Skipjack currently holds a spot as one of my favorite restaurants. I went here on a first date two years ago and have loved it since. The menu is seafood oriented(always a huge plus) but they always have an incredibly interesting mixture of foods on their menu. The atmosphere is great and the serving staff is kind and attentive with many long term servers. The diverse menu, friendly staff and great atmosphere come together to make an evening you won’t forget.

Came in on a Sunday evening with my wife. The bar was active but not crowded. The restaurant was ½ full. We’ve been here before so we knew the food was good. Unfortunately they had one waitress handling the entire dining room. It took 10 minutes before we got a glass of water from the hostess, because the waitress was swamped. You should never have to wait on «wait staff». Eventually the dining room thinned out & our food started coming out. The Blue Point oysters were delicious, the side salad was fresh & crisp. We both had the filet mignon with mushroom jus sauce. The mushroom steak sauce was soooooooooo salty! The steaks… well my medium rare, was cooked perfectly, my wife’s «well done» filet… sorry, never order filet mignon WELLDONE! …or suffer the consequences! I. E her steak was sent back & eventually recooked to her likeness. We normally don’t do desert, but the carrot cake with Crème brûlée & candied walnuts caused enough interest to go where we normally wouldn’t go. Three words… TOODIEFOR! This was absolutely a get again desert. Sounded rich, but it paired perfectly with the house blend coffee & didn’t sit like a ton of rocks at the end of the, mostly, good meal. I started this review with 3 stars, but, have upgraded to 4, being open minded to all considered. The pricing is a little on the high end, but, I’m a firm believer, you get what you pay for. Yes, I would recommend SkipJacks, would we go back, of course.

Great service and quality food in a cozy atmosphere. We have eaten her about 5 times and have been pleased. Last visit, we were there on a Friday night, the restaurant was packed, yet our service was still pleasant and prompt. Some of the dishes can be on the exotic side; but they have some more typical foods as well. Pleased with the freshness of the ingredients, and presentation is well done.

I love this place. First visit tonight with a friend who had been there one other time. We felt like grazing, so we got the baked cauliflower, Lettuce wraps, and the butternut squash soup. The soup, IMHO, is away better than the Back Burners Pumpkin/Mushroom soup.(That’s a fantastic compliment, by the way). The cauliflower was heaven, and the Lettuce wraps were different than any other I’ve ever had, and was prepared to be disappointed. But, boy was I wrong. They were amazing!!! Our food disappeared so quickly, that we didn’t have a chance to take photos. This is a fabulous place, and I know we both will be coming in often, and bringing lots of other new customers with us. I’m not crazy about meat, or exotic meats. And I don’t usually like seafood. So I was prepared to come away not really impressed. But the menu is loaded with vegetarian dishes, and the finesse that this chef carries off is sublime!!!

Delicious 10 minute lunch. We had the fish tacos with chipotle aioli. They were actually wraps. Quite tasty with the herb fries. Friendly server, casual atmosphere, and nautically themed restaurant. Loved it.

Wonderful food, nice nautical décor and friendly staff. The seafood dishes are quite good and so are the desserts.

Everything has always been good here. No bad experiences. They have a small location but they make up for it with high quality food and inspired dishes.

My first Unilocal review, yay! Went here with a friend on Tuesday night. It’s a small, quaint place with a nice atmosphere. Loved having the guy up front playing the piano, he was great! I hope he’s there next time we go.(Hope he takes requests too) :) We ordered the fried Gouda Mac n cheese and the brussell sprouts as appetizers… both were very delicious. For main dish, I got the Herman’s Burger. Great taste and the parmesan fries were wonderful. Friend got the Pesto Grilled Cheese, which tasted good, but was kinda too juicy. You shouldn’t see a bunch of liquid dripping out when you pick up a grilled cheese. But overall, it was still pretty good. Server was also very attentive and nice. We will def be coming back here again! On a final note, I’ll just reiterate… the Fried Gouda Mac n Cheese is awesome.

I would give this place full stars but, every time i go here, i am completely annoyed by the Mels Diner bartenders and some of the waitstaff. One of the waitresses flat out blamed the kitchen for a mess up. Every time i come there are innapropriate conversations behind the bar within public view. Theres friendly and then theres in your face obnoxious. I feel if the owner who is an awesome chef would ditch the dead weight then this place would take off.

