The Quick: So sad to say Kawa has closed. It was my favorite spot to get unlimited sushi and sushimi. Plus it was BYOB with no corkage fee… RIP

Kawa is a great AYCE sushi place. It used to be a Chinese Food Buffet. They are known for their fancy presentation — ie: incorporating a martini glass into your platter. But the presentation really depends on which chef makes your sushi. The Volcano roll is awesome but sometimes it comes with the spicy tuna on top… and sometimes it doesnt hahaha. Regardless, great place after ERA Sushi.

Let me start out by saying that I am not the same Sushi aficionado as many as my fellow elites but I thought that KAWA Sushi was absolutely first class!!! This restaurant was spacious, bright with nice background music paying all evening. Everything is ordered via two sheets of paper… A kitchen menu and a sushi menu. I was very impressed with the amount of food on the Kitchen menus as this makes it very easy for a group to dine there and not have to be a sushi person. We started by ordering the vegetable spring rolls and gyoza, pork gyoza and fried wontons… Everything was delicious. My only concern here was the amount of food they gave us… It was enormous. I suggested that they cut it in half as it’s all you can eat so people could easily get more if they wanted it. We also had edamame, Udan and Miso soup… again the bowl of Udan soup was clearly enough for a table to share. Now the Sushi, sashimi and rolls… Salmon, Tuna, white tuna, yellow fin, crispy tuna and salmon… multiple times. It was fresh, tasty, good temperature and you cold keep ordering more.(I think they have an hour and a half rule that they probably enforse during peek dinner times.) They also make it very clear that if you leave over large amounts of food… you will be charged the«a la carte» price for the leftovers. The staff was terrific!!! Clearly they work as a team so we never had to wait for a particular person… they all served and bussed the tables. Dessert was special, OREO Tempura, Banana Tempura and a dish of Vanilla Ice Cream. Do I really need to elaborate on the Oreo part of this??? I definitely recommend KAWA Sushi with a suggestion of coming with at least four people… and make sure your all very hungry.

Never ever order from this restaurant. Firstly learn how to speak to customers, then starting a business okay? Gave you $ 5 as delivery tips last time and get ur dirty words of $ 2 tips this time? Full of Sushi in your brain? Do not even deserve one star.

Service can be a little slow… However this place is the most inexpensive, delicious all you can eat buffet! I definitely recommend this place!!!

First time here. We used to come when it was red ginger. The food is good if not better then red ginger. The variety is very wide for a sushi buffet. The price is just 21.95.

Currently, Kawa is my go to place for AYCE sushi. The quality of the fish is always decent, and the variety of cooked to order food is pretty awesome. Their Pad-Thai, fried rice, and coconut shrimp is a staple for my family and I, and I almost always go for the hot & sour soup, which comes out piping hot. There’s also some fun stuff like bacon wrapped quail eggs and miso eggplant on their kitchen menu that you don’t find in other AYCE sushi joints. The sashimi and sushi are fresh, and while their«special rolls» are really the same thing but in various combinations(a.k.a spicy this and that with eel sauce and blah blah blah), they’re pretty darn tasty. Try the volcano roll! Plus, what more can you ask for when fried oreo is on the menu for dessert? For $ 19.95, including drinks and dessert, I say this place is a local favorite. OH… and let’s not forget about the BYOB! Downfall: the service is pretty slow and the sushi chefs go a little crazy when it gets busy. For instance, your order of 8 tuna sushi can turn into 4 tuna sushi and 7 pieces of salmon sushi, or they’ll simply leave out your order of red clams for the 3rd time. But hey, that’s why you get to write it again and again on the those paper menus, right? I try to stay away on weekends and I always try limiting my party to 8 or less.

