Best Italian food in all of Westchester! I came here Saturday night — the food was phenomenal and the service was perfect. Definitely coming back!

just ordered the penne ala vodka and pasta fagioli and chicken picotta. The chicken picotta is ok. The penne ala vodka is horrible. Very little sauce and hardly tastes like a vodka sauce. I’m highly disappointed with their food. Also the pasta fagioli is way under par compared to other places in new rochelle. The only thing worth buying there is the pizza if you are there and having drinks. If you are not there having drinks then just do yourself a favor and order pizza from another place as you can get better pizza for less elsewhere but like I said there pizza is edible.

Went here for dinner a few sundays ago with my Fiancée and it grossly underwhelmed my expectations. Appetizers were good went with caprese and their rice balls. But the«lobster ravioli» was just plain awful. Frankly I do not believe they even used lobster, may have been langostino or something which tasted similar to a scallop. But it was damn sure not a velvet, buttery, delicious lobster in that pink sauce Maybe the pizza would be a better selection to eat but trust me, this place was expensive and an utter disappointment.

Based on previous reviews, I, chose this restaurant for dinner to celebrate my sister graduating college. I called a few days before the night to reserve a table for our large group. The reservation was without any issues. The Italian dishes served to the group of 11 were delicious. Even the décor of the restaurant was pretty and clean. The only thing that was missing was good old fashion customer service. The friendly kind. Our waitress lack this. There was no warm greeting upon our arrival at the table or any friendly gesture at any moment throughout the dinner. There are plenty of restaurants that provide great meals along with great and friendly service. Modern fails in providing both.

The best part of this place was the atmosphere. I loved the décor and style, and did not feel at all like I was in New Rochelle. The staff was pleasant and attentive, and the menu was filled with traditional Italian classics. Overall, a very good dining experience, but a little pricey for traditional Italian.

Brunch … Awesome! Excellent selection of dishes for brunch. Unlimited mimosa, bellini or Bloody Mary. Banana foster with pancakes; delish! You don’t like bananas? Then, strawberries is the next best option. Highly recommended!

I love this place! Fettucine Carbonara is my favorite. And if you love fried calamari wait until you try their Chipotle Calamari. So good. The ambiance is great and everyone is so nice. My favorite spot in the heart of new rochelle.

Great choice for lunch or dinner when friends are visiting from out of town. Good food and lively atmosphere. The take out is great too and pick-up conveniently located through separate entrance to avoid cluttering front door.

We used to eat at the old Modern, which was not at all Modern:). This space is really well done and a great place to have a solid meal. We live around the corner and have eaten at the New, Modern a few times and have never been disappointed. The portions are huge and almost always go for the old standby Chicken parm. Enough for dinner and leftovers for lunch the next day. Pizza is very good too!

Good food, though a tad pricey. This place is a little overrated generally. All I heard for years was about how Modern was excellent with this and excellent with that, but it was a little of a letdown when I came in here… and every other time I’ve been in here since. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad at all, but from all I’ve heard, it wasn’t the greatest place in the world as I’ve heard and read. They used to be located about 2 miles down the block and it was very confining, but cozy at the same time. This new location does look better, even if parking is still a pain here as it was in the old location. This new location is an improvement overall though. The place is pricey and for the amount I’m paying for a simple slice of pizza, it’s a little above average, but I can’t say excellent. The sandwiches and pasta servings are large and at times range from good to very good, but I’ve had better as well. The staff is usually pleasant and busy. The owner is there sometimes and is very friendly to some select people. He used to try once in a while to man the register for a takeout order, but he needs to stay away from doing that. Sometimes he just seems to lurk about without a care. I am a fan of the chicken francese sandwich. Never was a fan of the name«Modern», but the newer location slightly jives more with the name than the old place did. Again, the food is good generally, but I do think the place takes itself a little too seriously and could probably be a little easier with the price. I can understand the prices for the huge pasta portions, but maybe they should offer different sizes. A little overrated, sure. Worth checking out, sure.

