So myself, husband and daughter ate here for lunch one afternoon and upon entering, my husband asks, «Do we seat ourselves?» Bwaaaahhaahaaa, that was just so hilarious to me. Like, dude you’re at a plaace called Skrimp Shack. Lol. Anyway, spent $ 47 so maybe we should have had a hostess and server. I almost passed out. The lady taking orders was very nice and helpful being that it was our first visit and food came out quickly. Hubby ordered a whiting sandwich with sweet potato fries and it was sooo big. It had close to 6 pieces on it. He literally had to take some of it off. Which is a waste. Ordered the shrimp and crabmeat po boy. Another pretty nice serving. I ordered mine with the spicy sauce and it wasn’t spicy at all, and it was a little too creamy and sweet for me. The mac and cheese was not homemade, but they dont claim for it to be. Tasted like Stouffers which I do like if not homemade. I may give this place another shot, but Im definitely not going to be breaking the doors down.

Found this place while vacationing in Williamsburg on Unilocal and this place did not disappoint The food here was awesome and portion were large, but it was reasonable priced! While our food was being made fresh, I could tell this was the local seafood spot! The place was jumping with to go orders and I know why We had the shrimp for the family and catfish nuggets, and this easily feed my family of three! The shrimp were large and fried to perfection, and the nuggets were cooked perfectly as well! We liked how the food was not overly greasy like some places are with fried seafood! This place we will visit again in the future for sure!

The shrimp and crab meat po boy does not disappoint! It’s jammed full of shrimp and the secret sauce is delicious! I couldn’t finish the whole thing even though I wanted to! Hush puppies, green beans, and Mac are some great sides to accompany any meal. So happy to hear there are more locations popping up everywhere on the peninsula and the south side!

I’ve passed by this restaurant on several occasions and in search of good lunch food in my area– this restaurant popped up on the list. The servers were friendly, the food came out fast and all was delicious! We will be back.

MANNNNN this place is SO good! I had the shrimp & fish basket with fries as my side. (think it was abt 7.00 which is quite reasonable if you are familiar with Annas or Martins) SOSOGOOD& The portion was huge for the price! It came with two large pieces of whiting(you can choose a couple different types of fish) and 4 big shrimp. The batter was perfectly seasoned and the meat was too. I had whiting and didnt find one bone(though if I had it wouldnt have been their fault) the shrimp were HUGE! my friend kept laughing at me bc i kept calling them prawns, but seriously they were so big. only thing i didnt like was the homemade sauce they have, needs work. will be back again and again and again!

Having family that lives in the south right on the Gulf of Mexico raises one’s bar when it comes to fresh seafood. Maybe that’s what raised my expectations so high with this venue. I ordered the famous Shrimp Po-Boy. Was it Orleans fresh? No. Was it good, absolutely. So, if you’re expecting a replica of New Orleans, not gonna happen. I doubt(but it could be possible) the shrimp and fish supplied to this venue comes in fresh off the dock EVERYDAY. That’s what I expect when I order my Po-boy’s down south. I can’t compare the two. I can say however that this venue puts out some damn good food though! My sandwich had some perfectly cooked(fried) shrimp. Not a bit over or under cooked. Plump and juicy. I was disappointed not to have any tomato on my sandwich, just lettuce and the sauce of my choice. The Po-Boy’s are on the pricey side paying roughly $ 10.00 for an 8 inch sandwich. But the taste is there. The service is there too. Fast and friendly. I was surprised at how busy this place was just after the rush hour. The majority of patrons were there for take-out or pick-up orders. Two couples were dining in in the quaint but small dining spaces. I’ll have to try some other fried options here. I’m glad they stood this venue up in the Denbigh area! Thanks.

I was happy to find this place on Unilocal.I had previously only known about the location over on George Washington. The shrimp are just as good on this side of town. The dining area isn’t much to look at, but that’s not the draw here. The shrimp will make your day. They’re crispy and crunchy on the outside and the shrimp are fresh and juicy. Get a side of poboy sauce for dipping for 50c. You can carry out, but I find the shrimp are most delicious right out of the fryer. Dining in, they’ll give you one(?) refill on your soft drink(that was plenty of soda anyway, weird). I did enjoy this place.

The skrimp po boy with crab meat was good, but heavily drenched in dressing. Less dressing would have made the bread less soggy. The fries were a little bland, but the prices were fair for the meals we ordered.

