Food: 5, View: 4, Service: 1, Bathrooms: –100 The food was soooo good, we will be back. In spite of everything else that went wrong on our visit. Here is the good, the bad, and the ugly. The Food: The hubby and I shared a chowder sourdough bowl and the fish and chips(cod with upgraded garlic fries). OMG! This is the best chowder we have found in Newport. The clams were tender, deliciously creamy, light on the potatoes, and no bacon(yeah!). The sourdough bowl was splendidly crunchy on the outside and held up well to «spoon» the piping hot chowder. Mmmm. Order it! The fish and chips were very good and surprisingly unique. The hubby says, these are the best in Newport. I found the tartar sauce disappointing — why was it runny? But the Spicy Pub Sauce was delish. Especially with the AMAZING garlic fries! I swear, the garlic is still seeping from my pores, but holy moly, these are off the chism! If the owner or manager is reading this: please add breaded chicken wings, smothered in garlic(like your fries), to your menu. That would be heaven. And we would promise to visit every week ;) The Establishment: Great view. Glad we sat inside at a booth. The outdoor seating has the same view of the Sea Lions, but they are loud and stinky. We were able to carry on a conversation and enjoy the aroma of our food, while still marvel at the view from inside. The Service: It took 15 minutes for our server to even come to our table. We received an insincere apology for the wait from our young server. And we were neglected by her the entire visit. There was an older gal(owner? hostess?) that refilled our drinks. She saved our server. Having worked with the public, I know what it’s like to be busy… so I’m at least a 20% tipper. But you at least have to fake a bit of enthusiasm. The Bathroom: Generally, I don’t even mention bathrooms in my review. But since other Unilocalers have mentioned it, horror might be the norm. I visited the restroom on the way out — it was like a swamp, with standing water on the floor. Not one area of the floor. The ENTIRE floor. I was in flip flops and cringed through the whole experience. DISGUSTING. I’m even cringing while writing this now. Call it PBT. Post Bathroom Trauma. You’ve been fairly warned, my Unilocaler friends: do NOT enter the bathroom. Just hold it.

If you’re looking for Reasonably priced diner food, with sea lion viewing, this meets the need! The chowder was yummy and didn’t have bacon, which is a bonus for me, cause I don’t eat pork. Garlic fries were delish! Friendly service. Not fancy, basic. I was satisfied!

From the upstairs of this ragtag little bar and fried food emporium, you can enjoy good views of live sea lion wrestling on the floating docks below, and also drink one of the more unique bloody marys you will ever experience. They are a deep, dark red and pretty tangy and/or spicy, as if they were made with cocktail sauce, Worcestershire and tomato paste. I’m an onion ring fan, but the onion rings here were somewhere in the 25th to 50th percentile. Other highlights: friendly folks, and Black Sabbath & co. on the jukebox.

Understand that when you go to this place, you are there for the view, not the food, not the service and not the prices. I was there on a Saturday afternoon with my mother and aunt. We only chose this place because they had customer parking and the waterfront was packed with cars and people that day. As I said, the view is unbeatable, but we stood in the lobby without any of the waitstaff that passed back and forth by as much as acknowledging that they had noticed we were there. I lurked about the«please wait» sign for a good 10 minutes before one of the servers even acted like she knew we were there. Finally I asked one as she hurried past of we could sit upstairs. She said«Yes, you can sit upstairs all you want» as she blew by us. Half of the upstairs area is «self-serve» which means you have to go to the bar to place your order. The bartender was very nice and accommodating and was probably the best thing about the place. We saw her once again when she brought out our meals. Apart from that, since we were sitting in the self-serve section, she never came back to our table. If you have Celiacs or are otherwise gluten-free, there will be exactly one entrée you can order off the menu(short of ordering a sandwich or burger without the bun), the grilled fish plate. The menus that show on the websites for this place was not the menu I was handed to order from. The one I was handed had the usual battered and deep fried selections of seafoods. Be sure to ask them not to put croûtons on the salad, or the dinner roll on your plate, as they are both default. I had the grilled halibut. It was passable, a little dry, like maybe it was done fast and sat under the warming lamp a little while before they brought it, but it was not terrible. The salad was just iceberg lettuce, shredded carrots, one slice of cucumber and a slice of canned beet. The veg, whatever it was, was so unmemorable that today is the day after and I don’t recall what it even was. Maybe it was that slice of beet? I am not likely to go back there, as this place did not seem overmuch concerned with excellent customer service, food quality, or with retaining repeat business.

