I stumbled across the Newport Pita Pit quite by accident — but it was a beautiful accident; I became a fan of Pita Pit in college and it’s had a soft spot in my heart(and my stomach) ever since. Back when I went to UCSB we had one take root right near my apartment in Isla Vista. Needless to say, I quickly became a regular and had way too much fun getting creative with my pita. Now that I’m a little older and stuck in my ways, I have a definite«go-to» pita — the Philly Cheese Steak, loaded with cucumber, tomato, lettuce, sprouts, cheddar cheese, onions, mustard and tzatziki sauce. Nom!

Just finished eating my pita sandwich and it wasn’t that great… :( I love gyros, shawarmas(arabic version of gyro on pita bread), so i was really hoping this place would be good. The sandwiches are around $ 7.00 each with meat. A dollar less for a veggie sandwich. I ordered sandwiches for the office. They came an hour and twenty minutes later. I was glad they deliver, but bummed later when I tried it. Doesn’t matter that they deliver since we probably wont order from here again. The sandwiches were small for $ 7. They weren’t very generous with the toppings at all. The seasoned beef was a little tooo seasoned(way too much salt). The hummus sucked… :(Overall, I probably wouldn’t come here again. Maybe my expectations are too high because my go to place for pita sandwiches is Zankou chicken and for under $ 6.00 with loads of meat, the price and taste is remarkable! amazing! cant be beat. My coworkers agreed that the food wasn’t good.

This is a decent place for a quick bite. It’s like Subway, only with pitas. There are a lot of meat options as well as standard Greek-style vegetarian options, such as falafel, hummus, or baba ghanouj. Once you pick your protein, it’s cooked on a grill(if needed) and then you get to choose veggie toppings and sauces. Some of the toppings, like avocado, cost extra, but that is clearly noted on the menu. I had a falafel sandwich with hummus, tzatziki, and plenty of veggies. The falafel, while not the best ever, was pretty good for a fast food place. I also got a free drink from the Unilocal check-in offer. The only drawbacks to this place are a potential lack of parking(we went late, so it wasn’t a problem) and that it seems to be a hangout for the local young’uns, which might be a turnoff if you’re not in that category(get off my lawn!). Otherwise, it’s pretty good for a quick, cheap meal.

My boyfriend and I eat here often and we always enjoy it. There are many different options and the ones that we’ve tried have always been good. Nice healthy alternative to fast food or pizza when you don’t feel like cooking. The staff is friendly and will load up your pita with all the veggies you want.

I am a huge Greek food fan, so when I see the words«pita» or «olive», I automatically stop. I’ve tried Hot Pita in Fullerton, no thanks and Olive Pit in Brea, yes please! So, after just moving down to the peninsula in Newport, I kept driving by this place and knew I must try it. To my surprise, it’s not really a typical Greek place as I’d expected. It’s more of a Subway, but with Pita instead of bread. The protein options are miles above Subway in flavor, the pita is huge, and the veggie/sauce options are plentiful. I enjoyed my dinner very much. Only drawback, the workers were young and not that into their jobs. I don’t blame them, I’m sure they’d rather be at the beach. So they kind of acted like I was a moron when I asked if the Chicken Souvlaki came with tzatziki on it. It was my first time there, how was I to know it was Subway-style where you stand there and point out all the toppings you want? So, with better customer service I’d rate this place higher.

Yummy in my tummy! I came here for the first time the other day and I was impressed by their out-of-the-box approach to greek food. You basically get to build your own pita and then it’s wrapped up to-go like a sandwich. I ordered their gyro pita, and then piled on hummus, feta cheese and lots and lots of veggies. If you’re smart about what kind of sauces/dressing you order, it’s a healthy place to go for lunch that isn’t just a traditional sandwich or salad. I just wish they had some Greek sides to compliment my pita. The employees are all pretty young, so don’t expect to be treated like royalty. I was feeling the trendy, surfer vibe inside and the food tasted delicious and filling. I will definitely be back for more lunch-time visits!

The boyfriend and I come here often when we’re not in the mood to cook but want to eat healthy. It helps that they’re open pretty late(11pm) during the week. I usually always get the Light Aloha and am never disappointed. Yesterday we tried the«Mark Special» because we were extra hungry and it had double the serving of chicken and it was SO good. Loved it. I just wish there was a Pita Pit a tiny bit closer to us since we live closer to South Coast Plaza. All in all, it’s WAY better than Subway and definitely worth the 2 extra bucks and the drive. Plus they aren’t skimpy with the sides and you can pick as many as you want.

