Don’t let the space deter you from a delicious meal!!! When you walk in you immediately feel cramped; but the FOOD!!! I went here after reading the other posts. I came with my son and we ordered the last two croissant with sausage, egg & cheese… let’s just say we couldn’t finish the sandwich(brought it home for later) and the coffee is out of this world!!! The only thing I can say is to come early…11am is when they start offering lunch and it got realllly crowded really fast.(My son & I sat at one of the tables by the window).

The dining area is small but comfortable and the food is delicious! Stuffed croissants in variety, and the two that we tried were amazing. Lots of pastries to choose from. Staff was very friendly and service was very fast!

So this is a very small and cozy place. Everything is made fresh, and it’s the best sandwich you’ll ever have. With that said, I find it obnoxious that people are complaining about wait times or things running out. It’s not a Subway. The ladies that were working there were apologetic for the wait(which wasn’t that long), and the service was great. With that said, this is a perfect 10 and by far the best sandwich I’ve ever had, with nothing being a close second. I got the Luxembourg and the ultimate grilled cheese. Whomever created these sandwiches is truly an artist. The jams, cheeses, meats, and everything else are put together like a puzzle. Nothing is out of place and every ingredient elevates the other. I can’t say enough good things about this place. I live in NYC in the heart of Manhattan and I can’t even find something nearly as good.

I was so excited to give this place a try. FINALLY got away from work and made my way over to pick up some goodies. Arrived at 1:50(they close at 3:00) and upon walking in was told that they only had coffee for sale. She cheerfully told me that they had ran out of food. What a bummer! One word… PREP! Although obviously this is a good place since they are so busy and selling so much food that they can’t keep up with baking but I’ve never heard of a place running out of food an hour before closing time. That’s a catastrophe in the culinary world. I’ve cooked in plenty of restaurants and if you run out of prep before service is over, your world is threatened to be ended by the chef. You guys really can’t see that you’re running low on things and pop more items into the oven to at least make it to closing time? As I was leaving there was a couple approaching and I told them that Rosemary and Thyme had run out of food. They had the same reaction as I did. Asked for recommendations and I sent them over to Boru for great food.

Small inside, lots character w posters of musicals on the walls, very reasonable prices Interesting assortment of really flavorful food. I think it’s 80% butter. Double caramel chocolate chip cookie: thick, soft, really good Pain au chocolate: Nutella inside, quite tasty My wife ordered the Chicken Santorini. She liked it, but was not as happy with it as she expected to be by the description — the flavors just didn’t flow together as well as they could. I got the Verona Sandwich and was quite happy. It was a number of levels of deliciousness. My heart stopped in the middle, so that was unfortunate. However, after pounding on my chest a bit, my arteries de-clogged and back to munching I went. If I didn’t care about my health, I would eat here 10 times a day.

If you’re in Newport RI around breakfast or lunch and looking to eat on a budget please check this place out. Amazing little place tucked into the residential side of Newport within walking distance of the infamous mansions that you should visit. Food: We had planned on going here for lunch but as circumstance would have it we were pretty hungry upon our arrival around 9am since we hadn’t eaten anything for breakfast. I really enjoy trying new places but we were on a pretty tight timeline and I didn’t want to go too far off course so we came here for something quick. Breakfast: We got a black forest croissant and a stuffed croissant(egg, cheese, bacon). Both were perfectly executed. Great flaky texture on the black forest croissant with just the right amount of sweetness; the stuffed croissant was fluffy and the ingredients inside were in correct proportions. It was the perfect amount of food to stave off hunger pains for the next few hours while keeping us from slipping into a food coma that I’ve often fell prey to after a great meal. Needless to say I was pretty excited to return for lunch. Lunch: We went with the Havana Cuban and the Ultimate Grilled Cheese. As usual we split the sandwiches(splitting should be discussed early in dating, possibly before religion, politics, and children). The cuban was definitely the favorite for both of us, I can’t think of a single petty complaint… which is rare for me… I can always quibble about something. The grilled cheese was good, but I thought they went a little heavy on the extra sharp cheddar cheese; it overpowered the other ingredients muting their flavors. In all reality I think the choice of cheese would be better suited for a sharp cheddar to give voice to the other ingredients. The real standout for me though was their English toffee chocolate chip cookie. It was the best cookie I have EVER had! I’m saying this at considerable risk to myself. My wife is a consummate baker, and I may get penalty boxed for this bold yet accurate assertion(dessert famine). Ambiance/waitstaff: This place is nestled amongst some houses on the fringe of the residential section a few blocks from the mansions(I questioned my GPS at the time). Parking wasn’t an issue for us but then again we came here in December, I imagine it can be a real bear in peak season so be prepared to walk a few blocks… its good for you. Mostly 2 seater tables with ~ 14 chairs total… that’s right, don’t think you’ll be waltzing in this place with a party of 8. The service here is pretty great, super friendly staff with solid recommendations on various menu items. Bottom Line: Yes by all means check this place out, its super cheap, great quality ingredients and quite filling. If going here in the summer I would call your order in 30 min prior, there is a snowballs chance in hell you’ll be able to get a seat without waiting for quite awhile, and the lady working the front told me it’s not uncommon to have a line 10 people deep outside the door.

