A friend and I ordered lunch at 1:05 pm on a weekday for pick up. We arrived to establishment at 1:15 pm and had to wait for our order(a cheeseburger and a quesadilla) over 30 minutes. We told the waitress at the bar that we had to go back to work because our lunch break is only 30 minutes long. She went back to the kitchen and told us it would be right out. We waited another 10 minutes before our food was given to us, needless to say we were late to work with no time to even eat our food. Never ordering lunch pick up here again. No one on staff even apologized or offered something in return for the extreme inconvenience. Bad customer service all around.

I have a complaint! There was so much food on my plate that I couldn’t finish it all and I never leave food on my plate! It was wonderful!

Came here after our 2 previous choices had a 1+ hr wait… 2 orders of fish and chips fried to perfection, Asian salmon cooked to perfection, and a order of carne espirito could have been better cuts of meat but were cooked to order. Drinks were the best we’ve had while. Service was excellent. Whenever a waitress walked by they always asked if there was something we needed or how we were doing. This restaurant my not be the best looking but the food is out of this world. I would definitely recommend Knuckleheads to everyone.

Always stop by here two or three times when in town. Food is very affordable and service is great! Everything I have ever had from here has been good!

Lobster roll was outstanding. Light mayo and no celery as filler. Great beer choices. Honey crusted scrod and scallops was delicious. Seating is tight. Noise level is loud, but food makes this a great choice for dinner.

The serves is great. Prices are even better! In my opinion I think this place serves the best fish and chips in the area!

This place came highly recommended to me by a number of people. They told me to visit on a tuesday for ribs or a friday for fish and chips. So last Friday I headed there with some friends. We made it there around 9 and it was quiet empty. The bar was full. The service was really terrible. First we were ignored then told not to worry and given menus only to wait some more. The prices certainly were reasonable. We shared 2 appetizers and they were below average. poor quality, quantity and cold. 2 of us ordered fish and chips another got a burger. I’ve had much better fish and chips for a similar price at other area restaurants. The person that got the burger said it was a typical«bar burger» but to me it didnt look at all home made, it looked very much to be a plain grilled frozen patty that just lacks anything appealing. I’m not sure if we were here on a bad night and I usually try to go to a place at least 2 or 3 times before reviewing it but I’m not really sure this place is worth the second chance.

I went here based in a recommendation from a friend. It was a little hard to find as i thought it was right off Rt 18 based on the map and I left my GPS at home. For those looking in the future, look for the Dunkin Donuts as it back right up to it. Fancy? Nope. Clean? Appeared to be. Appeared to be a neighborhood type place minus the dirty looks at the newcomers. We got there around 8pm on a Saturday so the seating area was about to be broken down for the musical act later that night. We were seated near the kitchen and bar area but it was fine. They have maybe 10 beers on tap and many, many more in bottles. The menu had a few portugese selections(it is New Bedford after all!) and most of the menu was pretty typical of a run of the mill bar and grill. The prices however were concerning as they were on the low side which made me nervous that the quality would match. My wife had the Prime Rib, my some, an appetizer combo and I had an unusual combo dinner, fried fish and buffalo wings. My wife very much enjoyed her prime rib and my son thought the apps were great. The mozzarella sticks appeared to be frozen but the chicken fingers were freshly breaded tenders. The fries were handcut. The vegetable of the day was butternut squash and it was excellent with some brown sugar mixed in. My fish was NE style(cornmeal breading as opposed to English Style beer batter). I prefer beer batter but it is not common in most plces. Quantity and quality of fish was excellent. The wings were nicely sauced and appeared to have been grilled or broiled after saucing to make the sauce stick. A nice touch. The only downside was the chowder. It was ok but seemed canned, but at $ 1,95 a cup it was fine. Service was efficient and friendly. She made sure that everything was taken care of and got my son the requisite sauces for his apps. Dinner for 3 with 2 beers and 2 sodas around $ 50 with leftovers to go home. Again, not fancy, but want a casual dinner at a non-chain place at a lower cost? This is the place!

My previous review was high, but tonight was just so damn special I have to add to what was said. This time I had the love of my life with me and they truly took care of us with just exceptional food tonight. I had the shrimp and steak dinner, Rebecca had the steak. Both steaks were perfectly cooked and were so tender they were placed in the mouth and just melted away, this was completely unexpected! The shrimp were, as always, just perfect. This place has a real spot to survive here for a long time regardless of the price. Just superb food and marvelous service and atmosphere. I love it here and only wish the owners the very best.

I go the fish and chips based on recommendations from others. This restaurant is right in the middle of the fish houses and it was the freshest that I have ever tasted. Abner got a burger and really enjoyed that. Our son got a steak and he said it was very good. The place is nothing to look at from the outside. You know you are in New Bedford when you go inside too. It looked like they were training new servers on the day we went. We saw a few of the lobster rolls being delivered to other tables and those looked really good. Will go back to try that. It’s nothing fancy here. So, don’t go with expectations that it is. However, the food and drinks were good and reasonably priced.

