Read all the reviews and took them in consideration when we went on 1−30−16. True that we were going early due to the opera simulcast at rhe Bardavon, yet the restaurant was arm and inviting. The owner chef greeted us but quickly passed the baton to his head waiter who was more of a maitre d than server. Although the critiques said the service was uninterested, we found the opposite to be the case, asking my French mother the proper pronunciation of a Patriarche Burgundy wine. Stater salad was enormous, escargot was like a mushroom cream appetizer but very adequate, the mushroom cake a but bland but acceptable. Scallop and steak combo special was delicious although the meat was a tiny bit tough. In their defense they did have a filet mignon as another special. My ½ duck was almost boneless and cooked to perfection. Wine bottles are only 25 dollars each which is unheard of. The catch: CASHONLY. Barely mentioned but true. I noticed all the tables that filled later, so I can say through observation, the service and speed of food was absolutely normal, which made the entire experience a smashing success. Be more forward about the cash only but we have here a cry winning combination.

The rating is an average between the 5 star for the food and 1 star for service. We waited no exaggeration here 30 minutes minimum to order the food, 30 minutes minimum to receive our appetizer and another 30 minutes minimum to receive our appetizers. I understand that it was a full house but it was evident that they were short staffed but luckily it didn’t affect the quality of the food as it would’ve added an additional thorn to our experience. The interior is very warm and my husband found this spot as we were passing through from Poconos, PA to Tarrytown, NY. We sat at the communal table and in the back corner so had a view of the rest of the restaurant. I was able to observe that we weren’t the only ones with extended waits for our food but did notice that the couple across from us(who appeared to be regulars) DIDN’T have the same issue — take it as you wish but I perceived it as biased service. I ordered the mushroom ravioli and my husband the salmon both of which were excellent. I would hesitate to return due to lack of attentive waitstaff — at one point we even saw the chef come out to assist as the two servers obviously had their hands full!

A group of us took a break from the city to hike around the Monhonk Preserve. We had a very nice time. Before making the drive back to the city, we decided to stop in New Paltz for dinner. End Cut came highly recommended by someone in our group, so we stopped by. The restaurant is in a building that resembles someone’s home. Once you walk in, you feel as if you are in someone’s very nice and cozy dining room. There is a small bar and a small number of tables. We did not have a reservation, but were very fortunate to find out that the large communal table was available for our group of 6. The waitstaff was very kind and attentive. We ordered the wild mushroom cakes and beet salad for appetizers. It took quite a bit of time to come out, but it was worth the wait. The mushroom cakes were very savory and the avocado pesto was the perfect compliment. The beet salad was very fresh and the beets were perfectly sweet. For the main course, most of us ordered the Cod dish(special for the night) or the short ribs. I had the cod which was a beautifully prepared fresh fillet covered in a butter sauce. The short ribs, I heard were divine. I gave End Cut 3 stars because although the food was very good, it took about an hour for the main dishes to come out to the table. We watched other diners come, sit, order, eat, and leave before our food came out. I understand that we were a party of 6, and that sometimes restaurants can have a bad night, but it was an unreasonably long wait. We were actually contemplating cancelling the order and leaving. The waiters were very kind and very apologetic, so it is difficult for me to give such a harsh review. Also keep in mind that they ONLY accept cash.

Jordan is a wonderful chef with a sublime flair for hospitality. he provided a spontaneous lunch for us a few weeks ago. He opened up for passers by because… well, because he loves what he does. We are going to be frequent customers and cannot wait to share our Thanksgiving at one of his tables with a group of friends. The food is made from scratch, cooked with love and tastes like heaven!

