I have been a vegetarian/vegan for over a decade, but I have warm memories of coming here with my grandparents on Friday nights as a teenager. It is a place you would want to come with family – the age range skewed older, with many retirees, the furniture was dark and solid with some maritime décor. Not a place you would necessarily come to with shorts, definitely more«nice dinner out» feel. It is a seafood restaurant and as such very much met expectation – the dishes were always delicious – I remember ordering shrimp scampi and the Fisherman’s platter, which kept us coming back. It could get crowded at times but that gave it a good atmosphere. We never had any problems with the service.

We live out of state but were visiting family in New Hyde Park. We went here in September 2013 and everything was delicious. We couldn’t wait to try it again. We went Thursday evening. The 4of us arrived at 5 and the owner rushed to turn on the lights declaring we were the first guests. To quickly summarize — My husband and I ordered the same meal I had last year(seafood platter). It was tasteless, no seasoning at all. We had coconut shrimp as an appetizer which was rubbery although the breading was good. The shrimp and scallops on my plate were also rubbery tasting and the breading on them was bland as well. My cousin had the barley soup as an appetizer which was unseasoned and had a weird thickening agent in it. When we mentioned it to the owner he said that is how his clientele likes it. We understand this is new ownership. I wanted cheesecake for dessert and was told they don’t serve it. What? I am in NY of course I want cheesecake. Waitress never visited our table. Had to flag her down for tartar sauce never refilled cousin’s soft drink. Had to flag her down for the check which she never brought. Owner brought it. Sat at the table and finally other waitress picked it up. Still, restaurant was pretty crowded with senior citizens when we left so I guess what it’s doing is working, but I think it is that it is close to a senior condo across the street. BTW, we are also senior citizens, so it isn’t some ‘youngster’ complaining.

Pisces 1 has always been a place that my family would travel far and wide to patronize. «We can’t get a piece of fish like this where we live,» is what I have heard forever. And with the chef(Jimmy) still in charge of this kitchen, the quality of entrees should stay that way. Salads(or soup) and sides are included and always delish. And the service… it’s like being at a family member’s house.

Service is excellent. I had the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer and I had the seafood combo broiled with the lobstertail. It was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place for good seafood.

I do agree that the crowds here are older but the service was pretty good here. Our waitress and a gentleman who I believe is the owner was extremely attentive and friendly. Our waitress came back a couple of times to check if everything was alright. Even the man who I believe is the owner stopped by to check on us. They greeted us with a smile every time. Food was good. Served hot. Cooked JUST right. Price is fair also. Seafood tasted fresh and the presentation was good. It’s a quiet setting not too crowded and not too loud. Definitely a great place for conversation with close friends and family. Looking forward to my next meal here.

Always love this place. Can’t believe some of the bad reviews as the food is always fresh and delicious, the staff attentive and the owner is so friendly and makes and effort to get to know all his customers. We are in our late 40’s and not 75-years-old so you can’t believe everything you read, but the place is more old school in terms of its atmosphere. Great place if you want a quiet evening of talk and great food.

Pisces One is strictly for the blue-haired set — if you’re under 75-years-old, you will likely feel out of place here. But, if you’re over 75, this menu is designed with you in mind. The«fresh» fish is prepared 50’s style, flavorless and topped with sawdust-like paprika, which adds only coloring. A special entrée, orange roughy, was overcooked to the point of bone dry and could not possibly have been fresh — the texture of fresh fish is vastly different with a flavor reminiscent of the sea. Not this. We asked if the clams in the linguine and clam sauce are fresh, and we were told, yes these are fresh clams. But this is only partly true. .. a tiny part. There were, indeed, two fresh clams on top of the mound of linguine, but the rest were clearly canned clams. Easy to tell, because canned clams are never in their shells, and rather than the briny flavor of clams all we got was the intense flavor of salt, a tell-tale indicator of canned seafood. But, hey, if you grew up in the 20′, 30’s or 40’s, this kind of fare may seem like comfort food to you. I, however, prefer true freshness and food possessed of real flavor.

Very true statement about the place being a reunion of Boca in Florida. The fish was very dry and not too tasty. Also they had only 1 waitress for the whole place so service was subpar. BTW how does one overcook a sweet potato?

DON’T GOHEREATALL! Waitress are nasty, the owner is nasty! We went there this past Wednesday for restaurant week(they were on the list as participating) First, the waitress was very rude and didn’t know what we were talking about when we asked what the fixed price dinner was for restaurant week. So I called the owner(or manager) over to ask about the confusion. When I mention the $ 25 fixed price dinner(and even showed them that they are participating based on the Queens website), the owner was peeved and said(nastily) «What do you expect to get for $ 25? And he never heard about restaurant week. What nerve. So we up and walked out. I can tell you the food is pricey(looking at the menu) and by looking at other tables, not much on the plate for the price you are paying. I’d give it 0 * if this website allowed it. STAYAWAY

Service is amazing. Seafood is outstanding. The fish competes with the finest restaurants anywhere.

Old school and old crowd makes me feel like I’m in Boca. The menu even has a recession special. I have been here twice and would come again.