Absolutely THEBEST sandwich I’ve ever had. Get the Travino! The only downside to this place are its hours. The staff is still super-sweet, the deserts are awesome, and I hear the coffee rocks.

So, after an awesome tour of The Breakers, we made our way here to Rosemary & Thyme. Wow did it not disappoint! One thing is we barely made it before the Saturday lunch rush. Whew. This small little restaurant packed a huge punch to the tastebuds! I ordered their Harvest sandwich. Read closely: «Roasted pork loin, smoked bacon, sauteed spinach, caramelized onions, harvest chutney, Xsharp cheddar, dijonaise, on a grilled baguette». Ridiculous is all I can really say about this sandwich. A friend of mine had the same and couldn’t believe how great it was! I also had a cup of coffee. That was also a great call as it very hot and no need to add anything to it. Just for the record, this place was easily one of my top spots in Newport, and I would come back in a heartbeat! San Diego could use a spot like this. I would say just make sure you plan a little ahead or be prepared to wait in a line for food and a seat!

Great little spot! After walking all day we randomly found a sandwich spot via Unilocal and tried our luck. Walked in and it was crowded! If you’re going to go, you have to make sure you have time. Only a few tables so either get it to go or sit outside. Sounds like call ahead is a great option. We got a couple sandwiches and a cookie. Super helpful with the coffee choices — let us try the cold brews before ordering. I got the Brie and pear sandwich — only thing was slightly too many pears.

This is a cozy little shop that’s only open for a few hours of the day, so come early! Bf and I popped in for an early Sunday breakfast, ready for their famous stuffed croissants. We grabbed one of the few seats available and dug in. The croissant was buttery and just the right amount of flaky, but overall it was just ok. I also think it’s a bit overpriced for what you’re getting. Each item is about $ 4 – 5, and it’s really not that big. The croissant wasn’t enough to fill me up(and I’m not a big breakfast eater). We also tried one of the tomato tarts and a banana walnut scone. Both were just ok. Regardless, it’s a nice breakfast spot that I would still recommend. The service was friendly and I liked the store’s European feel. As we ate, there was a constant stream of people coming in and out. 3.5 stars.

What a great little café with super friendly employees! We stopped in for a quick breakfast on our first morning in Newport. The space is a bit small, only maybe 5 tables inside, but there were a few tables open when we came by at 9:45am on a Thursday. At this time, though, they only had 1 stuffed croissant left. It was the veggie one, but we gladly ordered it. Also had a tomato-spinach-goat cheese tart. The former was incredibly delicious and I definitely understand the hype! The latter was equally good: flaky and filling. There were also other baked goods available, but we didn’t try any of those. Out of curiosity we took a look at the lunch menu, which had a lot of tasty sounding options. If we’d had more than 2 days in Newport, we definitely would have been back to try the sandwiches. The café itself is easy to miss if you are not familiar with the area. I wasn’t expecting it to be in a residential looking area so we actually passed it on the first drive by. We were able to find parking just 2 blocks away on one of the side streets. The side streets require residential permits, but not from 6am-6pm so we were able to keep our car there until later that evening.