Another player in the AYCE sushi division, Kawa serves the New Hyde Park area quite well. Very reasonably priced at $ 19.95 including beverage, Kawa has a nice assortment of options on the AYCE platform — I can’t speak to the a la carte menu as I’ve never tried it, but the food I’ve had has consistently been quite good, plenty of options both cooked and raw Like most of these places, the service is a tad aloof but it’s never unfriendly… I guess my only complaints would be that there’s a $ 1 upcharge for brown rice — stupid, but not a deal breaker… also, not quite sure why the shumai come out crispy and obviously friend when it’s supposed to be a steamed dish — i will inquire one of these days otherwise a solid choice for those looking to either binge or explore new items without breaking the bank

Sushi is good here. All you can eat 20 bucks! Not a bad deal. The food came out fast, i really dont understand how all you can eat sushi places stay in buisness. I went with 6 people had maybe 300 pieces of sushi not one leftover bill came to 120. If we went to kashi in huntington or ginza in massapequa the bill would be 500 to 600 easy.

This place is amazing. My boyfriend and I use to go to a similar sushi restaurant but after coming to this place we will never go back there. The food is excellent especially for all you can eat. The servers are awesome and very accommodating. ALSOBYOB. you really can’t beat. Oh, and their fried Oreos are literally the best thing since they invented the wheel. 5 stars… with out a doubt.

Seriously people? Where did your servers learn how to speak to customers!!! So let me start from the beginning… My friend’s family and mine, totaled 8 people. We say down quickly enough… at first glance the ambiance is cute. There’s a little«bridge» when you first walk in and a koi pond that kids love. The first thing we were asked is if we were ordering all you can eat, of course we replied yes. So we sit down and order a bunch of the appetizer dishes, most of which were freshly made… but came out at such a speed that we couldn’t fit all of them on the table. We literally had to divvy up a plate just to fit what the server was bringing to the table. Sushi/Sashimi…is fine… I mean, as long as it’s fresh, what can you do to make that stuff stand out? Oh the thing that DID stand out was the soy sauce and wasabi were both weak as hell. Finally get to thinking about dessert as we’re trying finish off some of our last orders, so we ask for their dessert order form. First thing the witch of a server says is, «you better eat everything or we will charge you». SERIOUSLY…I mean SERIOUSLY!!! Learn some effing manners. Obviously this POS joint is crossed off my list.

Came here AGAIN but actually sat for out meal in the restaurant. We did the all you can eat buffet – $ 21.95 per person and 100% worth it. All you can eat for 1.5 hours: Apps, Dinner, Dessert. They only charge you extra if you leave«excessive amounts of food», we left about 5 sushi rolls that we just could not finish and they didn’t charge us extra, so I’m assuming it has to be a lot let on the plate. They give you so much food and tons of options. Service was attentive and friendly. I highly suggest the vegetable udon and the vegetable srping rolls. This is now our spot for Fridays after work.

The sushi, sashimi, noodles and soups were all very good. The service was not that great though. Our meals came out late as a result of the waiters/waitresses forgetting our orders. The food made up for it though. I don’t recommend the green tea ice cream. It was way too salty.

It’s not as good the second time around. Everything had gone south the second time I went there to eat with my friends. From food to service to wait staffs’ attitude. First, food… There were some dishes that I enjoyed eating from my first visit. So of course I ordered them again this time. The miso soup had no taste. The udon was just mediocre. The sashimi was cut extremely thin. I also ordered the salmon skin salad but they managed to forget it. I tried to order it again and they brought it out, which just showed that they forgot the first time I ordered it. I regretted ordering it. The salmon skin was filled with scales. It was such a bad feeling to have scales in my mouth that I had to go to the bathroom to scrape them out. It was not pleasant. The rolls were just okay. Nothing special to mention about. I had better at other restaurants. The takoyaki was not good. The shrimp tempura did not taste good at all. The vegetable tempura was the best food we had. Second, forgetting our order? We also ordered 65 pieces of sashimi again and the waiter that took our order managed to forget to submit it. When a waitress finally came around to us asking if we were ready for the check we told her that our 65 pieces of sashimi never came. She went to check the order and informed us that the sushi chefs never received our order. She went to get us another menu to place the order. The menu was the original menu that we had placed the order. The waiter never submitted the order thinking that we had more than enough and would not ask for more. WOW isn’t it? When the sashimi finally came the tuna had a different color red color than the tuna we had the first round and it tasted unfresh. If you don’t want us to eat a lot then don’t make your restaurant all you can eat. Purposely forgetting our orders was not the way to go. Put a sign saying that there is a limit to how much you can eat. My friends and I are the type that will tell you what’s wrong and we did. The wait staffs’ attitude totally changed because we told them that what they did was wrong. Your customers’ critic should be what you need to change but to be pissed about. Between having unpleasant salmon skin scales in my mouth and forgotten orders we will never return there again.