I decided to try this place after seeing all of the wonderful reviews. When I first walked in I was greeted by a warm smile at the counter, she was very patient with me since I had no idea what I really wanted lol. I decided on the shrimp and crabmeat po boy mild, which came out about 7min after I ordered. The first bite was magical. The shrimp was plump and the crabmeat and sauce was flavorful. All of it was served hot on a roll which was soft and also warm. I will definitely come back next time I’m in the area.

I went here today as a recommendation of some salesman at Pearson Toyota! It was amazing! I will definitely be back! Even though I live in VB, it won’t stop me from coming up here. There was a line but the employees got the line quickly done and the food was super hot and tasty. I got the Skrimp and Catfish Po Boy. Mmmmmm good.

One of the best local spots for seafood on the go, whatever you pick you can’t go wrong. Takeout or sit in whatever you preference. If you sit your food is brought to you after you order at the counter. Always busy at lunch so get there early.

Tried this place out for first time upon a coworker’s recommendation. I have to say, they were superb. The staff were awesome and genuine. The food amount and quality were great. I had their catfish nuggets with sweet potato fries. I was in heaven. Restroom was clean. They are reasonably priced.

Came in on advice of friend, so glad I did. Generous portions of «skrimp» and fish makes it hard to finish but impossible to put down. Everything was perfectly cooked and freshly made. Best hushpuppies in the area. Will definitely be back.

My first time visiting Newport News. I read several reviews of possible seafood places. I did not want the Red Lobster experience. I wanted a place the locals frequent. This location, while on a main drag, was a simple strip mall location. The parking lot was full of local patrons. I knew I made a good choice. The menu was simple and easy to understand. Others have commented on that so I won’t bore you with overkill. The cashier was the star of the whole operation. She was all smiles, not pushy or trying to up sell me. When I told her it was my first time visiting, she was still all smiles and thanked me for stopping by to visit. Nice. Did not expect that. Even when I tried to order more tarter and cocktail sauce, she encouraged me(and let me sample) the po-boy sauces, both hot and mild. I went with one of both. I ordered the skrimp and fish dinner. I chose whiting for my fish and green beans for my side. I ordered a side of Mac and cheese to go with. I received probably 10 or more plump good size shrimp and maybe 5 – 7 pieces of fish. All the seafood was fresh, not inundated with batter, and was very tasty. The beans were ok — nothing especially remarkable about them. The Mac and cheese however was tasteless and by far was the worse part of the meal. It was enough to slip this place down to 4 stars. I saw the fries and they looked really good, but I had enough fried food on my plate. Perhaps another time. Overall I was pleased with my meal. Ample portions. friendly help, and just good food at reasonable prices. Next time I might go for the skrimp and crab po-boy. It looked insane. Beware, the hot po-boy sauce kicks, but it is heat with flavor so it is all good. By the by, «skrimp» is not a misspelling. It is in the restaurant’s name and menu items.

The parking lot was packed when I arrived at 12:47& the line was almost out the door. I ordered by 12:59& had food by 1:09. Overall, 22 minutes in and out the door with my food. I had never been there so I tried the shrimp & crab meat PO boy recommended by a fellow Unilocal reviewer. I made it a combo to include green beans & a soda. I also wanted to try some Mac & cheese & a bowl of clam chowder. When I got home I realized I rcvd a cup size soup instead of the bowl size I had paid a $ 1 extra for. Next time I’ll check my order before leaving. The large drink size is what most restaurants would consider a small but it was only $ 1.59. The small is about the size of a coffee cup for $.80. My sandwich was good. The bread was soft and they advertised fresh baked. The shrimp were a good size and lightly breaded which I liked. Plenty of crab meat on top. The Mac & cheese was creamy & was made out of ziti & elbows so I’m guessing it was also made in store. Its no Stouffer’s but more creamy than kraft deluxe. The green beans were standard southern style with pork and kinda smokey flavored. The clam chowder was also good but could have used a little more seasoning for my taste. I definitely ordered too much food for lunch. The restaurant was clean and had enough seating during the lunch rush. Its not a sit down & a waitress takes your order place. You order at the counter & take a seat until your # is called. The staff is friendly & you can clearly see everything happening in the kitchen. Overall, the shrimp & crab po boy sandwich was the highlight & I’d go back to try it again. It is not the place to go if you are watching your waistline or eating low fat. Everything is fried. I didn’t see any broiled or steamed options on the menu. Also, no salads on the menu.
