Made appointment beforehand, but they decide since walk in came before me, they should go first. Had to wait 45 min before he saw me. Professionalism leave a lot to be desired.

I started coming here with my husband last year and he’s been a patient way before me. Dr. Zhu is very smart, personable, and straightforward. I never knew this until he told me but I have a small astigmatism so that’s why I see blurry a bit in one eye… that makes so much sense when my previous eye doctors asked ‘if 1 or 2 — which is better’… Well they are both blurry!!! He’s the EYE guy! I received a prescription for eyeglasses which I bought online and a prescription for contacts which he helped me order using my insurance. He said they would come in a week or two and I got a phone call in two days! So quick! I highly recommend him !!! Meter Parking on major street but I found a side street where it’s free!

I found Dr. Zhu when I needed a new pair of Ortho-K lenses. I had low expectations of East Coast doctors in terms of Ortho-K, since these nighttime corrective lenses seem to be more common in the West Coast where I’m from. I was a challenging case, too, because my family/doctor did not keep very good records of my prescription, and the last time I got fitted was years ago. Dr. Zhu has exceeded my expectations completely!!! — He refitted me, carefully and attentively, coordinating with my family/doctor from the West Coast, giving me soft contact lenses with different prescriptions as my eyes changed during the fitting process, and it was all so easy for me. — He explained my options for nighttime corrective lenses, how the technology has evolved, the differences in prices, all in terms I could understand. He was honest and transparent about what was worth its money. — He was always thoroughly clear about how much to pay and when to pay. I’ve been very pleased with how affordable the lenses were. — I just lost one of my contact lenses, and Dr. Zhu picked up right when I called. He explained what we’d do and he offered to give me soft contact lenses until the new lens would come in. Accessible, honest and transparent, helpful, attentive, knowledgeable — these are the words I think of when I think of Dr. Zhu. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by his excellent care. I highly recommend him.

Full disclosure, my dad’s friend own’s this place. But anyway, it’s great. Good selection of frames, quick, great customer service. They also have two locations. They take most insurances also, which is a definite plus!

I went to Malden EyeCare Clinic in West Newton for a few reasons. They are close to my house, they take my insurance(VSP), and Dr. Zho has lots of experience. I was able to easily book an appointment online for both me and my husband. My eye exam lasted about 30 minutes because I wanted an Rx for both contacts and glasses. My husband only wears glasses so his eye exam lasted only about 15 min at most. They have later appointments on some days — ours were booked for 6 and 6:30PM. I did feel good about going to a smaller practice rather than a LensCrafters or something similar. Dr. Zho clearly takes pride in what he does and he knows what he’s talking about. He is also professional and pleasant. I am assuming this location has not been open for that long, as it looks like they still had some stuff to set up/put away, but it didn’t get in the way of anything. Everything was tidy and clean — I ordered some contacts on a Tuesday night after my exam and I got a call Thursday afternoon that they were ready to be picked up. That was fast! I didn’t spend too much time looking at their frames, so my review is really only on the eye exam. That said, I did see some pretty cool frames there — not necessarily any of the big brand-names that you might find elsewhere, but still some interesting stuff. I’m knocking off one star though because while they had some neat frames, it seemed like most of their frames were more for women and there wasn’t as big of a selection of unisex or frames specifically for men. Assuming I have the same Vision Service Plan for insurance next year, I’d definitely come back for my eye exam.