The service is good and the food is pretty good. It’s comparable to sushi village but has more options. The wait for the sushi is fast, but the wait for the appetizers is really slow, especially if you ordered the shrimp tempura or the udon(I had to order it twice), there is a limited amount of staff, just two or three which is probably why the wait was so long. Compared to other sushi buffets such a mizumi, sushi village, or nori nori, their ice cream is mediocre. Definitely don’t forget to try the Handrolls! They were the best. All in all, the food is pretty good and the atmosphere is good besides the dim lights. The food is worth the price!

I had high hopes based on the previous review, but unfortunately I’m not as enamored by this place as others have been. Stopped in for lunch with a colleague and ordered the all you can eat lunch. Ordered miso soup, which was good, an avacado salad and a variety of sushi, sashimi and rolls, and unfortunately none of them impressed. Way too heavy on the use of the ground fish, and the sushi portions were small(I get that it’s AYCE, don’t blow me up for mentioning the portion sizes). The rolls were marginal at best, not great flavor. A couple were barely palatable, and since we didn’t want to finish them, we got charged an extra $ 3 for not finishing everything. Not a big deal, I didn’t complain at all, but we didn’t finish them because of taste, not because we were full. Not likely to go back, but good luck to those that do.

Service got a lot better, and the portions a lot smaller and manageable. Quality I have got to say improved and the sashimi were cut a lot better than the first time I had it. There’s lots of seating, reason being the bad location, soo little foot traffic. I think they listened to many of the bad reviews early in the business and fixed many of the things that were wrong but this place is now a worthy sushi AYCE spot. They have added a lot of cooked items from the kitchen onto the menu so it has a great balance of cooked food and sushi.

Who doesn’t love an all you can eat sushi place, that also includes hot food? I would love this place if it didn’t take about 45 minutes to get my food. They have a great selection and the hot food is pretty decent. Better than the sushi, unfortunately though. They have some great specialty rolls, but the fish isn’t fresh and they don’t clean the salmon skin, so yes, you will have a mouth full of scales. I’ve been to this place twice and after my last encounter, I will not be back. Our«quick» dinner turned into a 3 hour dinner and we only ordered food twice. We had to wait at least 45 minutes to an hour to get each order and they didn’t even give us the full order. Very disappointed — the one AYCE place that I don’t want to go back to.

Kawa Sushi truly is a gem in this area. They have All You Can Eat sushi for ~$ 20, and the quality of the sushi is great. Take note that this is NOT a buffet, all of the sushi is made fresh to order, and there is an extensive all you can eat menu is quite extensive. In addition to this, if you do all you can eat the other menu items not listed for ½ off. Besides the price point though, the sushi quality really is remarkable for the area. In the hand rolls the sushi chefs make sure to include both muscular and fatty areas of the fish, and the sashimi is thinly sliced and in abundance. The Tiger Roll is great, and the fluke is always fresh and melts in your mouth. The hot foods on the all you can eat menu are delicious and tapas style. The service is warm, and the owner Jimmy is a veteran sushi chef and engenders a welcoming environment with the staff. The waiters are friendly, and conversations with them and the owner are always enjoyable. The owner has been a sushi chef for over a decade and exposits a wealth of knowledge about how he chooses the fish, the careful nature with which he cuts, and the different flavors present in different parts of the same fish. In the interest of posting a balanced review, I’d say that the parking lot is really too small for the weekends when this place is very busy, and street parking in the area is a bit of a hassle. But in all, this is definitely the great local place I seem to end up going to nearly every other weekend. I’ve had the take out here once and it was good, but certainly the best sushi is fresh sushi, so this fantastic place is worth checking out yourself.
