I’ve ate here for the first time a few weeks ago and wasn’t that satisfied with what I ordered. It was good at best. But the reason why am I writing this review is because Hana Grill was blasting music from N.W.A… A rap group that definitely has explicit lyrics. Not sure if this is a good idea to be playing in this food court ESPECIALLY when there kids and family around.

Good tasty food with healthy options like brown rice and vegan dishes. I had the beef bowl and the Miso soup. Both very good. My wife had the vegan bowl. The service was quick and friendly. Highly recommended.

Got the spicy tuna bowl and thought it was actually pretty good. However 10 hours later I got food poisoning and threw everything up. The fish is obviously not clean nor wild as stated on the menu. Definitely will not come back because I certainly don’t want the stomach flu again!

At 2pm on a Sunday afternoon, I thought I could get expedited service from this food court joint because four staff members seemed to be quickly producing others’ orders. Unfortunately I was wrong — they were probably getting rid of a backlog… I stood at the cash register for five minutes waiting to be acknowledged. I should have left. It would have saved me from the sad food that I wish I hadn’t paid $ 20 for. The chicken(teriyaki) bowl — while it looked good, sadly had no flavor. The sauce was the weakest teriyaki one I’ve ever had, and the chicken was dry. My hubby had the special tonkatsu ramen, which was also flavorless. They forgot to add the pork. And the corn was definitely canned. Seriously, I would’ve preferred Panda Express over this.

Decent fast food style ramen and boba. I would have never expected to find these two items at Fashion Island food court. Of course it would be a lot better ordering these items at a real Asian establishment but it’s good for the convenience.

Nice people, but bad food. The California roll was tasteless. For $ 10, I expected more. At least they used real crab meat-possibly canned? We also ordered the tepanyaki which was a fair portion size, but not very flavorful. The condiment bar was nearly empty at 3pm and what sauces were left were very watered down. I would not recommend this place.

Located at the Newport Beach Fashion Island food court, my mom and I decided to grab something to eat for lunch on a Sunday a little over a week ago. We didn’t know what we wanted to eat but figured we would prefer to get something at the food court instead of eating at one of the many restaurants at Fashion Island. Anyways, my mom decided to get a chicken bowl at Hana Grill(next to Stone Oven). I had some of her food and we both thought it was just average(thus the 3 star rating). We were both a bit disappointed with the incredibly large portion of white rice in the bowl. Rice is cheap, especially white rice. There was definitely a good amount of teriyaki chicken but would have been nice to have more vegetables in this and less rice. The chicken itself was moist and the sauce was pretty standard. — — — — — — (Total= $ 8.99 + $ 0.71 tax= $ 9.70) My mom did not wait too long to get her food after ordering it. It is nice that there is a self water dispenser with cups available and also a little small bar of condiments that you can help yourself to. Overall, the food is just average with average selections of food. Since this is a food court, you can’t expect much.

The rice is overcooked! The California roll is too dry! The quality of the food is poor, not worth the money at all, you might as well go ANYWHERE else but here!

I was in the mood for something different so I ordered 2x Mini California Rolls + Jasmine Tea. The rolls were tasteless, so was the rice. No sesame around the rolls. The crab meat(if you could call it that) was bland — you can get more flavor out of the mini sushi trays sold at your local gas station. WTF? And the employee charged me an extra 81 cents for his soda which i didn’t realize he snuck onto my bill.

Avoid eating here at all costs. I got the worst food poisoning I’ve ever gotten from this place. Got a fever, too. I know two other people who have gotten food poisoning from here too, so it’s clearly a trend!

This place is awesome. The food is so good especially the chicken bowl which has tons of veggies and meat. The price you pay is really good too because they are very generous with their portions

This is the worst bowl I have ever had. The cashier didn’t ask if I wanted vegetables or green salad and I ordered it to go but that’s not how the order was given to me. The chicken has a rubber texture and is chewy. No flavor at all. I couldn’t even finish it.

I sort of had high expectations for this place since it’s located in fashion island but that was my fault to assume everything in a nice area would taste good. My work ordered a couple bowls and salads– chicken salad, chicken bowl, and tuna bowl. I can say the best thing about my food was the avocado that came in the chicken salad on the side as it was the only thing that look fresh. The chicken bowl had vegetables that were brown-I originally thought it was from the sauce but when I tasted it, the veggies tasted old and the chicken was dry. The tuna bowl didn’t look appetizing at all. The tuna was butchered and mashed up right next to some seaweed. But of course the hair that my coworker pulled out of the tuna bowl just topped it off. This wasn’t just a small hair, this was about 3 inches long. That right there. just killed my appetite. Any place that serves food with ingredients from a persons body is a game changer and in this case– hair.

Chicken bowl was delicious! Not bad for the place/price at all. In my opinion, tuna bowl and spicy chicken combo are not as good though.

