Finally, no OST or TST this week! However, it took until the 1st of March to make this happen. We only planned on having pancakes and bacon here. However, after scanning the menu we wanted more options, and opted for the Sunday breakfast buffet($ 55) sans mimosas. I tried the prime rib, bacon, Italian spicy sausage, chicken apple sausage, breakfast pizzas, smoked salmon, pancakes, and strawberry shortcake. In addition, there was a omelette station, granola, cheeses, waffles, french toast, potatoes, bagels, and pastries. To drink, there was the regular stuff, but also watermelon juice. My faves were the prime rib, breakfast pizza and watermelon juice. The prime rib came w/crisped onions that added a nice touch. The pizza had a fried egg on each piece. Lastly, the grill has a fantastic view of the pool as well when you eat outside. Everything else was very good including the service from Angelica. The only room for improvement would have been some Azn dishes & one mimosa for the price. There seemed to be a fair number of Azn guests. If you are looking for a nice place for I daresay Sunday Brunch, The Coliseum Grill fits the bill. Yes, its a little pricey, and excluded bottomless mimosas. However, its at the luxurious Pelican Hill Resort, the food and service are very good, and Newport Coast is right around the corner!

Definitely my favorite spot in Newport! 5 Stars all the way. This restaurant is surrounding the pool so you get amazing views of the pool, ocean views, and views of the golf course. Their menu is on their website so you can check it out before you come(I found that helpful). I usually always get a latte with whatever I order because they make the best latte in Orange County hands down. Always good service and beautiful presentation of the food. I highly recommend this place.

Beautiful large pool with tons of chairs to hangout at. The food and drinks are done very well. The staff was good not great. they need a little work on customer service.

Beautiful scenery, ok food, ok service. This place is very hit or miss with the servers. The menu is average, nothing is terrible and nothing is memorable. The views are amazing.

My husband and I came here for our Valentines date. It was initially a little hard to find because the resort is so big but we asked for directions and we were offered a free shuttle to the restaurant. The hostess was incredibly friendly and sat us right away at a table with an amazing view. The service was great. We had complementary bread and butter and we ordered the Indian chicken curry and Thai beef pasta. The Indian chicken curry was lacking flavor(we both love tons of spice) but the Thai beef pasta was definitely saucy and flavorful. The setting was so exotic looking that you forgot where you were! It was the perfect setting for a special occasion. I would highly recommend it if you want a memorable night.

Our first time at this resort, over all it’s fine but when you get steered to a restaurant by the front desk that serves brunch and then you find out they don’t, it’s disappointing.

My boyfriend took me here for my 20th birthday and it was sooooo pretty. The menu is pretty small and limited. I got their Rosemary chicken. It was good but not the best. The cranberries kind of threw me off and I thought the whole thing was a little on the sweet side for me. My boyfriend got the Thai fettuccine with angus beef and that one was really good. I would recommend that one. My waiter Stephen was soooooo nice and attentive. They gave me a blanket when we decided to go sit closer to the pool! Really nice. The pool lights up at night and the terrace and it really lives up to their coliseum name as they have the beautiful pillars. The only thing was that at night they gave one candle to light up the table but it was still really dark. Romantic. But still dark. I could barely see my food. But romantic haha. Another thing is that they have complimentary valet parking that was pretty nice. This place is more for the views and the scenery and not really for the food. A great place if you wanna take someone on a date. Just a little pricey. They also gave me a free glitter lemon cake for my birthday with a little candle. Super cute. Super delicious.

Absolutely gorgeous place with beautiful scenery of the manicured golf course, pool and ocean. Excellent service as always of all the staff of Pelican Hill Resort. Very nice breakfast with Belgian waffles with berries and blueberry pancakes. They made green juices for us on request which was super nice of them. Overall great experience in this fantastic resort.

