Gnarly Surf Bar & Grill

We ate at the Gnarly Surf Bar last night and our meal was very good. The Mahi BLT that two people had was the group favorite with the fried green tomatoes perfectly done. The shrimp tacos had a lot of shrimp but were dry; I added some of the lime aioli which helped a lot.

Great place, varied funky menu. It is located on a main drag so it’s a little noisy if you sit outside. The flat iron steak over a black bean salad was very tasty. The steak was cooked medium rare and perfectly executed. A grilled grouper sandwich was nicely cooked, the French fries were the best we’ve had in a long time. We would return to sample other items on the menu on our next trip to the area.

Check your website said you were closed today we would have stopped. After we ate somewhere else we drive by and open! Also no phone number on Unilocal?Oh well

Brunch is pretty epic. Besides that the food is over priced and not very good. I’ve tried it 3 too many times.
Update…tried this spot again because of the ambience and the convenience of being a block from home.
I stand by my original word… way over priced for what you get.
The taco soup was chili from a can for $ 4
The Cuban wasn’t bad and neither were the beans, but if I’m playing $ 20 for lunch, I’m gonna need a lot more… I’m done eating here…

New place we tried, turned out to be really good. Grouper BLT Sandwich was great, music a little loud, but if you like rock, it’s meant to be. Would visit again

My husband and I love the vibe of this place, and we really enjoy the food too. We have had some great experiences here. I give this place only 3 stars because the last couple times we were there, we had below average service. I brought some friends from out of town a couple weeks ago, and the server had an attitude as soon as we walked in. If we had been drunk or unruly, I would understand that, but this was a pretty low key group. I’ll still give this place another shot though because I have had great experiences in the past.

This place is a dive in every sense of the word, and all in the best way. The staff is always very nice and knows their job. Almost seems like a family run business but whatever it is works for me. They have a small draft beer selection but all are great beers. The bartenders all know their beer as well.
The food comes out fast and is fresh. I most always get a burger cooked medium rare and I have never been sick (sad way to have to judge food quality) so I keep coming back.
The atmosphere is dive bar as well with way above average food. Just enough TVs to keep me occupied but not overwhelmed.
All in all the best dive in town up there with Merks.

Great location poorly executed; during my visit the bartender was also the waiter-​and personal hygiene was not his priority.
My sandwich was decent but the fries were among the worst I’ve had – limp from improper fry cooking.

Food was really good. Omlettes were big and and service was great. Would definitely go again.

Food was not up to par, service was slow slow SLOWWWW and drinks were beyond expensive for what you got! I left feeling ripped off !

Delicious shrimp tacos! We went on an off time so there wasn’t much atmosphere but the service was friendly and the tacos delicious!

Fish tacos were excellent. Beer is ridiculously over priced. $ 6.75 each. Not even a pint glass. 10 ounces. Shimp tacos and hamburger good.

Ate here on a hot day in June with my family. They had a bowl of water for my dog when we were seated outside. Staff was friendly, knowledgable and courteous. Had the fish tacos, amazing! Black beans and the saffron rice was so so good! Black beans are cooked with onions and apple vinegar I think, unique and amazing flavor! Rice is delicious, not dry like most rice side dishes, a light coating of sauce still remained.
Also ordered were berger and chicken tacos– also great!

I eat here with a large group of picky people and everyone leaves happy! Very beachy/​hippy vibe inside. Fish tacos and shrimp tacos are fantastic! Others got mahi, shrimp Mac and cheese, burgers, lamb tacos… Everyone loved everything! Good happy hour and 25 cent draw bridge beer! Only downfalls are the tiny parking lot and no ocean view.

I’ll admit that this is not a foodie’s (dorks) paradise, but this place is a very cool hangout. The food is more than good enough. The Staff is very cool too. Another NSB favorite that will keep me comin back.
Oh, and Umm-silverware…lighten the f**k up.

OK, maybe it was the alcohol or just dementia setting in. Ate at this place in July and really didn’t enjoy it but … There are so few good restaurants in town … Could it really have been that bad??? God it was worse.
Again, the lamb curry taco. Like before, cardboard like overcooked lamb, again, not even a hint of a taste of curry, and now red cabbage for crunch and bits of the cheapest tasting feta (all salt no flavor). I took most of it home but, no longer having a dog, threw it away.
The rice is alleged to have saffron in it … Could have fooled me. This could have been spiced with «rice helper» purchased at the Publix up the street. BAB BAD BAD When will this CLOSE CLOSE CLOSE?

I stopped here with some girl friends on our way home from a beach day for a beer. One of my friends ranted and raved about how awesome this place was. They offer 25 cent draft beers every time the drawbridge raises.
I have to say I was not terribly impressed, probably because my friend over-​glorified it in her recommendations.
It’s a little seafood shack with various sandwiches and seafood entrees. No water views, very small parking — literally maybe 8 spaces. The décor is quaint and Caribbean style, lots of vibrant colors. I would consider coming back for lunch, but their dinner entrees were way too pricey, upwards of $ 20.
Apparently one of the reasons my friend likes this place so much is they are dog friendly.

Tried it several times disappointing too bad great idea they just can’t deliver redo the menu and staff and do a Grand Re-​opening this is Florida buy local fresh seafood and they will come good luck
