Curated. Lovely. Unpretentious. For Veda is all of these things, which makes it a welcome part of the downtown New Bedford shopping scene. You can definitely notice the transformation that is happening on this stretch of Purchase Street in the heart of the historic part of the city, which features a handful of cool shops and eateries. Among them, For Veda is a standout. This manageable space(a single room, with one dressing room) is filled with lovely and unique clothing and accessories. You won’t be overwhelmed by volume upon entry; rather, you are able to dive deeply into the many special pieces that are there. The owner, Tessa, is sweet and welcoming. She used to work at a couple of restaurants in the neighborhood, and still shows her former employers her support. If you bring a receipt from Cork or Rose Alley Ale House, you get a 5% discount off your purchase. On my last visit, I got a very cute red, white and blue striped maxi skirt at an end-of-season discount. While the store offers a sale rack, full price items are also quite reasonably priced. Yet another reason to head to New Bedford for a day of shopping: shop owners really do have regular, working folks in mind — and the prices of some fabulous pieces truly reflect that. If you’re exploring the Whaling City for the day, or en route to Cape Cod, and you’re the type that gets inspired by beautiful and on-trend clothing, you should spend some time in this pretty, stylish shop.

This adorable boutique should be renamed ‘For Hilary,’ because if I had my druthers, everything in this shop would be in my closet… Well, not the sales girl, but she was pretty sweet. As I was perusing downtown New Bedford, the window displays of For Veda caught my eye and I had to go in. I’m so glad I did! Cute dresses, tops, skirts and pants are neatly displayed in tasteful racks in a gorgeous, boudoir-ish space with deep blue walls and frilly details. I was lucky enough to snag an adorable mint green polka dot sundress before it flew out of the store — it was the last one left. The sales girl was friendly, helpful and fun to be with — she was totally encourages trying stuff on, having a ball and signing up for their loyalty-rewards program(for every $ 20 spent, you get a stamp, and for twenty stamps, you get a discount). So, if your in downtown NB, looking for some fun, girly items and up for a good time, hit up For Veda, for sho’.