Absolutely breathtaking view. Coliseum Pool & Grill surrounds Pelican Hill’s stunning infinity pool which is the perfect setting for both lunch and dinner. Beyond the infinity pool, the restaurant overlooks the luscious green golf course and beautiful views of the ocean. For warmer, sunny days, there is outdoor dining including private cabanas But for those colder winter nights, they have an indoor dining area and heated terrace. Coliseum Pool & Grill prides itself on sourcing produce locally from the Irvine Ranch. I got to enjoy some appetizers on a December evening after visiting the spa and it was the perfect ending to the night. Tempura shishito peppers & shrimp: not my favorite but I’m not a big fan of friend food anyways. the shrimp was pretty tiny but the shishito peppers were good. My co worker was silently dying inside because she bit into 2 very spicy peppers. I thought they tasted kind of sweet! Served with sweet chili aioli sauce Duck Confit Quesadilla: generous amounts of duck confit wedged in between a quesadilla with gooey warm mozzarella cheese and mango and papaya salsa. This dish is pretty heavy so it’s perfect to share with the table Lobster Mac and Cheese: I knew this dish would be a winner from the moment I saw the menu. Of course it was not as delicious as Mastro’s signature dish but it was still good to me! BBQ chicken flatbread: eh. Not the best. The BBQ sauce lacked flavor. Cobb Salad: I was obsessed with this dish! And I usually don’t order Cobb salad. Tuscan Caesar Salad: came with piquillo peppers, sun dried tomatoes, artichokes and kalamata olives I was pretty impressed with the salads! I’m not usually a fan of salads at restaurants but the ingredients for both salads tasted so fresh. Sweet potato fries: always a table favorite :) crispy and generous amounts of fries for all. I would come here just for the beautiful view!!!

Visited for a friends birthday lunch. My husband and I had the hamburger with a side Caesar salad. Both were pretty good. I also had a vanilla latte which absolutely amazing. They had almond milk which was really nice because I rarely come across a restaurant that serves almond milk. The real treat here is the view of the pool and Newport coast. It’s beautiful! They offer complimentary valet. Very special spot to celebrate a special occasion.

Loved the atmosphere, came around 8.30 on a Thursday night… Definitely a cute date spot! Feels like I’m out of the country. Our waitress was Shelly, she always had a smile on her face, and was very patient with my particular eating pace(which was slow as heck tonight, hehe!). Anyways, couldn’t have asked for more, though I’m sure if I had, it would have been provided :) Enjoy the views and food here at Coliseum Pool & Spa

Ate brunch here this morning — food is good, decent prices and the view is exceptional. The service was just ok as we had to ask for water refills numerous times. My family and I ordered numerous items such as the breakfast burrito, frittata, lobster scramble & steak and eggs and we were all pleased with the portions and quality. The Bloody Mary bar is also a nice touch for a Sunday morning brunch!

The Coliseum is one of our go to restaurants. At the Pelican Hill Resort, the restaurant has one of the best views and ambience in OC. You have a view of the large infinity pool below and the Pacific Ocean. So 5 stars for all that. As for food it’s solid and I’d give 4 stars. Ask for the pretzel bread. There’s a charge but worth it. Their Chicken Shish Kebab is one of my favorite. Calamari is always good.

Reservations — I would highly recommend making a reservation before arriving to avoid waiting. On a sunny day this place can get pretty busy and you could wait for awhile. It’s also worth it to sit outside on the patio so you can soak up the sun and enjoy the pool view. Parking– Complimentary valet provided in front of the coliseum pool and grill and also in front of the main lobby. The hotel is a little confusing so I ended up valeting in front of the main lobby which was fine because I was able to explore the hotel a little bit. You can catch some great views of the golf course as you walk through the hotel. Food — I ordered the Fish Tacos($ 20) and they were not that great. The fish had a fishy smell and some portions of the fish was very rubbery. The good news is that they bring out popcorn and bread to munch on while you wait for your food. I didn’t return my food because I was starving and don’t like to complain, but I probably wouldn’t order them again. I took one star off for the food. I was here celebrating my birthday so I received a free cake(I posted a pic) but we chose not to order from the flight of desserts. Service — The service was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. She even offered to take our group photos for us. The hostess was also extremely friendly. The staff is all dressed in uniform which is helpful if this place is busy. View — Breathtaking and amazing views. This is pretty much what you are paying for here. Attire — You can dress casual if you like or dress up. Most guests there were dressed summer casual.