Wanted to try a new place on the Newport bay front, we Walked in to no hostess, but had to wait to be seated per the sign. The busboy finally came by to seat us 5 minutes after arriving. Server then showed up 10 minutes after we sat down to take a drink order. Drinks(non-alcoholic) took another 10 minutes to arrive after order was placed, then we had to ask for refills when the food arrived. Food took a very long time — over 30 minutes — and was really only mediocre. Sad, because the view is great. The true telling of this place was when the bus boy asked a server about the status of a table, her reply to him quite loudly«I don’t know nothing about nothing here». Not a good choice, should have waited the 30 –40 minutes for mo’s

The food was fine but the bartender who didn’t have the service skills to take a order made my whole visit terrible. The blonde server couldn’t figure out how to stop talking to her friend to take an order, even after looking at me directly in the face multiple times. Don’t know her name but she was working on Tuesday at 3, August 4th. Asked for water 4 times never got it and she was wearing the most inappropriate shirt with holes everywhere. She is hurting who’s ever business this is. As a restaurant owner I would fire her immediately

The food was ok, really basic bar food for really high prices, they had a couple local beers. But worst of all was the service. Stood at bar for probably 10 minutes waiting for drink. The bartender upstairs was very rude. When she brought our food she forgot everything that should have come with it(like forks for a salad) we asked for her to bring the standard stuff(like napkins and ketchup) and she just went back to the bar and talked to her coworker and she had an attitude when we went up to ask for the things we wanted. Just don’t go here, there are other places in Newport. If I could I would give them only a half star.

Came in with a group of 8 for a sitting in 30 min. Saw 6 empty tables, including large double booth and a group of 9 sitting at tables pushed together. Told they«don’t do large groups over 8». Pointed out the 9 sitting right behind the hostess table. She shrugged. Places was also dirty and had a weird smell… and not from the sea lions outside. Will never attempt to eat there again when visiting in the future!

Great Ambiance ! And Not Much Else, If Your In A Hurry For Lunch Ok. But If You Want To Sit Down And Enjoy A Seafood Meal… Think Again. Fettucini Was Under Cooked, Fish Pieces Were Palatable Yet Drowned In A Cold Sauce.

Walked in blindly — meaning I didn’t Unilocal first — so I was worried after reading the previous posts and the fact that it was empty but gave it a try anyway. So glad I did. There were 12 in our group and the service was outstanding! Everything we ordered was very tasty. The breaking was light and flavorful and the tartar was home made and some of the best I ever tasted. The service was comparable to any other restaurant I have been to, not bad and nothing worth writing home about. As for the flies, I can only say the restaurant is on the water and the door was open. Also, clean bathrooms and I am a bathroom snob. I would have to say that if I ever came to Newport again I would find this place worth the stop and would recommend it just the same

The service here sucks!!!, do not spend money here, there are several places on the bay front that appreciate your business and respect you. Do not spend money here, they need to go out of business. The place is dirty, looks like it has not been cleaned in years, the wait staff acts like you owe them a favor, you might as well serve your own drinks. I can’t speak for the food, I was too afraid to eat there, but hey, if your not afraid of food poisoning have at it. I only gave them 1 star because there was not a negative option.

AVOIDTHISPLACE! Just walking inside the lobby I was hesitant to stay. Bugs flying around everywhere. I wish I could give them a worse review this place is disgusting bathrooms are not cleaned what so ever. And our waiter the little blonde girl was not friendly she never tried to improve her customer service. We accidently spilled our water when she was taking our order and she was not going to bring us a towel to clean it up she completely ignored it. And when we asked for a refill on water she just filled the cup back up. The cup fell on the seat and we had to put the ice back in it. She seemed mad when we told her we need a new cup. And as we were walking out the guy has the nerve to say have a good day children. I AM A 20YEAROLDADULTWITHMYFIANCÉEANDDAUGHTER! that is extremely disrespectful. I will never go here again or recommend anybody to.

I give this place a 3.5 star for food and wait staff. We came here bc of the Sea Lions. My 5 year old daughter did not want to leave the dock so we went to Restruant. When u go in I would normally run away bc it was very run down and did not feel clean. I don’t mind run down but I want clean. My experiences with worn down places does not tell me how their food will be. Our waitress was nice and explained upfront that it was cold on patio and if we eat out there r food may get cold fast. I respect the upfront notification bc apparently ppl complain often enough about those things they blame it on them. Bc the Restruant was worn out I didn’t know how the food would be. I ordered a clam chowder and the shrimp loui salad. My very picky 5 year old stated it was really good! By the appearance of the chowder I was skeptical bc I don’t like thick mushy looking clump of soup. My daughter was so distracted by the Sea Lions she did not finish her soup. So I braved up the desire to take a bite. I was presently surprised by how tasty it was! WAY better then Moe’s which I don’t care for and my daughter did not like. I actually finished the bowl. I got my salad and was very happy with how fresh everything looked. Even the hard boil eggs were cooked perfect. The shrimp was very fresh! The ranch dressing was soooooo GOOD! Not sure if it was homemade, tasted like it was. The lettuce was fresh and all was very satisfying, worth the $ 13.50. I do think the prices are high but that’s bc the atmosphere is not clean and wore down so I think less expensive prices would be better. But maybe they need to charge those prices for rent? U can’t beat the view on the deck worth going to again!