I go to this spot quite often. I like their chicken bowl(mainly ‘cos I’m trying to watch my diet lately) most importantly, the reason I gave it a ***** is, my room-mate likes Teriyaki and chicken — and these guys make Chicken Teriyaki sticks !! p.s — she seldom accepts anything I make or get, coz thats how she is(conservative I guess) However, when I got these for her one fine evening, she LOVED these chicken sticks a lot!!! not that I wanted to make her happy, but it felt good ;) u got it Hana baby — 5 stars !!! ;)

Hana Grill offers a noble Japanese inspired bowl if you are looking for a healthy lunch in a Food Court setting. When ever I am looking for a guilt free lunch that I can count on for freshness and flavor, Hana Grill is always on the short list for Newport Beach. Located inside of the Fashion Island Food Court, they offer a relatively diverse menu with Rolls, Bowls and even full plates at a reasonable value. Everything is cooked to order which takes more time but the flavor is worth it. I exclusively get the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl with Brown Rice. White and Dark Meat Chicken is grilled to a char and then slathered with a sweet Teriyaki sauce and then perched atop layers of Brown Rice, Asian Slaw, Vegetables, and I always add Green Onion and«Fire Cucumbers(Cucumbers marinated in a Red pepper Paste) and blast the lot of it with Sriracha. Loaded up as described, the bowl is the absolute JAM and at $ 8.00 out the door, hard to beat in price. The Food Court ambiance leaves a lot to be desired but there is usually decent people watching to be had and with good company it doesn’t matter anyways.

06.30.2014 H and her cousin J shared an 8-piece California roll and the special(teriyaki chicken, beef and shrimp with rice, veggies and salad all in one plate). The Cali rolls were huge and had good taste. I’m guessing everything else tasted just as good or better because there was nothing left over.

Focusing on my chicken bowl was proving difficult. My 85-year old momma had plopped herself in a food court seat and when I returned with my tray I saw that my view was of her, yes, but also of the steady stream of customers patronizing the place behind her, Chick-fil-A. In general, I’m not very politically motivated. Once in a while something grabs me and I decide to take a stand. Chick-fil-A is my stand. I don’t like their monetary support of groups which actively oppose things which I favor. Like equal rights. Thus, I won’t touch their chicken and I feel obligated to give the stink-eye to anyone who does. It made me a little sad(and eye sore) to see a steady stream of customers here and hardly a soul coming through Hana Grill. Especially since Hana Grill made a damned fine chicken bowl. Take that, Chick-fil-A. Options for the chicken bowl include your choice of white or brown rice(on the bottom) and stir-fried veggie or salad atop that. They top that with an ample volume of tasty dark meat in teriyaki sauce and then there’s the icing: A really great self-serve condiment section to unite all the flavors. Momma can’t stand dark meat but she still oohed when I returned to the table. My chicken bowl looked good. I opted for white rice and salad greens then added sides of pickled ginger, jalapenos, sriracha, Japanese cole slaw, sesame seeds, teriyaki sauce, and more. It was kind of perfect and certainly far better than I expected from this food court. Fashion Island(where Hana Grill is located) once had a very nice, upscale food court. I guess it was a hard sell as most of the original tenants are long gone. Hana Grill now competes with Taco Bell, Five Guys, Panda Express, and Chick-fil-A, amongst others. Opting for a healthy, tasty chicken bowl should be a no-brainer given the competition but people don’t seem to be listening. I’ll never know what Chick-fil-A tastes like but I now know about Hana Grill and what can I say? If I had it to do over I’d order the exact same thing. You can decide for yourself how you feel about the politics of Chick-fil-A but trust me on Hana Grill. They make a fine food court chicken bowl.

I love coming here for lunch when I am working at Fashion Island. I didn’t even know they had a food court, but after I found it I decided to eat here. I ordered the Spicy Tuna Bowl twice now. The tuna is very fresh, and they give you A LOT! Comes with thinly sliced carrots, cucumbers and amazing Japanese chuka seaweed salad, which is one of my favorite things and they do a really good job with it. All on top of perfectly cooked rice; your choice of brown or white. Staff is always super friendly, and service is nice and fast– even in the rush of lunch time. They also have a condiment bar off to the left side. With spicy cucumbers(delicious) japanese coleslaw, ginger, and various sauces. For $ 10 you can’t go wrong.

This place is located in the food court of Fashion Island… where there’s a Starbucks within the Barnes Noble. Easy to find and walk to if you work across the street like I do. My co-workers and I enjoy this place very much because they make it fresh to each order. They even have a mini condiments bar on the side! The unagi bowl, mix bbq plate, and spicy tuna bowl are all delicious and run @ $ 9.99 per order. I’ve tried their snowcrab roll as well, but not super into it for some reason… perhaps it was too dry that day? A bowl alone gives me food coma… so I’d try to avoid eating the entire thing in one sitting if you have tons of work to do… haha! Yum! . Tip: They do offer a punch card(buy 10 meals get 1 meal free)… just ask =)