Great food and very laid back atmosphere. I appreciate they support local business such as hermans meat market. Gotta try their burger.

Amazing food and good price. The portions are slight smaller than expected but it’s no bid deal when the flavor makes up for it. We got the fried calamari, which was so damn good. You can’t go wrong with fried food, but this restaurant really took it up a notch. I got the iron cast barramundi, which was also delicious! I would highly recommend this place

Visited with Nicole B and Matt for Happy Hour on Saturday. Rare to find a happy hour on weekends, and on top of that they honored our certificate for $ 25 so it was a great deal. We loved the rabbit sausage flat bread. We were adventurous and tried the antelope cheesesteak. It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t much like a cheesesteak. The cheese board was good, but nothing special, just like any other. The fried mac and cheese was fantastic and the best I’ve had. The Jalepeno beer cheese fondue was terrible. It tasted like a mix made of flour and cheese and it didnt taste at all like cheese or fondue, and no jalapeño either. The chips were way too salty as well. The cheeseburger egg rolls were awesome! Still a solid 4 and would come back again to try something different.

Stopped in here for happy hour on a Sat and happy to find out we could use a coupon at the bar and on the happy hour specials. We shared 5 different appetizers. Started off with rabbit sausage and pesto flat bread which 2 of us were scared of but it was fantastic. Also the antelope cheese steak which wasnt as good. In fact a little tough so was disappointing. Next came the cheese board, fried mac and cheese with pulled pork on top and the jalapeño cheese dip. The cheese and mac and cheese were both solid 5’s however the dip really was flavorless and tasted like there was too much flour in it. Also no whipped cream for our Irish coffee which was odd. Would think a place that sells desserts would have whipped cream. But overall we were pleased and will go back.

It’s rare that you can find a small place that has really good quality food and at a reasonable price this, is one of them This was the third time that we ate at the restaurant. Every time we found the food to be above average. The staff goes out of their way to be helpful and they are very pleasant. In addition they have a nice bar area with happy hour specials. Their beer prices seem very reasonable.

Bought a coupon on to Skipjack since I have never been there. All I can say is WOW! Food was fantastic and service was great! I had the Chilean Sea Bass and it was a very nice piece of fish and prepared perfectly. The menu is unique with odd combinations, but the flavors all meld together! I can’t wait to go back and try other items on their menu!!!

This was our third visit and it’s been awesome every time. It was very busy and we didn’t have reservations. So we were seated at a table in the bar. This was probably better as it was kind of loud in the dining room. I started with the Smoked Chicken Minestrone with mozzarella croûton, soft herbs. It was very good, but it could have been a little warmer. My entrée was the crab stuffed lobster tail, which was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The lobster tail was broken during preparation, so Donnie(owner) had the server tell us it was no charge. Totally unexpected, and i probably wouldn’t have noticed it, anyway. Clearly he has high standards. I finished with the bread pudding and cinnamon ice cream, also a winner. The service was great, as usual. I totally recommend this place… one of the best in Delaware.

A co-worker of mine told me this place was good. So I made a reservation for my mom and I for her birthday. I told them beforehand(and when we got there) it was her birthday and this was our first time here. Our reservations were for 5PM on a Saturday and the dining area was completely empty besides the staff. We were seated near a window. The place seemed nice and clean. With a name like Skipjack, they had a bunch of boat themed things around. Our waitress Megan(with a bunch of tattoos — I mention that just in case there is another Megan working there) was really nice. She was attentive(with an empty room you would expect that though.) My mom and I ordered the Brie & artichoke fondue for an appetizer. It wasn’t bad but I think we were just super hungry. I ordered the winter squash mascarpone ravioli(3 for $ 12) for my entrée, which was just okay as well. The entrees do not come with anything though(like a side salad or anything.) When we got to dessert Megan brought me something I didn’t order; flourless chocolate torte when I ordered the white chocolate cherry bread pudding. I asked her what she was going to do with the torte and she said they would throw it out, I asked her if I could at least taste it, without her charging me. She let me, the thing was just way too rich. For a $ 91 check, I was very, very disappointed. The food was mediocre at best and the fact that there was nothing offered for my mom’s birthday and not to mention this was our first time here… the only reason this place got 3 stars and not 2 was because of Megan’s friendliness and how nice the place looked. Needless to say, I won’t be back.
