Compares to the Madison FishTales! If you want good seafood and be waited on this is the Fish Tales to come to! I don’t know why the Westbrook Fish Tales is not the level of these two places. Only downside is count your change before you leave. Was late for appointment and only realized that the change was wrong. My fault for not counting before I left! Otherwise great seafood, nice location, great prices!

Very disappointed with this place tonight. The waiter was not attentive at all forgetting my tartar sauce. Place wasn’t even busy. We waited 20 mins to sit at a table which was empty since we arrived. First and last time at Lenny and Joe’s Fish Tale…

Another great experience at Lenny and Joe’s at Long Wharf. We sat at the bar and John was our bartender. He was great, knowledgeable, friendly and personable!!! He recommended the karmapomarita. Great drink, the seafood platter was delicious and the view of New Haven harbor is picturesque. The prices are very reasonable. All that said… I have frequented this resturant since they opened. We don’t love the clam chowder at all. They need a new receipe. Otherwise I’d give them an A

Food is very poor quality. It had been a while since I’d been the area, and so I had not know Leon’s had moved. I went there with a larger party, and i am so very ashamed I to took them out to eat here. I am also ashamed at how much I spent here for what I got. I will never be coming here again. I’ll give it two stars because the server was very nice.

A decent place for seafood. Not great, just decent. Went to the FishTail for the 50 cent oyster and clam raw bar. Ordered a dozen Blue Point oysters and little neck clams. Delish… We thought that the clams were a little too large to be little necks, possibly Top necks, but still sweet and tasty. Hey, 50 cents each, you can’t beat that anywhere. We shared an order of fried whole belly clams and a baked stuffed shrimp entrée. Good, but not great. The clams were slightly over cooked and one step above clam strips. Not very meaty. We finished the baked stuffed shrimp with reservations. There was something«off» about this dish, possibly the crabmeat stuffing. All in all, just«OK». The food was presented well and our server was great. There was just no «WOW» factor. They also have to stop using Sysco French fries and onion rings. Please make them fresh! I am giving 3 stars only because of the fresh oysters, the rest being just OK

I must admit, but I think this was the worst food we ever ate. Me and my fiancé were visiting from Philadelphia. After long and busy day, I started craving some oysters and some other sea food. A friend who lives in the area recommended this place. When we walked in the door and saw the place on the inside I got excited. It looked like a great spot. Right on the water, great view, cozy sea theme. My excitement didn’t last long. First was the chowder. I love chowder and I make it myself of the time. Chowder should be creamy. What we got looked like barely warm water with a drop of milk in it(for the white color I guess). On the bottom we found something that looked like a hair ball and some chopped potatoes. No chunks of fish at all. And it tasted terrible. We had to send it back because it was simply uneatable. After came some steamed mussels, with butter sauce on the side. For some reason I was expecting the mussels to be cooked in the sauce and served in the sauce with some bread. Plain steamed mussels didn’t taste good either, but at least they were fresh. It was my fault of not reading the description of the dish correctly. After that my soft shell crab arrived with some fries and steamed veggies on the size. Breaded dry soft shell crab on a bun with a small cup of relish on the side. I just ate the crab and the relish. Vegetables were tasteless. My fiancé got some breaded shrimp and and calamari. He ate some, but after we walked out he said that his meal was terrible and he regretted coming there. Guys, you have so much potential at this place and location is great. But you really need a better chef. But the service was great. Girl was really helpful.

I have come here several times and it never gets any better. soggy fried foods whole clams that look like strips. just not great. I am disappointed with this place. my wife likes to feed the seagulls when we sit outside. but there are much better places to eat fried seafood than here. if you want nice water views it’s a nice place but the views don’t cure the cold soggy seafood. don’t order ‘premium” whole clams you will be disappointed. I had crab cakes this time they were also Luke warm. don’t bother.

Came here for the first time today. I don’t eat seafood so it wouldn’t be my first choice but none the less, it was good. The view from the bar is really beautiful and worth an extra star. I ordered the fried jalapenos, they’re not your usual frozen poppers but much better!!! I had the steak filet for lunch. I asked for it medium rare and it was deff closer to medium well. The ginger sauce on it made it really good though regardless of being over cooked to my liking. The service was fast. I’d probably come back but just for a drink sense the menu is very limited to someone who doesn’t like seafood(not that i expected otherwise).

Popped in for a quick dinner as we were in a hurry to get home and their New Haven location did not disappoint. Quick, friendly and accommodating service on a Sunday night. The seafood is fresh, prepared just right and the kitchen is very light handed with the salt — that’s excellent for everyone because you can use their sea salt to season your dish to your taste. Best fried zucchini strips I’ve had in my entire life! Order it — very thin batter that is lightly seasoned and fried, then the zucchini melts in your mouth — watch out, the first bite is very hot. Next time will try their onion rings. When we were there, clams on the half shell were $ 1 each as a Sunday dinner special — fresh and wonderfully briny with a cocktail sauce that doesn’t overpower. So, a dozen was easy to swallow. As for my Lobster Mac and Cheese — I had a lobster in every bite so it isn’t ‘lobster flavored mac! Cheese was well melted but also didn’t take over the dish — because it really is about the lobster, isn’t it? The lobster pieces were tender and chunky — there were even long sweet tasting pieces from the legs that we’re usually too lazy to squeeze out when we cook lobster at home. Oh wait, be sure to eat the entire loaf of warm bread with butter — it tastes better than Outback’s big chain baked bread! The rush service didn’t compromise the food in any way — everything cooked just right and piping hot. So glad they are in this location that’s closer to Fairfield, much easier than trekking to Westbrook or to Madison. Also, window table was nice, watched the Supermoon rise over New Haven harbor before the lunar eclipse.

