I can’t give it Five Stars because the help has sometimes been a bit unprofessional. But I get past that as they are often mobbed in the summertime. I’ve been usually very happy with the food. The Oysters are fresh and the meals are substantial and very tasty. The service however, has not been consistent and sometimes right from the front door, they are a minor disaster. I like this place and always want to return.

After driving a few hours from NYC to Newport, my boyfriend and I tried to eat here on Wed 8⁄18 in the late afternoon/early evening, but it was closed! What greeted us was a handwritten sign on the door«CLOSED. Sorry for the inconvenience!» We ended up eating at Benjamin’s next door(food was ok). I came back the next day, and it was still closed. What happened? Is the restaurant ever going to re-open, or has it closed for good?

We went to this restaurant at around 8pm on a Saturday evening just for drinks and appetizers. Our waitress was very pleasant and the theme of the restaurant was great. They had a solo guy singing some cover songs at the front of the restaurant which was quite enjoyable as well. We ordered stuffies which were unbelievable, oysters which were very large and delicious, mussels which were pretty good and lobster pizza, the only item which we were not pleased with. This pizza was $ 18 and with 6 very small pieces, it was hardly worth it. All else was terrific!

**3.5STARS** (But I’m going to round it up to 4) This is a place where you need to really know what you’re ordering. I definitely failed myself by ordering the«seafood meadly». My goal while on my Newport trip was to eat as much seafood as possible hence why I ordered the meadly. Um, no. The dish was pretty boring, slightly bland and overcooked. It came with a side of unseasoned rice and veggies. So, despite its name, I recommend you skip that and go for something that isn’t so boring. HOWEVER — the saving grace came from tasting my sister’s stuffed lobster! BAM! Awesome! Great! YUM! Not only did you get to dine on some lobster, but they also made a dish out of a portion of it and boy was that portion huge! The stuffing was filled with great spices and perfect filling. Haha, and it even comes with a bib so you can dig in and get your hands dirty! I also tried their stuffed Quahogs and Quahog chili. The chili was SPECTACULAR! I’ve never had a stuffed quahog before so it’s hard to compare but it was just okay. Nothing über-spectacular. Outdoor seating also complimented this restaurant and the service was great, too. Note — the wine list here isn’t all that impressive and slighly over priced for what they did offer.

To be honest, it’s not the most amazing resturant I’ve ever been too, but it is one of my favorites in Newport. There is nothing special about it, but it is centrally located, clean, has a nice wait staff and has the best lobster bisque I’ve ever tasted. I enjoy the laid back atmosphere and sitting on the porch area. It’s a great place for a casual lunch.

This place is good for a nice and moderately cheap night out on the town. The seared tuna is great and you definitely should try their daily specials. The fare is typical Newport. A lot of people rave about their chowder but I have had so many… I felt that their chowder tasted like corn starch and flour had been added as a thickening agent. I prefer chowders that include more than just cream, potatoes, and a little bit of clam.

Went to this place about 3 days ago. Basically this place is not bad to have a beer and some snacks. By no means this is a place for a great dining experience. Service was very good and the place is well located and well decorated. One thing i recomment is the clam chowder, it was the best thing of our meal. I also had the sesame seared tuna. Very little flavor and the tuna was not very fresh, probably frozen. We also had a plain salad, again just average but seemed fresh. I agree with other that this is a place to have a burger and and beer, not much more than that.

Rhode Island Quahog Company is one of the best places to stop downtown for a bite to eat. I say this without a tourist cap on.. . Stopped in for a birthday dinner with a group of 6. Called ahead for reservations, great idea for the summertime in Newport! Seated promptly at a secluded booth toward the back of the restaurant. Started off with a round of clam chowdah’(creamy and delicious!). A table that was leaving was nice enough to give us a stack of leftover«Free bowl of clam chowder» coupons to cover this for us! Thoughtful! Next were 2 appetizers: Fried Calamari and Jamaican Jerk Wings. I am not a seafood lover, I tend to avoid it at all costs. I was brave enough though, to TRY the calamari. It didn’t taste like much to me.. . but a friend told me that the less fishy it tastes, the better quality it is, so I guess this was pretty good! The chicken wings were AMAZING. Some of the tastiest I have ever indulged in. I highly recommend these! Like I said, here I am reviewing a seafood restaurant when I don’t even like the type of food. In any case, I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki, which was a delight! Fortunately the restaurant had both surf and turf options which was a plus for the diverse tastes of our group. I would love to return here for several more courses of food!

