The Irish breakfast shot is awesome! I’ve had the sliders, the meatballs, the spinach dip, the oysters can’t go wrong. Everything is good. But the service is better than the food if that’s possible. Do yourself a favor, visit this place.

This place has the BEST fish tacos in town, hands down. I used to go to the Cantina in Gruene but after the Oyster Bar finished their new kitchen and released their new menu items I’ve never looked back, haha. They recently switched from slices of avocado to fresh made guacamole and I think it was a fantastic improvement. They also have a bunch of other food which I’ve tried but 9 times out of ten I still get the fish tacos. For those that want to know, the tacos are mahi mahi and they’re some kind of blackened/cajun style. The tacos include some type of cole slaw and on the side there’s a chipotle ranch sauce and fresh limes. Just a warning: my wife and I can sometimes share the two tacos you get and we’re full so be prepared for plenty of food!

Went twice over the weekend to On the Half Shell and in my opinion they have the best sliders and fries in town! The Bloody Mary’s are great as well! My favorite drink to order. The food comes out to you while it is hot which is great. Will be going back for sure.

I am sad to say that these were the worst oysters I have ever eaten in my entire life. I asked the waitress what kind of oysters they were, and apparently, they are pre-shucked farm raised oysters. I am so sad because it would have been nice to have delicious fresh oysters on the half shell… le sigh. I guess I have to go to San Antonio or Austin to get my oyster fix. The bartender and waitress were super nice, though.

I was told by a friend to come by and try their delicious seafood. Had never thought about having Food here. Had only been here during during a pub crawl. So… Me and my beau were thinking about where to eat and I remembered my friend. My beau had the crab cakes. Totally awesome. I had the friend shrimp. Oh… Yeah… The only thing in would suggest is have more local beers available.

This place gave me FOODPOISONING! We LOVE seafood. So while we explored downtown, we had to check this place out. Ohhh… The regrets. We ordered two beers with a dozen oysters. I had to spit out multiple oysters. They were disgusting. And later in the evening, both my boyfriend and I felt extremely sick. That night, I spent my time throwing up over and over instead of sleeping. Never again. Please don’t go. And if you do, don’t eat the oysters.

It’s my favorite neighborhood bar with a dart board. Great burgers and mahi mahi tacos. Easygoing locals to chat with. It’s where I find myself running into old friends.

It’s a bar. And they happen to serve food. The fries from the shrimp basket were delicious. The crab dip was good. The fish tacos were okay. The oysters did not seem fresh, but they were huge. Someone else said the oysters are from a can and placed on shells for looks. I definitely think that’s accurate. Some oysters didn’t fit their shells, and there were no scallops attached. Makes sense, but I am pretty disappointed. How are you gonna call your restaurant«On the Half Shell Oyster Bar» and sell oysters at «market price» that aren’t fresh? Sneaky. This just happened to be one of the only late night places open that wasn’t some chain restaurant. I wouldn’t suggest anyone come here for a meal. Waitress was great. Music is loud.

The best mahi mahi tacos I’ve ever had. Anywhere. Period. Wonderful Key Lime Pie. Delightful service from Shelby. The tacos had a nice amount of fish, blackened and spicy. The chunks were topped with a delicious ginger slaw and fresh guacamole. I’d asked for hot sauce, but couldn’t bring myself to perturb the perfection of flavors. The Key Lime pie was my second-favorite ever(yes — I keep track!). Individually served in a mini pie pan, the filling had plenty of lime zest, the ingredient that really makes the flavor pop. Service was great — Shelby was very well informed about menu and bar selections, was attentive without being intrusive, and very gracious with my compliments on the food. Why isn’t this place(or one just like it) much closer to the ocean, say, in Thousand Oaks, California(where I’m from)?

I’ll just go ahead and say it, their are only two sliders when ordering that and for the price that just doesn’t cut it. Luckily a friend order it, because if i did i would have felt robbed. This is a small little place with a local feel. I was curious about the DJ they had, because i didn’t see this as the type of place that clears out the dance floor, but he was putting down some good tunes. The staff was fair, nothing special and i did have to ask for more water after several minutes of waiting. Food here was good, but i just couldn’t find anything special about it, nor could anyone else. Overall the experience was just, meh.

The Oysters Rockafeller were both expensive($ 30 a dozen) and not very good. Still functionally raw under a bed of cream and cheese, they really didn’t do oysters justice. My wife, who normally likes oysters, wouldn’t really force back more than two. I, who will eat anything, needed a thick layer of tabasco to eat a few. In addition, the house drinks are quite expensive(7 – 11 bucks each) which is a lot for a hole in wall bar. I don’t really feel I got my value for anything here and will not be coming back.

We walked in shocked that this place is basically a dive bar. It smelled like stale cigarettes and there was a small crowd huddled around the bar. We ended up sitting in a booth, ordering a dozen oysters on the half shell and the crab cakes. Everything was wonderful! The oysters were especially clean – which is hard to find! A little disappointed in the service, but I’d definitely go back for the oysters.

Bloody Mary«Gonzo» is the BEST!!! Sliders are amazing– juicy little mini burgers with the perfect combo of toppings. The homemade salsa is spicy and addicting.

Been twice now. Excellent food and sevice. Asked for extra extra hot wings and that’s what I got. Oysters are clean and tasty. Loved the new lunch menu. My boyfriend got the blackened chicken sandwich and was very happy.

No complaints. We stumbled into this place looking for lunch since the place where we tried first was closed. I don’t like seafood, so I got the sliders, really good. The meatballs were average but the garlic bread was awesome! The chips were good. The salsa was not spicy(good for me; I don’t like spicy), but it was bland. You don’t need it to be spicy to add flavor… The fried Oreos were awesome! My fiancé said«it was like an orgy if flavor… In my mouth» lol I definitely recommend them. So don’t fill up on food. Save room for dessert! Place was cozy, there’s a little outdoor seating. And more room in the back past the bar. Good find!
