Darby is an unbelievable massage therapist who combines relaxation with deep tissue work. She knows the body so well and finds every kink that needs attention. She is detailed, kind, skilled, and a pleasure to be around. We drive up from the Bay Area to enjoy her expertise. Darby is a true gem.

I rarely feel that I can be at ease when I go to have a massage in the past but now that I’ve been welcomed into Darby’s healing sanctuary, I feel at total heart and auric peace. I have only been with 3 other therapists who I trusted to work on me, and Darby is in that 3. The space is very clean, energy is clear, and the room where she treats you is very comforting. She uses heated blankets and sheets, and stones and oils that will melt your body back into where you need to be to remove the stress of the world. I told Darby when she works, I literally feel soothed by magical realms. She reminds me of the women of the Red Tent, first foremothers and healers. Namaste SatNam and Praise JAH for her Gift.

My boyfriend and I decided to escape up to Nevada City for a few nights and we were so happy we decided to go! What a cute little place. We stumbled on Body Essence and we got the best massages. We each did a 1 hour and it was awesome. We will absolutely be back! Thank you Darby, we feel so good!

Darby’s apple cider vinegar mask is the best face mask in the world. Her massages are top notch, and you wont find a sweeter, more loving soul. I LOVE the feathers she puts in my hair and the spring she puts in my step. Treat yourself to a truly unique, personalized pampering session.

I’ve been getting massaged by Darby for years. I used to visit her in Oakland and now find any reason I can to detour to Nevada City to get a deep tissue massage from her. And I mean deep! She’s one of the few who can work on me as deep as I need. In come the hot packs, and out goes the tension. Be careful! She will ruin any other massage therapists for you.

Darby has been doing my hair, waxing, and massages for 15 years. When I left Jackson Hole, WY I knew I would never find anyone like her! I was so happy when she moved to California! I drive HOURS because her services are worth it. Darby is exceptionally knowledgable in numerous modalities and can accommodate your personal massage preference. She’s also skilled in Aveda treatments so you can expect that type of customer service (tea, head/​shoulder/​scalp massage, etc.). One time I made the mistake of going somewhere else. I walked into Darby’s salon so she could help me fix my hair. Even though I was a walk in, she made time to fix my hair which took hours. When I left, my friends were shocked at how healthy my hair looked. I can’t say enough positive things about Body Essence!

So happy that Darby has found herself a new location in Nevada City, but so bummed that I don’t get to receive her amazing bodywork anymore! Her years of experience and raining have been such a gift to me. Being a massage therapist myself, I am super picky about who I let work on me. Darby was always my first choice whether I was dealing with a physical pain or a more deeply rooted emotional stressor that was stuck in my body. Despite the fact that I haven’t lived near her shop for many years now, she is still my all time favorite hairdresser, esthetician AND body worker! Body Essence owner, Darby, is the best Esthetician that I have had services from! I have visit many spas in large cities, and have never found someone who could compare to Darby. I call her my face angel! She has performed many services, such as hydrating facials and facials that I simply needed to help me de-​stress.
Her product knowledge and how she watches your skin respond during the facial is over and above what other estheticians that I have gone to were able to do. If you want the best; if you want your skin to improve; if you are tired of going to estheticians who do not make a difference, you need to call Body Essence and schedule a procedure with Darby!