I really wanted to give Knuckleheads 1 star but I have experienced worse in both service and food, and they seem to have some diner loyalty, so two it is. I went here in a party of three on a Sunday. The place was very busy, and they had a few cheap food deals since Sunday is their Customer Appreciation day. My first complaint was that the menu, at least on Sundays, is quite small. I am a poultry lady and there were very few entrees for me to pick from. We started by ordering an appetizer, wings, which we waited for quite awhile. Our entrees came, and still no appetizer. Unsure what happened but we took them to go at the end — they were dry buffalo wings which isn’t my personal preference. I opted for the Grilled Chicken Salad due to few appealing options and the salad didn’t taste bad, the portion was pretty large. The rest of my party ordered the $ 5 steaks — one liked it, the other said his was«just OK» at best. I ended up becoming extremely ill an hour or two after my Knuckleheads experience, and am normally not one to get a sensitive stomach(to put it VERY lightly!). Since the chicken was well cooked, I wonder of the produce was handled poorly. Either way, I will never go back. Even if the salad did not make me ill for an entire evening, and there is a slight chance it was coincidence, the food is not spectacular(nor is the service or restaurant environment.) Some people like this place because it’s cheap. The low prices don’t redeem it for me. If I want to save money, I’ll cook dinner or grab fast food. It is worth paying an extra $ 2-$ 5 to get a much better, cleaner, entrée someplace better.

The best part of the meal was the drink, the Green Monstah. I had the fish and chips. Now, every place in the area has fish and chips. Finding a good plate of them is hard. Knuckleheads version wasn’t. The fish was cooked well. The chips were soggy and not hot. The cole slaw at KFC is better. My wife had a burger and she thought it was too dry. My son and his girl’s meal didn’t fare too well. Also, I know they start breaking down the dining room for the night’s entertainment and the kitchen closes at 8pm for an hour, but I counted 12 people, 3 different parties, walk into the dining room prior to 7:45 and told that the kitchen was closing. Say goodbye to at least $ 250.00 in revenue that they could have had. If I owned the place, I would have sat each and every one of them. Lastly, our waitress was more interested in getting a bite to eat than paying attention to us. However, you really cannot blame her since the manager or the guy in charge was doing nothing more than sitting at the bar having a soda and watching tv. First time customer. Last time customer.

So my husband and I saw this pub on The Phantom Gourmet. We stopped in on a Tuesday, the restaurant portion was completly empty. The waitress was short with us, and semi-rude! She told us «no bifana, no cacoila» but didn’t bother to look at us as she said this… She was acting like she was in a rush when she had no customers to wait on… Hubby an I ordered the all you can eat ribs. Hubby’s first half rack was great! I ended up with the side of the rack with all of the fat! We ordered another and the same thing. Coleslaw was HORRIBLE and the fried were cold!!! Knuckleheads needs to clean their ribs before cooking and serving!!! This was not good, and I LOVE ribs!!! So my hubby and I ended up having two completly different expierences with the food… Towards the end the waitress somewhat became nice, but we did not tip nearly as well as we normally do… Bad waitress ok food…

Was looking for a new place to try out and this came up. It is half bar/half tables for the restaurant area. We got there around 7:30 on a Friday. There wasn’t a real wow factor. The chowder was decent. My fish and chips was pretty good until the last bite I got a bone. I’ve never gotten a bone in fish and chips. My wife got the bifana plate(pork), there was alot of fat on it. So not sure what type of Portuguese person they got cooking there. Rice was overcooked as well. The drinks were reasonably priced as was most of the food. But I guess this was just one of those places we had to try, but there wasn’t anything that really stood out. Also they have live music and it seemed once other tables were done eating, they started consolidating them into one area to make way for the band. So we felt rather rushed. At one point we had 2 guys standing in the empty area behind us that was already cleared. Had to wonder if they were talking about how to set up. Shouldn’t make people feel rushed and we didn’t rush at all. If I feel rushed, I’m not going to do so. I’ll take my time.

Must agree with Jeff G, a decent spot for a pub lunch and a beer. I had the fish and chips and it was very good. Day boat cod, super fresh and well battered and fried in a light coating. The barkeep was a trash princess, nice rack for an aging 30 something and she thought she was the bees knees and provided basic, effiicient service but was as friendly as an RMV clerk. She may impress the 50ish something fishermen that come in but sadly her time is marked. Bonus is cheap drinks, domestic beers are $ 2.50 and imports/microbrews around $ 3.25…a definite steal. Addes bonus this is next door to the fishing fleet so fresh seafood markets abound.

While this is not a place thats oozing class and atmosphere it is a delicious, reasonably priced, local gem. Theres 2 sides to knuckleheads; walk in to the right and get seated for dinner. THe food here is incredible and so cheap! Steak and Lobster Sauté from the specials list is $ 14. The steak was perfectly cooked to my specifications, and the lobster tail was large and seasoned beautifully. Everything is oversized and great. Walk to the left upon entering and you get to the bar. The bar is divey and that how I like em! Cheap beers, reasonable selection and a jukebox. Keno also for those who love to gamble. This spot is a little out of the way for a typical NB destination but fantastic, and somewhere I will return again and again.