This place is great! I eat here a lot– and it’s quick, easy and healthy. I usually get the philly cheese steak pita– which I think is the most healthy meat you can get. Just tell them no sauce– cause that adds a lot of fat/calories. You can add all the veggies you want– or make it a salad. They also have a great website that helps you build your own wrap and shows you all the nutritional content.

Went for the first time yesterday, and I enjoyed my pita sandwich. I got the chicken souvlaki and I have to say, it was really tasty! The yogurt sauce was really good. But I have to agree with others, that you should pay at the end(in case you decide you want avocado, or whatever), and that I did leave feeling a little hungry still. I had frozen yogurt from next door afterwards. I do like the do-it-yourself style like subway. And they wrap those suckers up pretty good, so there’s no mess! Overall, pretty good. Next time I’d like to try a breakfast pita.

Ok I just went there this afternoon for the first time, I was the only customer there, I look thru their menu and decided to get ther philly steak pita, the guy told me it’s pretty much like Subway but better. The girl who prepared my pita was her 1STDAY working there so everything was new to her, the guy there was guiding her how to prepare the pita along the way. My pita was actualy her 2ND she ever made. I would say the pita was OK, it wasnt enough meat to fill me up, probably she only put down a small amount of meat to cook them, I wasnt feel very full afterward. I could have went to subway and gotten myself a foot long for the same price. I had to go to Taco Bell to get their $ 5 Big Box Meal to fill me up. =-) Overall, I will give this place a second try, just as long as someone who is experienced making my pita.

I go here quite a bit, they just added a Unilocal check in for a $ 5 pita, of course I didn’t see it til I was done eating. I also see that you when you leave a review you get a free pita! Free pita me please! I had chicken, mushrooms, & onions on the grill with melted cheese, it was yummy! It kinda fell apart at the end and you don’t get plates so I had kind of a mess. I think they should give plates to messy people like me who are dining in. :) They also didn’t have any straws. :(I sipped my pop from the cup but when I took it with me in my car I felt like I was going to spill on my car. I got my email for my free pita, woohoo! Make sure your settings allow for managers to contact you! :)

I’ve been to the pita pit in San Diego and I did like it, but I DEFINITELY like this one better. The entire experience was BETTER and it was good in San Diego, so it was GREAT at the Newport location. The staff were awesome, we even tipped them a few dollars. They were funny, friendly and they made some awesome pitas. My 3 girlfriends and I went there this weekend and were definitely impressed. I ordered the Souvlaki chicken pita, and it was great. The ability to choose your own ingredients and it NOT be subway is definitely awesome! The ingredients were fresh, crunchy spinach, good tasting tzatziki, There’s a large variety of ingredients to choose from and it’s about $ 9 for a combo. YES pricier than subway, but EVERYTHING is, lets admit it. For being a «chain» they make damn good hummus.

This place surprised me. I had an attack craving for falafel and this was the first place the popped up on Unilocal,so I went. They make everything fresh — comparable to a Subway where you can see they’re doing behind the counter and you basically customize your order. I ordered extra pita bread, hummus, and baba ganoush — oh man, there was a party in my mouth. Love the falafel, love it all. Most of all, I loved the freshness. Made such a difference, and I also loved how all the pita in my order was served warm — THAT makes a a difference! The server was friendly and helped me order, as it was my first time there, and I was happy to satisfy my falafel craving in such a pleasant way. Though not the most authentic, definitely a good quick fix.

It’s all about the Chicken Slovaki, probably spelled it wrong, but honestly the best! I get take out from here, probably once a week. I love the quality of the ingredients, staff is great, location is great(it’s on the way to my home) and of course the food is tasty. They deliver within the Peninsula, yay! This place is a great alternative to the other unhealthy choices on Balboa

At 240p in Newport on a Saturday in May, it wasn’t as traffic congested as I had imagined… We stopped at this place before heading to a friend’s beach house. The lady at the register was very nice. She was very suggestive with what is ordered here more, her preference and what people thinks is good. I forget her name but I recall she has a forearm tattoo. The gentleman in her shift was helpful as well. He had me try a dressing that I was unfamiliar with. I recall it as the tzatziki sauce. If you’re reading this(owner), a bonus, free day off and a pat on the back would be great for their outstanding well versed Pita-pit recommendations. The setup seems to require a more meticulous process(and maybe needs a little fine-tuning) but these guys made it look easy. Coming from the register, to the grill then to the pita and hummus section made my mouth water and got me excited for it. Once we reached our destination, I bit down on this little slice of heaven and boy this place surely did not disappoint! I may find myself coming here more. And more, and more…

This is my go-to, healthier-quick option on the peninsula. They have a ton of options and you can pick your own ingredients(which is what I typically do) People are always friendly. Also, insider tip… keep your receipt and go next door to CeFiore for some FroYo. She will give you a 15% discount off your purchase and the same goes the other way.(CeFiore receipt gives you 15% off PP) …saving a couple bucks doesn’t hurt!

