Great selection of beer and good food. i loved the little touches of having nuts and popcorn as snacks. also quite enjoyed my crème brûlée. didn’t love the trout i ordered, but it was by no means bad. i would definitely go back!

Cask Republic is a solid establishment in New Haven, and despite my three star rating I consider it one of my go-to bar/restaurant/hangout spots. The proximity to my apartment makes it an easy choice when pressed to make last-minute dinner decisions. The beer selection is typically very good, though not as extensive as Prime 16’s around the corner. The happy hour deals are good for cocktails, though kind of lame that it’s only $ 1 off of draught beers. The food is reliably good. I’ve had most of their salads and would say that the butternut squash salad with shaved endive and the duck confit salads are my favorites. Both are a generous portion and don’t leave you feeling jealous of everyone else who ordered something more substantial. So why the three star rating? Service is plus or minus; I sometimes feel like I’m being rushed out of this place, though I do sympathize because it’s usually pretty busy in there. The happy hour deal is by no means the best you can find in New Haven. And overall, it’s not the most noteworthy restaurant in downtown NHV and if I wasn’t so lazy at researching places I probably wouldn’t fall back on Cask so much. Given that I’m unwilling to change my laziness, I’ll be back probably monthly; see you soon Cask!

LOVETHISPLACE! Let me tell you, I was blown away by the customer service during my last visit. A group of my friends and myself stopped in for a bite and a brew. Upon our arrival we were unable to get a seat at the bar and the wait for a table was about 45 minutes. The couch seating area located near the entrance was available at the time. After deciding to occupy that specific area, we had been seated no more than 3 minutes when a member of the staff came over and asked if we had been taken care of. Our drink orders were placed and during the meantime, another staff member came over to confirm we had been taken care of. The fact that we had two people come over so quickly with the willingness to provide such a high caliber of service was refreshing. Shortly after we transitioned to the bar for the remainder of our visit. While sitting at the bar we asked our bartender for some recommendations on food. He recommended the turkey Reuben, the chili, and the pretzel. I am a huge fan of enjoying a freshly baked pretzel with my beer and Cask Republic provided me with just that. All of the bartender’s recommendations were spot on. It was my boyfriend and our friend’s first time there. I wanted them to experience why I love this place so much, and that they definitely did. The beer selection at Cask Republic has something for everyone, whether it is a draft or bottled, they have you covered. I liked the fact that Cask Republic had a different variety of draft beers that none of the other places we went to had. They variety of local brews excited me and allowed for a tasting of never seen before options. Their drink options span much further than beers alone, they offer a wide variety of scotches, bourbons, and whiskeys. Their menu for these different types of spirits is impressive. If wine is more your speed, then don’t worry. There is a selection of red and white wines by the glass, if that is more of what you are looking for. I am usually always conflicted when ordering my drink, it is always between a cocktail or a beer. A personal favorite for me is the Cask Margarita. If you are in the downtown area of New Haven, I would say stop in and at least have a beer. You will not be disappointed with the service and the offerings. Never plan on stopping in when their is a Yale vs Harvard game… a word to the wise.

Their drink«the fall downer» is amazing! We went one day and they were out of the hot cider and lots of other drinks but the waiter was very accommodating and gave good alternatives such as THEFALLDOWNER! Then, for food: definitely get the lamb Reuben, kettle corn, clam chowder, goat cheese fondue! Aah drooling thinking about all this. Definitely go, and they have happy hour deals.

I’ve been to Cask a number of times and always have a great experience, no matter if I’m there for dinner or just for drinks. They have an outstanding beer selection, which was initially my draw to the place. You’re bound to find a mix of rare gems alongside some great craft mainstays. They also have nice wine and cocktail lists. But they provide a great experience outside of drinks. The atmosphere is cozy, comfortable and friendly. Service is always excellent, and I’m even greeted with a smile by the bar staff during times when they’re very busy. On top of that, the food is excellent. I’ve tried everything from the authentic Irish shepherds pie to a duck confit salad. All delicious. Overall, I highly recommend coming here. You will not be disappointed.

Empanadas are good just small one of the small plates dish(come with 2 great sauce). Had the chicken pesto Pizza yummy and the quesadillas are good. Try my choices let me know what you think.

I really like this place. Great on weekday evenings for dinner and also a great place to grab drinks with a few friends on weekend nights. It gets busy on late evenings on weekends, which is great if you’re out on the town for an evening. The food is good, decently-priced, and comes with good service. Craft beers galore.

3.5 stars. I’ll round up to four. The food is middling to decent depending on what you order. Burger was satisfactory, lamb Reuben was better. My buddy enjoyed the pesto Mac and cheese. Vaguely korean/thai/asian-ish wings also tasty. Cask holds its own food-wise with any of the other pubs around town. Service around the bar has a great feel. Knowledgeable bartenders always compliment a decent beer menu. Of course, beer is where it’s at in the cask republic, and that’s why you come here. Drafts rotate regularly with a good selection of local brews always circulating. Look out especially for sours, gose, lambicks, etc., not too many places to enjoy more cultivated suds around here. Always a solid IPA selection, my personal go to. You can count on a rotating selection of cask pours, too. All around solid. One of my true go-to’s in New Haven.

This place will ALWAYS be my #1 place. As soon as I’m seen in there they automatically know what I need and serve me. Granted I come here all the time, but they’re pretty good at service.(Or from what I’ve always observed). They have a WIDE selection on Anyang everything you may need at a dive bar. Very decent place.

