Everything our party got was wonderful — the spicy hot chocolate, the honey latte, and my London fog were all fabulous. We did not try any pastries or the other goodies, but I know I’ll be back. I loved the board game selection and cannot wait to come and try them all out over coffee. My only complaint — the light in the restroom must be on a timer. For about 60 seconds. If you’re in there any longer, it turns off until you wave your arms around the room. Probably should be fixed…

Psyched to find decaf cold brew iced coffee! Even more psyched when I paid just over 2 bucks for it and it was mighty tasty(I added my own coconut milk and stevia at our rental.) We were the only people in the café on a Saturday late morning but the two people working were friendly and the place was spotless. Certainly somewhere I’d hangout on a longer visit to Newport.

This is an earthy, comfy coffee shop in a town that does not have many of those. Everything I’ve had has been delicious, especially their cold brew, which makes me look forward to the hot weather. It’s a great place to sit and work for awhile; plenty of seating. The staff is friendly and knows what they’re doing. The only reason I give it 1 less star than a perfect score is that my favorite drinks are pricey, there is no water on tap, and there is only 1 hour parking(enforced) closest to the shop. However, I still highly recommend this joint.

This is one of my all time favorite places, ever. I have been trying to find a coffee shop in DC, where I live now, since I got there. Nothing compares. The service here is AMAZING, the tea selection is diverse and unique, the pastries are to die for, the coffee is excellent, and the prices are more than fair. The vibe here is unbeatable — relaxed, friendly, warm. I could go on for days. They give what I believe is a 15% discount on coffee/tea when you bring in your Empire Tea mug/to go cup. They also have free wifi with a great connection(something I’d like to point out that Starbucks is often lacking in). This is always the first and last place I stop while I’m in the area.

I love trying a new coffee spot! Lucky for me, Empire Tea and Coffee is located in downtown Newport, very close to Naval Station Newport! I’m a coffee snob who mostly drinks coffee black. Their house coffee tasted great black with no need to add anything to it. That’s a win in my book. The place is a nice size to definitely study in, which also is a huge bonus when trying to find a place that has free wi-fi, great coffee and also lots of snacks to eat. I would say that I had their pumpkin muffin, which was good, but not as moist as I would have liked. Customer service was very friendly and you can tell they really love what they do.

This place was meant for customers to stay a long time. Whether you’re grabbing coffee with a friend or setting up shop to work all day — or even setting up shop to put all the final touches on a big performance, full of papers, labels, t-shirts — this is a place you must try. (Last scenario is in reference to an actual group of 5 who had taken over a perfect area of the restaurant, though they seemed to bring in enough stuff for 20 people.) Anyway, there are some great tables in the back with large tables and many outlets. The lighting is great, and you can’t help but be productive. There are also some comfy chairs if you want to lounge a bit.

Cold brewed coffee and a pretty large seating area. Lots of people with laptops hanging out, eating pastries and drinking coffee.

I can’t begin to tell you how amazing this place is. I’ve vacillated between between the latte and tea selection and man no regrets ever. Mixed the flavors and ordered mint chocolate latte and had an amazing mâcha latte. Yum. I ordered the lattes ½ pumps of flavors as I do at Starbucks to keep sugar level down. Amazing spot to check out!

How can you guys make coffee that’s this bad from equipment that’s that good? You’ve got a Marzocco GS3 and a Mahlkonig grinder, but the two cups I’ve tried were awful. Are the beans three months old or something? Do you neither clean the equipment nor dial it in? The place is roomy, but filthy, and that’s in the middle of the morning. The Internet requires a login and password which is supposedly printed on the receipt; however, customers don’t get receipts because the payment system is electronic, via a tablet. I’ve tried the«small» and the«medium» cappuccino and the only difference was that there was more milk in the latter. Should really have an extra shot of espresso, won’t you agree?

The vegan banana blueberry muffin is quite possibly the best muffin I’ve ever tasted. I had to give my friend a bite so she would understand my ecstasy over a damn muffin, and I was reluctant to even give up that small bite. Mine! For the love of God, go here and get that muffin with an iced coffee and congratulate yourself on being Master of the Universe.

Love this place! Great specialty coffees and teas, with almond milk as an option too. The dirty chai with almond milk is ridiculously good!

The staff wasn’t the friendliest by any means. When I entered, I wasn’t greeted with a «hello» but rather by a stare. When I got up to the counter, I did get a small smile, however. When my drink was finished and the barista called it out, I replied with a «thank you» and received nothing, not even a smile in return. The Chai tea latte was pretty average and the brewed coffee had quite a few, large, grounds in it. I enjoyed the ginger scone that I purchased quite a bit. Overall, it’s a pretty average coffee shop.