I chose to rate the place in the middle only because the entrees, one cup of coffee, and one dessert were very good. My guy and I got wind of this place at the Taste of New Paltz this year. The little space was perfectly lit with great music. We were the only couple at 8:15 pm. I ordered the beet salad asking for the goat cheese to be omitted. He ordered the pear salad. Both were delicious except mine came with goat cheese. I asked for another and was completely disappointed. The redo was rushed and very bitter. I was asked what she could do for me and I asked to have it removed from the bill. This was a second server mind you. Our entrees came shortly afterward and were delicious. Halibut was topped with pear salsa(too much onion), and my short ribs were great! At the end of our meal, We were asked by our first waiter, «do you want anything else»? Hmmmm. How about a dessert menu. 4 items. Lemon tart was refreshing. His Apple tart stale and cold. My guy asked for a warm up. It never made it back to the table. Both of our servers were engaged at the bar in conversation and my guy had to signal for the waiter. The beet salad remained on the check. However both desserts were comped. It will be a while before we return or recommend this place. A trained waitstaff would help this restaurant.

This place is super lovely! My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary. We live in Manhattan and came up for the weekend. The meal was wonderful we had short ribs and filet. Very delicious, seasonal flavors, nice ambience and nice wine selection. Would definitely recommend to anyone in or visiting New Paltz!

Quite simply… over the top. Occasionally you encounter a place that crushes it the way End Cut did for us two nights ago, but not in every category. From the«thug-appearance» greeting on the front stoop by the chef, sous chef, and waiter(which sealed the deal that we were going in) to the perfectly balanced visits from the waiter and chef during the meal, it was a culinary experience not to be missed. In New Paltz for my daughter’s sports event, we left planning the next drive down from Red Hook. From the escargot served unorthodox style loose in a cream, mushroom, and slivered garlic sauce that almost started a fist fight over the soaked croûton in the bottom of the dish, to the fantastic vanilla bean crème brûlée that had us slapping spoons to get the last tidbits, the bookends only highlighted the delicious entrees. Mustard crusted salmon and a bone-in pork chop filled the middle of the meal, and both were hits. While I personally prefer my chop slightly less finished(my fault perhaps for not requesting it «rare»), it was still juicy and easy to cut. The salmon was cooked to perfection and was as fresh as it gets. Both came accompanied by delicious pairings of perfectly prepared vegetables and legumes. To miss End Cut is to shortchange yourself of a culinary experience to rival any Manhatten or Boston establishment. While there are many varied places to eat in New Paltz, this was a gem worth the«A» list.

— My family & I were not so much disappointed in our food, other then it being cold but the service was horrific! We had high hopes for this little restaurant but ended our night baffled with how rude and disgusting our server was. I high recommend you steer away from this restaurant.

We’ve been here several times, and it is consistently outstanding! I had the Escargot in wild Mushroom cream sauce as an appy. It was a special and is not on the menu. It was a 5 star dish for sure. Everything was balanced well, and the escargot was tender and perfect. My wife had the Salmon entrée, and she said it was the best salmon she’s had in along time. Like everything else we’ve had here, it was perfectly cook. It was a full house tonight, so reservations are a good idea.

Last night while drunkenly walking past I was lured inside by the owner. He stayed open late and took phenomenal care or two random girls from the street. The food was wonderful and fresh, the price point reasonable for the all natural local ingredients. The wine selection just as good and reasonable. Really looking forward to going back

What a great meal. Everything was prepared beautifully and tasted great. The owner and the chef spoke with us, both are very passionate and knowledgeable. Great wine selection, apps(mushroom cakes and cauliflower tart), main(short ribs), dessert(chocolate mousse cake) were all superb. I look forward to coming back again for another great dining experience. Thank you!

Finally New Paltz has a well rounded, well run and by all indications a simple yet consistent approach. Everything ordered was perfect. The wine list is designed by an onsite Sommelier and as of now all bottles are $ 25 — an exceptional value for the cote de rhone we had. The menu selection is simple but very well designed — and that’s a good thing! It was obvious that the Chef prepared each dish with the attention to detail and quality of ingredients in mind. Highly recommended — reservations strongly encouraged due to size. cash only but no-fee ATM available.

We finally tried the new place in town that everyone was talking about! Now we know why!!! We LOVED the appetizer, salad and entrée we had! So much so that I can’t wait to get back and have it again! Although I’ll try to get something different being I’m pretty sure it’ll be just as delicious!!! The place is warm and cozy just like the staff!!! The whole dining experience truly was 5 star! We are VERY lucky to have End Cut in town, cause it’s actually an experience I’d travel to have again!

