I was wildly unimpressed. Service, to start was pretty bad. I walked in one day and the two women behind the counter didn’t even look up to acknowledge me. I left. I was back in the area the next day and my shop companion wanted a snack. So we went in and ordered 4 cookies and a cinnamon roll. I’m pretty sure the cinnamon roll was about 3 days old, and it left everything to be desired. I suggested we leave it for the birds. Cookies were meh. Skip it.

The place smelled like all the baked goods would’ve been amazing, but the cookies we had were hard, cold and barely edible. Very disappointing!

This is my favorite place since I was a kid. I grew up in Newport and now every time I visit I always stop in to the Cookie Jar for my favorite Oatmeal raisin cookies in the world. I don’t know what makes them so good, maybe a stick of butter in each cookie, who cares! They taste so good and they are making them nonstop so they are always warm. If you have kids and don’t take them here your not a as wonderful as my parents!

Stopped here b/c my daughter & I were craving something sweet after a(horrible) Mexican dinner next door at Diego’s. We got an Oatmeal Raisin Cookie & a Peanut Butter Cookie. Unfortunately the craving wasn’t satisfied… I think they forgot to add the sugar. Bland & Blah! Could’ve been great, but cookies need sugar or it’s called a biscuit.

Tucked between restaurants and shops we stumbled upon this little eatery on a rainy afternoon in Newport. The aroma from the baked goods was absolutely amazing. We purchased 6 cookies for about $ 10 and they were relatively small. So, not the best deal. I tried the butterscotch cookie and it was good. Personally, I love soft cookies, so I was a little disappointed when I took a bite and they were crisp. I also tried a bite of chocolate chip and an oatmeal raisin chip. They were good but not amazing. I don’t think I’d recommend this shack for sweets.

Had a cinnamon raisin bagel here and it was the best cinnamon raisin bagel I’ve ever had! The inside is packed full of cinnamon sugar and it’s delicious!

The ginger snap cookie was so good I had to get another one! very flavorful! The peanut butter cookies were fluffy but did not have as much peanut butter flavor as my husband and is Nana would have liked.

Literally THEBEST cookies i’ve ever had in my life. And that says a lot because I am quite the cookie snob. Don’t listen to the negative reviews! The staff are friendly and the treats are delicious! I bought an assortment of cookies, however I recommend the coconut macaroons, ginger snap and peanut butter ones. Chewy, moist and delicious(and fresh days later!). It’s really a no-brainer. Try any of their cookies and you’ll be glad you did!

My fiancé & I stopped here during our Newport walk because we were craving something sweet. We picked up a couple of chocolate chip cookies & one oatmeal cookie. We had passed the store before, and the smell was irresistible. It was a touch expensive for three cookies, so we had high hopes. He grabbed a chocolate chip, and I took the oatmeal. A couple of bites in, we realized that the cookies were soft, fresh, very sweet, and BUTTERY. The decadence was overwhelming. Way too rich for our tastes! We couldn’t even finish the third cookie. Womp.

We had 3 each of chocolate chip, peanut butter chocolate chip, the M&Ms, and the coconut macaroon cookies. The kids weren’t lured by the oatmeal cookies, or the other offerings. The cookies were A-OK, soft and chewy. The size was fine and I mean given it’s location I thought the price was also acceptable. The M&M were rather blah, the chocolate chip ones were a bit too sweet, the peanut butter chocolate chip were good, and the coconut macaroons were the right amount of sweet. However, the taste was comparable to me just making them at home. Nothing that stood out for a place called the Cookie Jar. But when touring a city and having kids with you that really want cookies it wasn’t a bad option. However, for the amazing smells that were generated I was a bit disappointed that the cookies weren’t warm, and just in baskets in a Plexiglas covered shelf. The employees there were very into just getting us out the door. Being there with two kids with their noses pressed to the Plexiglas in excitement the employees’s attitudes was a stark contrast.

I didn’t get to try the cookies which looked and smelled great, but for breakfast, it was just ok. The line was fairly long due to the speed of service which was glacial. The staff was super friendly, but so much so that it meant everyone had a 5 minute conversation before moving to the next person in line. The pastries were good, but a bit too doughy and the ham and cheese didn’t really stand out. The coffee was fairly mediocre. Unharmed to add sugar and milk which I normally don’t to enjoy it. I loved the small town feel.

Stopped here after lunch… for a cookie and found big round coconut macaroons. I admit I am a snob about coconut macroons. This is just a tiny shop with glass fronts to look at choices. Keep in mind this is a tourist destination and when in a tourist destination keep some expectations low. A little shop like this makes it on volume more than repeat business and a plethora of bakeries give people lots of choices. Wasn’t paying attention to the service or the coffee, but my cookie definately wasn’t the worst I ever had. Flour-y for my taste. But that’s me.

UGH. The employees here were so snooty. ALSO, it was $ 2.75 for a coffee, and the coffee was DISGUSTING. I couldn’t put my finger on what it was that was so nasty, but I had to load it up with sugar and cream to make it not taste like crap. Also, the cookies are really expensive and small. I think it was like $ 1.25 for ONE cookie and it was tiny. The cookie I got wasn’t even soft and gooey. It was hard and crunchy. Don’t waste your money here.

This is one of the few shops in Newport that’s been around since I was a kid and I always try to stop in when I’m in the area. It never changes, except the prices!!! Small variety of cookies. I believe they had Chocolate chip, peanut butter chocolate chip, Gingersnap, Oatmeal butterscotch, and Snickerdoodle. I saw Bagels, muffins and cinnamon rolls in another case, as well as coconut macaroons, brownies and a shortbread cookie in a different section. My friend and I were the only ones in there besides the very helpful girl who was working. We chose a peanut butter chocolate chip, snickerdoodle and Oatmeal Butterscotch. All 3 were excellent although the peanut butter one could have had a bit more peanut butter taste. They were all fresh and tasted like they’d been baked that day, or the day before at the latest. They also have coffee and a cooler with soda and juices in it. Customer service was excellent as always!

Overpriced and you could make better from scratch or box at home. These are not mixed right; not cooked evenly; stale; too much butter; there’s an unidentified lingering taste – sort of like a rancid chemical sludge.

The smell of cookies lures you in. You can’t resist. Even if you weren’t craving a cookie beforehand, you will after you smell it. I always think that I want it, until I have it. It would be good if the cookies they served you were warm, or fresh, but not once have I ever had a cookie that tasted like it came out of the oven that day. The cookie and flavor itself isn’t bad, but for a place that ONLY sells cookies, you would expect them to be oven hot and fresh.

The smell of cookie draws you into the store. The cookie is just ok. I bought three and they were a bit hard. Not sure if they were stale or just cold because of the weather. I asked if they served hot chocolate and they do! But its just regular Swiss Miss hot chocolate that they charge $ 2+ for. I thought I was getting local goodies but skip this place and go straight to the coffee grinder down the way. or to the starbucks.
