Surprisingly a nice mini version of Alameda County Fair with no admission! A great range of carnival food selection from mini donuts, funnel cakes, pizza, spam musobi, and deep fried eggplant! Also weird stuff like deep fried frog legs, shark/alligator on a stick and bacon lemonade.

A great way to celebrate Newark’s birthday. Weeks before the event, I noticed banners going up throughout the city promoting the celebration. Those gentle reminders work. Thursday’s opening night, with carnival rides. Food, games and shows are added in Friday evening. The carnival and events startup again Saturday after the morning parade, and wind down Sunday evening. Handicapped or permit parking only in most lots, so street parking or at the church across the street are the best bets. There were many vendors this year, hawking everything from live birds to beef jerky. Blood pressure screenings, martial art demonstrations and booths supporting various election propositions in addition to the standard carnival rides, games, food vendors, classic cars, bands, magic shows, clowns, etc. This year’s theme was«Be A Kid Again». Stage shows like one featuring the Three Stooges brought home that point. With no admission price and free street parking, what excuse do you have not to have fun?