Great place to meet up with a group of friends. They have seating for everyone ranging from booths, tall tables, short tables as well as comfy chairs. Alternatively you won’t be out of place if you simply choose to stand around just like in a British pub to drink and chat. At the weekend it can get a little crowded and you do end up having to fight your way through the crowd to get to your destination. The food menu always looks great. However, the only time I tried any of their fare was when our friend booked a room here to host a party to celebrate the night before their wedding, it was a great space. The food was good considering they were catering for a large group. They have a wide selection of good craft and import beers and there is always something new to try. The prices are pretty standard for this type of bar. I like this bar a lot it has a good vibe.

I came here for a drink, after a happy hour, and I was pleasantly surprised. The beer list is great, always changing, and they do have a vast selection of other drinks. It was a Thursday, and not too crowded, but not too empty, either. For the number of choices and the food(which I didn’t eat, but looked delicious), this might be a four-star place. The two stars is more for the experience. The bartenders had a mid-full bar, but weren’t terribly attentive. We waited for a good 10 minutes before they stopped chatting and even noticed us. Then, one gentleman next to us started harassing us, hitting on us and being a obnoxious with the bartender, us, other people… he was clearly drunk and slurring words. Then he said he was going to drive home 30 miles to put his kids to bed — and the bartenders waved goodbye as he stumbled out. The lack of responsibility on the part of the bartenders made me a little uncomfortable, and the weak service was pretty off-putting. I suppose it depends on what you’re looking for, and I hope that night was just an off-night, but it didn’t leave a great taste in my mouth, and I don’t know that I’d go back unless I had to.

This is my son’s fave place for a latenight gourmet burger! The beer selections’ massive and we’re usually here on a weekend after a nite out somewhere else and we’re famished for something good to eat. Their burgers are seasoned & cooked just to our liking. We’ve returned here many times over(usually between 11p til 1am) and food has been consistently satisfying. This upscale pub is always hopping but considering how busy it is the service is reasonable and food comes in a timely manner after our order’s been placed.

This can be a fun place to bring groups of friends of varying sizes. They have some good food but overall their dishes are hit or miss. It’s some combination of a gastropub and new American cuisine, but they’re just trying to do too many things with the menu and they don’t so enough of them well. Flatbreads are solid, mac & cheese is mediocre, Brussels sprouts are mediocre, wings are okay. I’ve never really been blown away by anything. Their pre-mixed drinks are terrible so save yourself the trouble of getting one. Beer selection is good, and they have plenty of space and some cool seating options. If you’re having a good night already, this place won’t ruin it. But I would never choose to start my night here or eat more than a snack.

Cask Republic is one of the New Haven local bars that features a vast beer menu. Ambiance: They’re a go to spot for large get togethers or a late night spot before or after a night on the the town. The wood floors, tables, walls, etc. create an ambience that’s rustic and manly, which is cool. Drinks: Since I’m not a «beer person», I haven’t tried much, but I can vouch for their hard ciders and their allegash white as great options. Food: The food is good enough, you can’t go wrong ordering a burger, a pizza, or fries. The portions are great too, so you’ll end up full. Service: The service depends on how many people you’re with… If it’s 2 or less, the waiters and waitresses seem much more attentive, however if you’re part of a large group, it may take a while to get your order taken, talk less of your food/drinks. Overall, Cask Republic is a great place to go to for a beer with friends in New Haven.

Such a fabulous brew selection — we came down to Cask from Hartford earlier tonight for their sour beer fest and loved every minute. A huge selection of sours(highlights include the Blueberry Nightmare and Gose Gone Wild) great flights, plus quick & friendly bartenders, and an enthusiastic crowd of beer lovers. Add in a tasty cheese & charcuterie board and you’ve got a pretty solid Monday evening. Wish it was closer but always a treat to visit when I’m in New Haven!

**Disclaimer: Review is for the bar and drinks only, no food was harmed in the making of this review.** Before we headed over to the art gallery, we needed liquid fuel. Cask Republic was a great place to do just that, also conveniently located around the corner from our hotel(the Omni). We were greeted promptly and with a smile when we arrived, and the bartender was quick to take our order. They have a pretty impressive beer list that includes both local and regional ales, separated by type to make it easy to pick your poison. I drank the Sea Hag and the husband got the Lil’ Troll, both local brews(when in Rome…). Both of the beers were delicious, and served at the right temperature. I didn’t get a chance to try their food, but there were definitely some items on the menu that I was intrigued by(I’m looking at you, pesto macaroni and cheese). If our dinner plans fall through, I may have to update this review.

Cask Republic is one of my go to places when we need seating for a large crowd. Their seating area is big and ambience is great. I love sharing their small plates with girlfriends. I also like how they have seasonal menu and fun menus for things like easter and oktoberfest week where every dish has a beer component. Their pesto mac and cheese is to die for. One time on their seasonal menu, they served up this fried pork chop dish and it was seriously the best fried bone-in pork chop I ever had. So sad that with seasonal dishes, sometimes you only have one shot at it. I took away one start because their service can be slow when they get crowded.

We didn’t eat here, but stopped in on our way back to our car for a drink. It took us about five minutes to get the attention of one of the bartenders who was not very friendly. We had a group of about six, and he seemed bothered by helping us. I asked him a question regarding one of the beers on the menu, and he laughed at me for asking the question and answered quite sarcastically. The restaurant itself seemed nice, but I would not return and sit at the bar ever again.

Always good. So good in fact, we go here despite it being rather far from our house. CR has taken the space in our hearts previously occupied by Mikro, due to CRs ability to always have a great tap list, great prices, AVAILABLESEATS, and quick ATTENTIVE service. The burger is never a mistake. It comes on an english muffin slathered with coleslaw and some sort of bacon jam surprise. The beef itself is moist and flavorful without being too heavy.
