When I’m feeling adventurous, I stray off of the paved sidewalks in Boyd Park, cross the quaint bridges, and take my runs to the dirt trail. Birds of every species — ducks, geese, blackbirds, sparrows — zoom out of my way as my feet thump along the ground. My eyes are drawn to colorful flowers growing on either side of the path. A groundhog, a squirrel, a chipmunk rustles in the bushes and pops its head out to stare at me as a run past. I hear splashes in the peaceful water that surrounds me. The highway, just a few hundred feet away, disappears from view and sound and is replaced with greenery and bird sounds. Running, walking, biking, or even sitting in Boyd Park is a peaceful experience, a beautiful way to escape New Brunswick.

Beautiful park right on the Raritan. there are mutiple play areas for kids. An amphitheater where they have summer music series and big fields with trees to lay around in. My personal favorite feature are the landing docks where boats going down the Raritan can dock for a few hours to explore New Brunswick. We just put out a blanket on one of them and laid for some time and enjoyed the gentle rocking of the river. During the daytime, it seemed perfectly safe and we saw a lot of families and couples with dogs walking about.

I love Boyd Park! I work at Rutgers and commute by bike through Boyd. I love watching the crew teams practice. I grew up here and can see first hand in Boyd Park how the ecosystem is in much better shape. The docks are beautiful and I wish I could enjoy then more by having a canoe, kayak or paddle board rentals available.

Who says Jersey isn’t pretty? Lots of greenery, cool amphitheater and skating area, and you can read about the history of the Delaware and Raritan canal. It’s a nice place to have a picnic, go for a walk, run, or just to enjoy the weather. I’m not sure about hanging around by yourself or at night, but use common sense. There’s lots of parking too if you drive here.

nice view of the river here, you can see the Rutgers crew folks training. interesting historical info about the delaware & raritan canal, there is a canal lock to see here. some people go fishing here, there are some picnic tables and places to sit. good place to start or include a run along the river. the new brunswick side of the path gets sketchy between the state route 27 bridge and the route 18 bridge across the river, path is overgrown and frequented by vagrants hanging out drinking fortified wine at 10 am. so if you gonna start a run here recommended to run across the route 27 bridge to highland park and then run along the north side of the river, particularly if you are female, in my opinion.