Service was fair. Food was fair. Really nothing exciting to write home about. Asked for dressing for my salad and the woman working there didn’t speak English so it took about 5 other people until my waitress came by to get a side of dressing.

$ 24 for mediocre entrees made me sad. We had to send our Manhattan clam chowder back because it was cold, and it wasn’t any hotter the second try – it wasn’t much to speak of, either.

Casual seafood joint. The raw bar is cheaper and just as fresh as Scales and Shells. They also take reservations and the wait is a lot shorter. We had stuffed quahog shells, the spinach salad, and of course, the littlenecks, peal and eat shrip, and the oysters.

Bacon cheeseburger on a portuguese sweetbread roll. That’s about all I have to say about that. While on Thames and subject to a barrage of tourists, you will enjoy the non-touristy feel inside. If you’re around and you come in more than once, you’ll get to know the small staff and the owner who is frequently found on the receiving side of the bar(what a life!). The food is well done here, the prices are a tad on the expensive side but not too bad, good enough to be a repeat offender for me!

Good down to earth, fill you up, New England cuisine. My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner here for 20 people in August of 2007. The management was excellent and they accomodated our price and food requests. The fish and chips, stuffed quahogs, and clam chowder are some of the best priced and most tasty items on the Newport drag.

This place sits right on the main drag in Newport an has outdoor seating with heaters so you can sit here all year round. Other than that, the food stinks and the service stinks. I would recommend grabbing a beer here but thats it. There is no other reasons to stay.

Rhode Island Quahog is a really cute, very New Englandy place to grab a meal right on the main drag in Downtown Newport. Serving lots of shellfish/seafood-based fare and some mean looking steaks, it’s the kind of place where you can find something for everyone. In nicer weather, you can sit outside on a front patio with a beer and your meal while enjoying the precious scenes of Newport. My party started with the Tenderloin Gorgonzola appetizer, which was excellent(essentially pieces of steak on top of potato pancakes in gorgonzola sauce), although a bit weird for an appetizer(it could have very well been a main). I had the old classic Fish & Chips as a main and really enjoyed it, although the mushy peas were conspicuously absent(maybe I shouldn’t think it’s actual England, but New England… Ohhhh right). The service was great(the waitress was very patient with someone in my party who literally has among the most bizarre substitution/restaurant requests of all time), and the food was served quickly. I really enjoyed it and would definitely go back. It’s especially nice to be able to sit outside in a place like this.

The last stop on our tour of Rhode Island cuisine was at the Rhode Island Quahog Company(RIQC). We were sat just inside the restaurant directly next to an open sliding window/door. Just enough of the salty sea air, but none of the sun that comes along with sitting outside. Perfect! We started with an order of Stuffed Quahogs and a bowl of Chowder. RIQC denotes house specialties on their menu with a little graphic of a clam. I found it odd that the clam graphic was not pictured next to the Stuffed Quahog dish. Weird, but whatever. Oh, and for those of you who don’t know a clam and quahog can be used interchangeably Despite not being listed as one of their specialties, the Stuff Quahog was delicious. As was the bowl of Chowder that Audrey and I put down in short order. For entrees the gals went with salads. Audrey ordered the Waldorf and Nicole the House Salad. Boring! Ryan and I both ordered the Lobster Roll. Unlike the spot on Block Island, this Lobster Roll was severed with the more traditional cold lobster salad on top of a butter toasted split top hot dog bun. Funny that they serve such a luxurious delicacy atop a hot dog bun everywhere, but it works! The lobster salad itself was delicious. Very light with the mayo and a just a bit of celery. I washed my meal down with a local beer Called Newport Storm. The space is really cute for a bar and grill type of joint. I feel that they did a good job of making sure you new your were in Rhode Island when designing the space without making it touristy. The service was also good. If you are in New Port and are looking for a place that serves a solid lunch with good atmosphere than RIQC is a great option. 1 Stuffed Quahog 2 Lobster Rolls 2 Salads 1 Bowl of Chowder 1 Beer 2 Sodas — — — — — — — $ 92.00

3.5 stars if I could… I thought the food was rather good! We had oysters as an appetizer and a delicious clam chowder! Then on to my linguine and clams, really good, could have used a little more garlic and saltiness but otherwise great! Everyone loved their food, everyone cleaned their plates! Delicious!

Great location next to a bunch of other restaurants and easily accessible. You can sit outside and people watch, or inside with the dramatic high ceilings and dark wooden panels. The stuffed quahogs came out extremely hot! Very tasty. The lobster rolls were as expected with a heap of french fries on the side. Service was prompt.