I usually go to Pelican Hill for one reason and that is to go spotting for exotic cars. Today I came for lunch with a girlfriend and I’d say the food was just as good as Mariposa at Fashion Island. My friend had the Turkey Burger with added avocado & truffle fries. I don’t think she finished her burger because it was too big, her fries were really delicious. The truffle was pretty strong but even after I finished my plate, i still kept eating her fries. I had the Thai fettuccine pasta with mushrooms and beef, this was slightly spicy — but it was quite perfect for my taste. I would recommend this dish! We ordered drinks, I had the Green Dream(sour & limey but refreshing as an ice princess), my friend had the strawberry mix(don’t remember the proper name) — it was under the non-alcoholic beverages and that was sweeter than chocolate at Godiva. Our waiter was extremely nice and friendly that I couldn’t take him seriously lol. But the service was great, the view was beautiful, and I really enjoyed my meal outdoors by the pool! We racked up to about $ 90 total, including tip. Pricey but I would still come back, and I will definitely come during brunch!

We went here for lunch this week and it was good. We started with the hummus which was wonderful. I had the bbq chicken pizza and my husband had the burger for entrees. 4 stars because it didn’t seem worth the price, but the food and service were good. Also — there is a giant TV! Great for game watching it seemed.

So far been there twice and I have to admit the view is nice on a clear day and the service you get is amazing. But you pay for the view thats forsure. Breakfast burrito is $ 16 and their steak and egg and lobster scramble is $ 22. I was going to do a breakfast buffet but they dont have lot of selection for costing $ 55 a person. Majority of the drinks(coffee, juice, and tea) are $ 5 and there is usually a wait during weekend especially on sunday. Valet is complimentary from the hotel. There are multiple places you can park. Self parking is also available and main estate also offers valet service in front. All the workers are uniformed with work clothes for servers and at the front the workers are dressed up in business attire. Salt water pool is huge and during summer they get packed. You can rent a bungalow for daily use if you want to take your family out for swimming. If not pool is restricted to guests only. They have someone by the stairs to check your room number before you can make it down to the pool.

Sunday sunset dinner reservation here was excellent. Patio seating, beautiful view, not crowded, perfect climate, great food, a visit from the chef, and a beautiful sunset with the prettiest wife. We had appetizers of seared ahi tataki on cucumber slaw, crab cake and also marinated mushrooms & olives. Entrees of filet mignon and fresh halibut. Dessert was quadruple gelato. Chocolate strawberry pistachio & vanilla. All perfect.

I was told by someone who frequents Pelican Hill often that the Coliseum Pool & Grill is the most affordable of the three restaurants on the premises. This makes it a great opportunity to soak up the majestic view of the golf course and more apparent is the massive circular pool. You can ask for a table outside with the view too. Most things on the menu are slightly higher in price. The Crab and Shrimp cocktail that comes with two crab claws and two shrimps all on a bed of mixed greens was alright($ 15) We also had the fries which you can have them split half/half into sweet potato fries and garlic fries($ 10) Finally, they list lemonade($ 5) on the menu but you can ask for a strawberry lemonade from the bar. Felt a lot like the Venetian in Vegas. The service was really good when we went. Great for drinks, appetizers, and a view.

Good meal, very nice view, romantic spot for dinner! We decided to try this place during Newport restaurant week and take advantage of the $ 40 three course dinner menu. There was several choices and all were very appetizing. We arrived and valet parked our car. The restaurant is tucked towards the back of the resort on the second level over looking the round pool that was lit and glowing at night. We were seated on the outside patio with heaters to keep my buns warm. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. Neither of us were very hungry so we shared a 3-course meal. The kitchen was nice enough to split our entrée onto 2 separate plates! Major props! Our drinks were refilled and our waiter came back often to check on us. Overall a great experience! Definitely recommend!