Don’t waste your time… even if you are starving. The vodka soda was pure tonic water instead of club soda. The clam chowder was awful and the burger patty was so thin and literally crumbled apart as soon as I picked up the burger. The waitress asked me if the crab that they were out of was the kind of crab I asked for. How the hell would I know! There was hair in the razor clams batter. We left and didn’t pay per the waitress.

Would never go back to this place. Our waitress was the one who sat us down. She never introduced herself so we assumed she was the hostess. We waited for probably 10 minutes before she came back to take our order and drinks. This place was not busy. 4 other tables with 3 servers… Once we placed our order we waited for ONE hour to get our food. How long does it take to cook a burger and fried sea food? Seriously? Not only that but my husband had to go up to the counter to get a refill on his drink or risk waiting half an hour for the waitress to come back. This place is not managed at all. The waiters need training on how to be a good server and to go through a hygiene course(one server kept wiping his nose with his hand), and the cook needs to learn time management.

The restroom says a lot about a restaurant. There is just one for the large restaurant. If I had used the facilities before we ate we would have not stayed. I did not want to touch anything. The bathroom is old a has rust, but rust and cleanliness are very different. There was blood on the back wall close to the floor. This is beyond acceptable. Looked like it had been there a few days. Walking in around 4pm there was no one in the dining area. A sign read«Please be seated» No customers, no server. For a moment I wanted to leave. It was not inviting at all. My husband pointed to a table outside and I wondered how long it would be before someone would notice us. There was a large family at the end of the deck area and a gentleman having a beer. Someone must eventually come and check on them I thought. 5 minutes later a young lady came brought us menus. She was very friendly and service was timely. We shared a bowl of clam chowder which had a lot of potatoes, clams and the flavor was good. The steamed clams lacked some flavor. We also shared the seafood platter. It was typical fried seafood with fries. Some of it was quite greasy and the fried clams seemed dry and had more breading then the clams and they were the typical frozen product. I believe the cod and scallops were hand breaded in house. I do not think we will visit again.

Let me start off by saying, just because a place is «busy» does not mean it’s good. Also, just because they have an excellent view of the Sea Lions, does not make it good. We just finished the Aquarium and parked on the bay front and walked looking for somewhere to eat. We stumbled upon this place and we should have kept walking. The older lady, hostess, said all we have is a big booth and then walked by 2 empty tables. We asked for and took one of those. Our waiter Matt was new and told us so. He was very kind and kept apologizing. We liked his sense of humor. That was all that was good about the place. We sat there for 10 minutes before we had water and another hour before we got our food. My wife ordered Cod fish and chips and I ordered pan fried oysters. Both our meals we added the garlic fries instead of fries. The fish was excellent in her opinion. My oysters were soggy. He had to take my plate back because they forgot the garlic on the fries. The garlic was finely chopped fresh garlic and parsley. It was very strong. We like garlic, but this was a bit too strong. No complaints on it though, we did order it. After we were done eating the hostess told the servers that she had warned all the tables that the kitchen was bogged down. That was an understatement. I think there was only one guy in the kitchen. We had a pretty good view into the kitchen and we never saw anyone else but the one guy. The dazed look in the other waiter’s face seemed to be our topic of conversation for most of the hour we waited for our food. Overall we are not impressed.

Food was overpriced and the service was quite lacking for what they charged. Most of the food is fried, the ketchup bottles were fermenting. We did not have silver wear and our server just dumped a bunch of forks and knives in the middle of our table. We had to ask for plates for the appetizers and the sampler platter was basically a ton of everything fried to the hilt. This was my first and last visit.

Lunch and a show. Sea Lions sunning themselves in the marina, right beneath the patio dining, provide lots of entertainment with your meal. They are noisy and a bit uncouth but if you can get over that, worth your time. The food was good and we sampled the clam chowder(excellent), steamer clams(excellent), crab cakes(excellent), and a couple of sandwiches of the poultry variety(very good). Service was acceptable and the restaurant was clean, if a bit dated, if you aren’t afraid of décor, this is a great lunch spot.
