Madi & Mia’s Cafe

I’m surprised Madi & Mia’s only has 10 reviews. This is one of the busier lunch spots downtown, and with good reason.
The things they do well, they do VERY well. The steak and cheese is excellent, and the other thing they do very well is probably a bit surprising: the rigatoni ala vodka. It is great, as good as you’ll get at a sitdown restaurant where it will be double the price (with one small caveat — the overall quality seems to depend a little on who’s cooking that day, though it’s always at least good).
The menu is extensive, and the truth is, not everything works. For example, the salads I’ve tried have been kind of meh (the ‘Pacific Rim’ and one of the others), and the turkey on foccaccia I didn’t enjoy.
Service is about the friendliest you’ll encounter downtown.
Once you figure out your go-​to items, the only negative is the wait. This is definitely a place you want to call your order in before heading over, as you’ll otherwise be waiting 10 – 15 minutes or more and there isn’t much room inside to wait.

Well olé chap Madi and Mias is a great great great place for lunch. I normally dont like going places with bigger menus due to the fact i questions their freshness. What M&Ms does is create dishes with similar ingredients all with their own twist.
For example i had a turkey club wrap (boring i know but im fat so im trying to watch what i eat) but what they added was a cranberry mayo that literally blew my mind. Cranberry mayo… is this real like you may ask. Yes it is.
Then they have an array of sandwiches, salads, soups, wraps, pizzas, and a couple of pastas and pizzas. To be honest i have never been let down from this place. They will have a like starting at about 1145 for the lunch rush so get there by 1144 if you dont want to wait.
Best part is this place, against the normal new haven prices, does not break the bank for lunch creating items for 6 – 7 $ that are filling. Well worth it.
If you dont like this place feel free to keep that to yourself because you sit on a throne of lies.

A great place to go if you want to get ripped off. Have ordered deli sandwiches, like ham or salami, on hard roll a couple times now. Hardly put on any meat or cheese. Like, seriously pathetic amounts. Scant tomato, and one tiny slice of onion. Can you spare it?! Have had other things here, that were good (like chicken parm or buffalo chicken sandwiches). But I hate the feeling of being ripped off. Especially since it has happened to me more than once. For six and change, expect more than a salami and cheese slider.

I’ve gotten lunch here many times, and I really can’t get enough! Their salads are HUGE! I really love their pacific rim salad, and the wontons it comes with are delicious! I was really disappointed with it the second time I got it though, since they were chicken wontons and the first time they were vegetable (I’m a vegetarian). Thank goodness I cut them open first! But even without the wontons the salad is delicious! Especially the orange dressing, ohgoodness.
Their portobello sandwich is also amazing! They make this herb cream cheese that goes on it and it’s delicious. I want one right now. I’ve also had their white bean hummus wrap, which is incredible. The hummus is so flavorful and the sharp cheddar that goes with it is perfect.
They know what they’re doing here! It gets PACKED for lunch, so plan your visit accordingly!

This place rocks! This is really the place to go for lunch because of their wide selection. I ordered the spicy pork quesadilla and the turkey club and they were both very good. The pork was tender and juicy but its more like a taco than a quesadilla. They also have different salads, pastas and pizza! Next time I wanna try the mashed potato pizza. Yum yum! It’s too bad that they close at 3 pm and closed on the weekends. :(

maybe they just had an off day with the chicken wings. southwest salad is about the best salad i’ve ever had.

I agree with Tom S. I order from here a couple of times a month and have always enjoyed the meals. Favorites includes the apple Gorgonzola salad and grilled chicken sandwich but their specials are always interesting AND good. Love the pickles!

Really surprised to see only two reviews and one bad one at that. I eat here at least twice a week and it never gets old due to the extensive and diverse cheap lunch options. I’ve had sandwiches, pasta, salads, and quesadillas, and they’re all amazing! Friendly people, tasty quick food, and good value – I don’t know what else you could ask for in a lunch place. It’s always crowded (but not to the point of being annoying) and most customers are repeat ones. Try it out!

I like Madi & Mia’s quite a bit. They have an excellent selection of lunch options and the quality that I’ve seen has been exceptional. I’ve had a lot of different things from here, but I think my favorite is the Napa Turkey Sub, but the specials you can find on the website are also excellent and normally quite substantial. Sometimes I think it’s a little overpriced, but the sandwiches are huge and good. And I’d rather have a big, filling, tasty sandwich for a little more than something from… Subway.
Also, if you have a small office and need or order lunch in for one reason or another, they do a great job at large orders if you call ahead and have chips, pickles, cookies and drinks available.
