As a previous reviewer said, this bar definitely has a ‘Cheers’ feeling. The crowd is typically more conservative but the UK Conservative which is the US moderate leaning left. The people are taller too. It’s almost like an alternate reality. Not everyone sails yachts but mostly you will find locals here. So if you’re looking to get away from the tourist tat, well, come here, we’re – they’re, friendly, and the libations are affordable. This is not a dive bar; if you’re looking for that hit up Jimmy’s on Memorial.

It’s a definite stop, usually on the first night, when in town to sail. Full of fellow sailors, it is a fun familiar place to have a drink and catch up with old friends.

This is my first ever Unilocal review, but I decided to create an account because my friends from Chile and I were bullied at an establishment that we thought would have more class. I will keep this brief because I have to work in the morning, but I want to expose a few of their practices of racism and intimidation,(terms I do not use lightly) before I head to bed. I know that this complaint might seem insignificant, but I want to warn the minorities who might visit the town of Newport to stray from this place that will not only make you feel unwelcome but in addition, will make you regretful that you gave them any patronage, at all. The story is as simple as this, we tried to play pool twice however they simple denied our reservation(placing a dollar on the table) and forced us to wait an entire hour only to be denied again. After this point we left feeling the very occasional dismissal that occurs from time-to-time in the life of a minority. In sum, we were five dark skinned gentlemen looking to have a beer and play billiards but we all felt discriminated against and bullied — I realize that it’s vague, but it’s hard to put into context. There will, inevitably, be a dismissal of this comment because most of the people in the small bar were either indifferent or supportive of the way we were treated — believe they will support the denial that this ever happened. But for the record, the person that treated us this way was a bald Caucasian, averaged sized, non-descript man with glasses, and a bald, fairly large, Caucasian man — working on the night of 2.23.15

A small bar with a «Cheers» feeling. Average priced drinks and 2 bartenders on duty despite the small size. There is also a pool table. Very nice yacht reading material in the VERY clean bathrooms(for a bar). Not a bad spot for a quick beer but not a «party bar».

You wouldn’t think this was a bar by the name of it but that’s just what it is. Literally stumbled upon it while walking down Thames St. and looking to kill a little time before a dinner reservation. Super nice bartender and a decent selection of beers on tap. Reasonably priced at $ 4.50 each. I’d classify it as kind of a dive bar(not a bad thing) with a random mix of patrons(locals + visitors) but everyone was friendly. Nice pool table with games for $ 1. Definitely would come back next time I’m in Newport and looking for a low key beer or 2.