We are in town from Philly, and we had a feeling that this restaurant would be amazing with it’s interesting and creative menu and we were 100% correct! We started off with the Escargot appetizer, French onion soup, and Poached pear salad. Everything was delicious! It didn’t hurt that we sat across from the classical guitar player who made the meal so relaxing. For dinner we had the braised short ribs and the New York strip special which were cooked perfectly– tender and succulent. The chef is so personable too. We come to New Paltz once a year, and this restaurant will be a regular stop for us.

Stumbled upon this gem(completely by accident) over the weekend and couldn’t have been more pleased! I came into town from NYC and was looking for a nice restaurant to have dinner with my parents. After being put on a wait list at a nearby restaurant down the street we were burning time when I spotted this place(NOTE: It’s on a side street off the main strip so you need to sort of be wondering around to even find it). Despite being practically empty I was immediately drawn to the words«French-Italian» and the chef who was standing outside. I know this sounds stupid, but I just kind of thought to myself…“that guy looks like he can cook.” I quickly did a Unilocal spot-check and confirmed what I had suspected – this place is NEW. As I walked over to look at the menu I spotted all sorts of interesting things, but mainly, Duck. My father loves Duck and he was being grouchy, so it was a no brainer. As we entered the restaurant we picked the window seat. Christian, our waiter greeted us warmly and talked through a few items on the menu and the wine selection. Let’s get down to business. This is what we ordered: Wine –Pinot Grigio. Thought it was very good. As someone mentioned they try to pick the best wines they can and price them all at $ 25. I think everyone wins here. The customer doesn’t break the bank, and the restaurant still probably enjoys good margins. Bread –Warm, a few different types with olive oil – Delicious. Appetizer –Wild mushroom Cakes with avocado pesto and red pepper coulis – This was absolutely fantastic 5⁄5. I think it’s a must order dish. Christian also recommended a side salad with beets which went along with this dish famously. Entrees: –Dad – no surprise – Roasted Duck with cassis berry sauce – Unbelievable 5⁄5. –Me – Shrimp special – 5⁄5 – should be added to the standard menu. –Mom – Braised short ribs – Very good, mom liked it, but I’ll give a 4⁄5. Honestly I just thought the other 2 dishes were better. Dessert: I’m forgetting but I think it was Chocolate Mouse Cake and it was phenomenal. Other Comments: The staff was incredibly nice – and Chef Jordan even stopped by at the end of our meal which was cool. Bring Cash!

«…every bite was authentically delicious.» YOUBETTERCUTTHEPIZZAIN4BECAUSEIMNOTHUNGRYENOUGHTOEAT6 — Yogi Berra The vibes here make anything possible! Its an intimate space with low lighting and a variety of cozy seating options winning at a menu boasting European culinary intentions and the immediacy of fresh local ingredients. Famished and in the hour of Parisian appetites our party of 6 was welcomed through the doors of this charming and intimate new restaurant. Welcomed with familial hospitality we instantly admired the beautiful ambiance — the pleasant flicker of candle-light across the rustic rosy terra-cotta walls — the subliminally alluring architecture of carved out cave-like enclaves fit with several old sun bleached pine and hickory doors that serve as the sturdy European farm style tables. The End-Cut delivers an option which this beautiful town absolutely needs; a comfortable yet quality family culinary joint fit for the folks that doubles as suitable grounds for an intimate Goodfellas shop talk. The menu offers a simple elegance that is expected of a French-Italian Cuisine — Beet & Goat Cheese Salad perfectly crisp and rich — Eggplant perfectly Cooked — delectable SAUCE– hot fresh baked bread. We collectively clinked our Côtes du Rhôné and leaned back in complacent satisfaction. Delighted with our wonderful meals we were surprised when we then received a hot new dish of homemade mushroom raviolis followed by a salmon and dill dinner and finished with a lemon and apple tart. At every bite we thought — «Oh, we couldn’t possibly(?!),» but, we did … and every bite was authentically delicious.