The stuffed croissants are incredible! I think we got here around 9 or 10 on a Sunday before we left Newport and they were sold out of all of them. Luckily, the croque monsieur stuffed croissants were just coming out of the oven in 5 minutes. so we waited and got a fresh batch. Piping hot and filled with deliciousness, we couldn’t wait to devour them. It was just the right amount of bechamel, ham, and gruyère. Service is amazing. Everyone that worked there is really friendly and helpful. Their coffee is also delicious. Definitely want to come back and try their sandwiches, as they only offer them for dine-in unless they are crazy busy.

A year later and still tasty and friendly as ever! This time we had the stuffed croissant. Hearty filling of mushrooms, spinach, eggs, and asiago cheese in a melt in your mouth pastry! To finish off we shared an apple filled like muffin and a blueberry and peach danish. I could basically eat there all day and never tire of the food and atmosphere!

Matt and Anna, the chefs and owners, were very nice hosts and I’m glad to have visited their bakery. Iced coffee and cookies were a great afternoon treat. Nice European feel and flavor. Wish I had more time for one of their famous sandwiches. I appreciate their hours of operation… Get em while they’re hot!

I really loved Rosemary and Thyme. We stopped in for a quick lunch one rainy day during our recent trip to Newport. The space is small, but well set up and made for a great atmosphere to have lunch. This place felt very Newport, but could have easily been transported to any small town and functioned well there as well. It was great to see all the locals coming in and out, knowing the staff as they picked up their takeout. We had two sandwiches, the Brie and Bartlett pear as well as the Travino, and they were both delicious, though think the Travino was the surprise winner for both my wife and me! They were also a little backed up when we first arrived and we started with an appetizer of a toffee and chocolate cookie. While I am sure that all of the other baked goods are equally great, this cookie is NOT to be missed. It was pretty perfect. Overall, we had a great experience at Rosemary and Thyme and I would definitely recommend it to anyone coming to Newport for a lunch stop. I don’t think I need to sell it to the locals as they seemed to already know how great it was!

Very small and intimate setting where everything they have is exceptionally delicious! Buttery, flaky croissants and stuffed croissants densely filled with Canadian bacon, eggs and cheese. They also have a very creative and diverse array of scones and pastries that are both sweet and savory. Two things that I might suggest. Have quiches of the day maybe and soy/almond milk as the coffee selection is limited

Great little place tucked away on spring street in newport. I haven’t had anything mediocre from this bakery and café, but my favorite are the bourbon chocolate chip cookies. R and T is unfortunately closed until late February. I will however be there on opening day to pick up a dozen cookies and grab some breakfast.

This place is the definition of hidden gem. You’d never know of it by just walking down Thames or researching places to eat in Newport, so a big shout out to Unilocal for this one! Off the beaten path in Newport lies this diamond. A small mom and pop type sit down restaurant that makes some amazing breakfast/lunch food. You’ll be lucky if you can get a seat in here as it’s very small, so be prepared to take your food to go. I was lucky enough to get a table though. I had the European sandwich and a bowl of sweet potato and apple bisque. Turned out to be the best meal of the trip. The European sandwich consist of ham, Italian dressing, lettuce and a few other things on a croissant. Absolutely delicious down to the last bite. Had it not been for the soup, I would have ordered another one. As for the soup, all I can say is it was the best soup I’ve ever tasted. Sweet potato and apple are apparently the best mixture on earth. I’ve literally never had a soup that tastes so good. These two dishes are must orders when coming here. I also tasted my wife’s Caesar salad which happened to be delicious. Specifically the chicken. However they marinated, seasoned and cooked it was about as perfect as you can get. You hear about a lot of great places to eat in Newport, but rarely this one. Take my advice and all the other reviews of this place and get here immediately. It’s only open from 7am — 3pm, so keep that in mind. But you will certain be happy you came.