Our server during lunch was great. He was attentive; making sure our drinks were never empty, and getting anything we needed without being annoying. However, for being a seafood spot we were disappointed with the food. The crab cakes just tasted off, and the scallops in a roll were gross. I’ve had better food at small seafood shacks that charge less. This place has a view of the sound, but I wouldn’t call it an amazing view. Overall we were nonplussed about the place and wouldn’t be enthusiastic to return unless it was just for drinks and maybe the raw bar for oyster and mussel specials on Fridays.

Yesterday’s lunch experience was excellent. Outdoor seating on their patio, overlooking Long Island Sound, great food and friendly professional service were all in place. We had a lobster roll($ 16.95 with a side) and a Lunch Special — Broiled Combination Fresh Sea Scallops and Gulf Shrimp($ 13.99) with slaw and a choice of potato or rice. I also had a cup of Rhode Island style chowder. The Lobster Roll was terrific –and the zucchini fries were a nice touch. My Combo special was pretty good too. Maybe I could quibble about the excess pool of melted butter in the seafood? The chowder was excellent –absolutely loaded with diced potatoes and clams. I added a little S&P to make it perfect. Our young server was super polite and very attentive, he brought out drink refills without us asking. So now having been to all three L&J’s, I can say that these guys sure know what they are doing !!

50 € oysters on Fridays and happy hour are a must! The service is okay, rude bartenders and the hostesses are extremely nice and accommodative. I usually don’t seat at the bar during happy hour but my friend was visiting and he wanted to try the place since he’d never been there. Bartenders are kinda rude especially when making requests. They totally forgot that we asked for extra lemons 15 min later we asked again and with an attitude the guy gives us two more lemons… really? They dont seem to manage well when busy, they have attitudes and have clientele preferences… I will stick to my Friday dates getting a table instead! Thanks for the rudeness.

We weren’t expecting much from this restaurant-and it delivered to our expectations: average food and less than average service. The iced tea was old, the calamari bland, and we sat with our finished appetizer plates during the entire meal. The server was sweet, but maybe in the weeds. If you’re going for a water view this is the restaurants only redeeming quality… If something else is open nearby I would recommend rolling the dice.

We like coming to Lenny and Joes for their raw bar and the view of the sound. Menu offers both fried seafood and casserole style.

Stopped in for lunch today, it’s been a while since we’ve been back to this Lenny & Joe’s location. My wife started out with a Bloody Mary — was awesome, she enjoyed it so much, she had another later in the meal. The bread that came to the table was soft and tasty. My wife ordered the Lobster Roll platter, I went with the Scallops dinner. Scallops were very good. Coleslaw was also very good, tasty. My only complain was the tarter sauce provided came in a tiny cup, way too little. The wife wasn’t thrilled with the Lobster Roll — the meat was tough & chewy, was definitely over-cooked. She liked everything else on her plate though, but she wished she had ordered the scallops instead. But the main reason I’m giving Lenny & Joe’s of New Haven a 3 Star rating today is the service — our waitress had a miserable attitude. Never came around to ask us how we were doing(she walked by the table several times), plopped the bill down in front of us and walked away w/o a word. The other tables got the similar«service». We’ll come back to Lenny & Joe’s again though, think we’ll sit at the bar next time.

Have heard about this place for years and finally had a chance to go for lunch. It’s a big, classic«seafood joint» right on the water in New Haven… nothing too fancy, nice and casual. The lobster roll I had was great, and reasonably priced. Great service. Would love to come back for dinner and enjoy a beer or cocktail on the deck overlooking the water… that sadly was not an option before a client meeting.

First time here and craving seafood in New England. Lobster bisque was excellent with plenty of pieces of lobster and a really nice flavor to the bisque. The onion rings were lightly breaded so not super greasy and had nice flavor. The calamari was also light and tasty as was all the seafood. A few of the oysters were so big that they actually were not very good fried and probably would have been better on the half shell. Service was good and restaurant was nice and clean with nice ambiance and great views. Large full bar with plenty of seating. Definitely would be back on next trip to visit my son.

It’s definitely good seafood, but it’s not the classic Lenny & Joes experience as others have so eagerly pointed out in their own reviews. On it’s own merits, it’s a great place to eat and the service has always been wonderful, of the dozens of times I’ve gone I’ve never had any issues. Like everywhere else, portions go down while price goes up and Fish Tail isn’t an exception. Seafood has been hit pretty hard everywhere except the docks, and I’m glad they’ve kept roughly the same menu all these years for the same prices. Some tips: Fisherman’s Platter is a definite must if its your first time here. The only healthy options are the grilled fish with lemon. Oysters are 50cents each on Friday. If the clams are sandy/bad they send the whole batch back and don’t get new ones until the next week.

It was good. We brought a friend who was visiting form the south and she had her first ever lobster roll. She’s still talking about it, months later. Its family friendly which is nice. The stuffed shrimp were good. I’d go back. Easy to go for seafood without a reservation with a group too.

Boyfriend and I decided we wanted seafood after a lazy day, so we went over here – somewhere new, for us. We were seated outside, with a nice open area. The view isn’t great(yea, Long Wharf!) but it’s nice to get somewhat fresh area. Our waitress was amaaaazing. I let her know I was Celiac and she was awesome in advising what I could eat, what had it’s own fryers/grills etc – even offering to show me the box of rice they use to check the ingredients. Basically, I can eat ¾ of the menu safely. We ended up with some oysters and clams(which are somewhat pricey for the area, but they were tasty) for an appetizer. Marc then got a hot lobster roll and I went with the salmon. The salmon was fresh and fell apart – I was a happy girl. Our bill didn’t end up being too bad. There are other seafood places we enjoy more and places we want to try, but I can see us going back again during the summer. Looked like they had decent happy hour deals as well.