Am I sure glad I found this coffee spot during my first trip to Newport. I returned this past week after barely tolerating the Starbucks brand coffee served at the Hyatt during a conference. There is almost nothing in the way of food and drink that can disappoint or delight me more than a cup of joe. I was thrilled to find it still operating and quite busy midday. After craving a café au lait all week, I headed back here on my way out of town and got my café au lait. It was perfectly crafted. I just love the vibe of this place too. It is definitely a hipster type place. Service is good. they’re young but no less skillful than your average barista at the chains. And they’re full of personality which is a nice added touch. The space is just terrific as you could laze here for hours taking in the atmosphere, people watching, reading whatever. Now if only they could open an Empire in my hometown… if only.

I am a huge Empire fan. All three shops are excellent. The Broadway store is a great place to settle in for the afternoon and get some work done. The coffee and tea is excellent and they have tasty treats in case you want a snack. There is plenty of room to find a place to yourself or to gather a group for coffee and conversation. There is free wifi from the register in case you need to be online. This is a great place to enjoy the day and have some excellent coffee!

Empire is simply the best coffee and tea house on island; arguably best in RI. The Good: Awesome staff. Wide and tasty selection of teas(ask for the tea menu), coffees, and brewing methods. Excellent espresso drinks. Very good baked goods(snacks) and sandwiches(actual food). Lots of chairs and tables, from comfy couches to large collaboration tables. Fireplace. 2 bathrooms. Free wifi. The Bad: Honestly not much. Limited street parking(park a few blocks over and walk). Sometimes I wished they opened at 5am vice 6am, and that they served breakfast sandwiches all day — only because they’re so damn good. But really, this is knit-picky stuff here. Empire is awesome. Empire is a great place because the owners and staff take every little expectation you may have for a good tea and coffee house, and effortlessly exceed them. Pro tip: Lychee Congou w/a ham egg and cheese on a honeywheat bagel. Varsity move: Cortado w/oatmeal cookie.

I like Empire because it’s the most straightforward coffee shop I’ve been to. By that i mean: They have coffee, good coffee, sweet sweet coffee. They have ample space to spread out and work. A small menu of yummy snacks. Free wifi. Basically everything a coffee shop should aspire to be, Empire knocks it out effortlessly. They don’t try to be hip, no frills, no «theme» simply good coffee, great atmosphere and the ability to be 100% productive. There’s tables meant for one or a group of 10, really nice move. But the BEST part is they have OUTLETSEVERYWHERE.

We stopped in after dinner at one of the neighboring restaurants. It is actually quite large, but there is a fireplace in the back making it cozy. My husband ordered the frozen hot chocolate and I ordered the mango bubble tea. We shared a slice of chocolate cake. The dessert options were limited and the expansiveness of the store took away from its charm and coziness. A little on the pricy side. More of a college hangout spot.

I had looked up a good coffee and tea place to go to before my first trip to Newport and Empire Tea and Coffee did not disappoint! I got a Café Mocha and I don’t like coffee too strong and I felt it was perfectly balanced and robust. The coffee was not overpowered by the mocha and mocha did not taste overly sweet. It was also served at a temperature that I could actually drink it quickly after ordering it. On the way out I also tried a dirty chai and a person new to tea I was impressed by how well the chai complimented the espresso. For a café it’s relatively quite and it’s larger than it appears on the outside with plenty of places to sit and enjoy the coffee and some board games with tables, chairs, and couches to choose from. AND there’s also a light bright table!

My favorite place to read, enjoy a coffee or tea, and get a snack in newport. The staff is great and it is the perfect place to read a couple chapters of a book while sitting on a couch and drinking a chai. There is free wifi, just stop by the register for the password. There are several outlets if your ireader runs out of juice ehile your there. They also sell items to help you brew at home. It’s a good place for groups and has a large room in the back. Random fact: there’s a light bright and board games if you partake. Recommendation: Two words: Lychee Congou. Get it, it’s great. It’s a black tea so there is caffeine, and it has a subtle fruit taste that I think is great.

If only I lived closer, this would be my go to study spot. I met up with a friend here early on a Saturday afternoon. We have no trouble finding a table big enough for two laptops and us to spread out notes. I grabbed a panini, made fresh to order, and a few teas. Their bubble tea and ice tea are both good. The panini was yummy, but nothing to write home about. This will definitely be my Newport destination in the future. The neighborhood is cute. The customers are not boisterous and there is plenty of seating. My only complaints: the wanna hipster baristers should not gossip about inappropriate things within earshot and the lack of a Providence location.