When I found out they opened a Pita Pit in Newport last summer, I was so excited, I was literally jumping up and down in my apartment. Now that my excitement has dwindled down a bit after some time, Pita Pit is still good. I usually get the Chicken Souvlaki for my meat, with lettuce, tomatoes, grilled spinach and onions, cucumbers, some cheese, Tzatziki sauce, and their Secret Sauce. You can get whole wheat or white pita. I usually get the whole wheat pita, but I remember one time they said my pita was going to be too big, so the recommended that I get the white pita because it is a bit more sturdy. I love how they have their nutritional facts on the wall and in pamphlets. You can just add up everything you got in your pita and factor in wheat or white pita, and wah lah, you got your total calories and fat for your meal. One order fills me up to the brim, I can probably get away with just eating half and being full, but it is just too good to stop at just half, while the other half is just sitting there, staring at me, telling me to keep eating. They have breakfast pitas, but I’ve never tried them, but they do look promising. And I’ve seen a sign saying that they deliver, which I think is SO cool. Since its always a B trying to find parking in Newport, delivery seems like a pretty useful service. Their service is incredible. They walk you through each step of making your pita just the way you want it. If it is your first time, they will explain everything to you, and give you tips on what tastes good together and etc. The workers didn’t show an ounce of annoyance when I asked them for extra lettuce and for my veggies to be grilled. Pita Pit: Delicious, filling, healthy, and friendly.

I was one of Pita Pit’s most avid fans when I first tried their restaurant last November. I’ve been back 1 – 2 times per month and tried a few different meat and breakfast pitas. I’m sorry to say that Pita Pit has lost my vote of approval due to a general decrease in quality and apathetic, untrained customer service. In terms of quality, the last time I went, the freshness that I loved about Pita Pit seemed to have disappeared in the ingredients bar. They were out of sprouts, and the iceberg lettuce was browned and drooping. Unappetizing. Another time, all of the wheat pitas were frozen so I had to eat a white bread pita. Pretty much every time I’ve eaten Pita since my first visit, something has been wrong with my order. This would seem impossible, considering their setup is basically Subway style. You literally point to what you want and watch the person add it to your pita bread behind a glass barrier. A couple of times, they’ve added raw vegetables when requested that they be grilled. Sometimes when making two pitas, they put your ingredients on the wrong pita which requires either a re-do or you just agreeing to eat something different than what you ordered. On my more recent trip, we ended up waiting around 15 extra minutes while a major mixup was remedied. The mixup would never had occurred if either of the people working there had been conscientious enough to ensure they were placing the right ingredients on the right pita. Other times, they roll your pita so aggressively that it bursts open, which means they have to haphazardly transfer your ingredients to another piece of pita bread. They chronically forget to add avocado. I mentioned this to the cashier, and she replied«you really just have to remind us with the avocado» because it’s in a separate refrigerator. I decided against informing her that once I had ordered the Morning Glory, which comes by default with grilled tomatoes and avocado, and hadn’t thought it would be necessary to remind them to add something that comes standard. Is it that novel of an idea to write down something you can’t remember?! Another time, I ordered avocado as an extra. Again, they forgot it, which was particularly annoying because that quarter of an avocado costs $ 1 extra. As a customer, I didn’t realize that it was my job to advocate for my order being correct. Did I mention all of these times there I was one of 3 or fewer customers in the entire place? The friendly service I experienced in the past has been replaced with slowness, sloppiness, and apathy. The people working there seem to be constantly rolling their eyes. One of the workers gave a wet sniffle, wiped her nose with the back of her hand, and then continued making my pita. All of these mess-ups, to me, indicate that Pita needs to spend more time training their employees and perhaps consider writing down orders. Step it up Pita Pit! I’ll be taking a hiatus until things improve.

My pita wasn’t that great — but I blame myself. I’ve always had constantly great food from pita pit. I’ve been on an eating healthy kick. I can’t blame the establishment for making my choice exactly what I asked for. Hummas and avacado, sans the dressing or cheese, I think that’s where I went wrong. Even still it was satisfying enough and I felt guilt free afterwards. The employee did give me a free cookie — I can never be 100% good… baby steps right? The parking here is meter only as far as I can tell… my guess is it can get pretty crazy being that it’s so close to the beach. Another gripe is that my pita was 7.01! My experience with pita pit has only been through drunken vacations in distant citys, now that it’s on my home turf I’m not hung over 7 $ for a pita just isnt doing it.
