After reading the previous, negative review by Rachel C. and months of waiting for my disappointment to abate, I decided to write about my own bad experience with Tracy and her shop in Newton. Yes, the shop is lovely. And Tracy had many good design ideas when she came to my home. I handed over a large sum of money for a custom sofa and a Roman shade for my living room. The shade was delivered and, while beautiful, is not very professionally done – $ 1200 later. After months of waiting and dozens of calls and emails to her to return my $ 2500 deposit for the sofa, I finally got my money back but only after I threatened to sue. Tracy blamed the company(Lee Industries) and even told me they agreed to give $ 500 or $ 600 to her(for pain & suffering??) for the ordeal. Tracy told my husband that she would pass that money on to us. Yeah, right. Needless to say, I never saw any of it that money and it’s now a year later. Tracey Becker of Home on Sumner has been exceeding generous with her time and ideas. She suggested many fine fabrics for recovering my sofas. Although I decided to refill the pillows instead as my old fabric was still very attractive, I would ask her for help again as I found her lovely to deal with and a creative helpful person.

Same thing happened to me as the last reviewer. Last year I had Tracy come to my house for a consult. She had many great ideas and said she would send me an email with all her ideas for the space. After 2 weeks, I called her store and was told she would call me back. Another week went by and still no phone call so I called again and spoke to one of her employees. I left another message asking for the«email» she was going to send me with all her ideas. The consult was $ 75.00 so the least she could do was give me a call back. –Never happened. It’s a shame because I would have been a frequent shopper in her store.

I’ve wandered by this tiny delightful shop many times. The other day a very unique vase caught my eye, I assumed I could never afford it. Yesterday I noticed that they also sold candles and I urgently needed a candle! So I steeled myself for the typical Newton«you’re really not going to buy anything but I’ll tolerate you in my shop»…The place is tiny but packed with an amazing and eclectic mix of wares. The ownder is an interior designer who runs her practice out of this space. The offerings include unique bowls, pieces of interesting architectural accents, drums for printing fabric(I’ve never seen anything like this), textiles, and vases of all shapes and sizes. She also has collected amazing pieces of driftwood. There are many price points, including interesting bamboo vases in the $ 25 range. The ownder’s husband was covering and apologetically told me he doesn’t know the business but proceeded to show me all the different candles and then did a mini tour of his favorite pieces in the shop! A very welcoming and enjoyable experience. And you know what? Guess where’d I’d go first if I wwanted to hire an interior designer? Karma counts, Newton business owners.