Awesome all around first experience. Finally made it in to Modern w/the gf and family and we are all glad that we came. We came on a Saturday night and spent the wait at the bar which was very nicely designed with a friendly staff. The cocktail and wine menus were great; however, they could work on adding a few craft beers and improving the sangria recipes. The restaurant itself has an awesome ambiance and décor with high ceilings and awesome glass and tile work, nice wooden tabletops, and fancy leather booths. Modern is nice enough that you can dress up and go on a date or a nice family meal yet relaxed enough that you can come in casual. They also have plenty of space for private events. The menu is huge and packed with classic hearty Italian dishes with everything from pizzas to steaks. Every entrée comes with a salad and pasta, just like the old days. We started with the Calamari alla Arrabbiata. The flavor on the calamari was exceptional. I definitely could have used more sauce and a lemon to squeeze; but nonetheless, I would definitely order this again. For my entrée I ordered the Chicken Scarp. I highly recommend this dish. If you are familiar with Carlo’s Restaurant in Yonkers(another Westchester classic), they make it very similar to them with chunks of breast meat, vinegar hot cherry peppers, butter, garlic, potatoes, and sausage. What makes there’s different is a generous use of lemon in the sauce I suggest you get this over your pasta. Carlo’s may have them beat when they are on point but on the regular, Modern may take the crown. Their tomato sauce is up there with the best you will have but it is on the sweeter side, whereas I do prefer more savory. The cannolo for dessert was crisp and the filling was great. It was definitely higher quality than the generic cannolis you will find in most places. The cappuccino was very good as well. The service was excellent and friendly at every level. The pace of the meal was perfect, not too slow and not too rushed. Based on our first experience, we will be returning soon and often.

Oh Lordy pick a dish! My mouth was watering by just looking at the menu. My guy surprised me after work one evening. I had a long and tiring day/evening. While walking home from the train station, this shadow scared the crap out of me and it was him! As I was following him home, we stopped at Modern. Yeah, he totally made my groggy frown into a genuine happy smile. Very clean and intimate setting, the bar seemed to gain a lot of attention, but still very pleasant. :) You receive a basket of freshly baked bread with your food and while you wait. I had the Fettecini Alfredo and he had some pasta with ricotta and mozzarella cheese with a tomato sauce– I’ll have to look at the menu for the name of the dish but it was amaze balls! As an appetizer we shared a large cranberry and ricotta cheese salad with raspberry dressing it was to die for! Wine selection is mighty good. I had the house Riesling and the fella got a red wine… again, delicious. Totally recommend this place. Friendly staff, clean space, romantic/casual vibe– which is awesome. It’s your date night spot, but also a nice after work, get together with friends for a drink or two while watching ESPN!

Always a hit. Had lunch today. Great appetizers polenta with asparagus, beautiful red light sauce. Very nicely done. Also ordered the arugula salad with the raspberry vignette, cranberries. Again, very nicely done. Service was on spot. Once again, go check it out.

I like this place. I’ve never had a bad meal or poor service. We went there this past Friday for dinner and it was good. My boyfriend got the pork chops which he LOVED. I actually didn’t find them very flavorful, but he did. The side of tortellini carbonara was delish! I got the calamari and escarole and white bean soup and was pretty happy. Service was great. This in one of our goto spots.

New Rochelle, all of Westchester really, needs a moratorium on Italian restaurants. The space at the oddly named«Modern» is awesome, but there is nothing modern about it. It looks like a place you should be able to get an artisan cocktail and a lobster soufflé but instead it’s a place where you get a chicken parm sandwich and a Singapore Sling(the actual cocktail of the day today) with R Kelly playing just a little too loudly. People are nice, but other than that I’m not sure why anyone would want to come here.

Upgrading my review after over two years because after a movie, Modern was open later than some of the other options in the area. I remembered it from my days working up here and I was craving pizza, so I thought it would be a good idea. It was a great idea. I recall writing before that nothing stood out when I first went, but last night my boyfriend and I had an awesome waiter named Billy. He was friendly, approachable, and he even offered menu suggestions to keep us full, as well as our wallets. As 11PM came, I was a little upset that we might not be able to get dessert since I didn’t want to keep anybody working late, but Billy assured us that it was okay. We ordered tiramisu, which was quite possibly the best I’ve had in a long time, if not ever. I will definitely be returning thanks to this impeccable service!

This place is great :) great atmosphere open n floor plan with bar area. Music playing in the background but at the perfect volume. Lighting is nice very comfortable. Now the food… prices are moderate the app fried mozzerella was 11.00 and the ravioli was 15.00. Worth every bite. Wide variety of items on the menu from chicken, steak, pizza, seafood and of course the Italian dishes. Wait staff was friendly and accommodating Will definitely be back whenever im in the New Rochelle area!!!
