. Last year(or was it the year prior?) they tried serving the ribs from their sister restaurant in New Milford. Great idea and great menu item, but like many great items on their menu, it didn’t last. I’ve never had a steak here that tasted worth the price charged. Usually the steaks are on the tough side and lack flavor. Yet I keep ordering them, forever hopeful that they will improve. *sigh*. However, the«giant» lump crab appetizer is quite tasty and highly recommended(although it also may be gone from the menu by the time you read this). Desserts are hit and miss. They’ve recently brought back an old favorite«ice cream sandwich», composed of ice cream between two slices of chocolate cake. Delicious. The bartenders really know their stuff here, so you won’t go wrong with whatever mixed drink you order. Overall, the menu is priced at about 25% higher than it should be for the quality of the food. I’m optimistic that one day the owners will either raise the quality of the food or lower the prices appropriately. Even small changes like serving fresh cut fries would be a step in the right direction and would have me coming here more often.
