I love tacos. Heck, I love tacos and burritos. When a taco is good, I will give it five stars. Wait, let me rephrase that. When a taco is life changing, I will give it five stars. This is my opinion and I’ve always loved the adobada tacos at Tacos El Gordo aka Tacos El G. I think I’ve been to several of their locations around town and they are pretty consistent in flavor. Btw, I also love the tacos at other places and I would give them a five as well(some not all). But this review is for TeG(I’m too lazy to type it out) and I give them a five. I go to this particular location because the lines aren’t crazy. All their tacos are awesome and If I did live closer to them, I would be even rounder. Anyhow, they’re fast, nice and efficient. There’s no small talk here. Just ask for the 75 tacos that you want to eat and call it a day. Remember, there are several lines and each line specializes in a certain item/meat. You can also ask for grilled green onions and jalapeño. They have endless amounts of radishes and limes. Each taco is $ 2 and there are other limited items on the menu at different prices. As for the tacos, they are street tacos. They are small in size but they pack a flavor punch. You can ask them with everything or without onions or with onions or without guacamole or with — the possibilities are endless. Again, I always order the adobada taco(spicy pork). Parking is crazy because they have a small lot. Bathrooms are outside. Tables are clean. It’s really a no nonsense kinda place. Just stand in line and order your delicious tacos.

Driving back from tecate I searched up «tacos el gordo» and apparently this one was the closest one — upon arrival I realized it wasn’t the original one. I decided to give it a try and the tacos weren’t what I expected at all seeing that it had great reviews + the wait is terrible because they all so do drive thru. There was a woman insisting to go pay & I kept telling her yessss but can’t you see I can’t carry my tray because I have a broken arm? Stick to tacos el gordo!

This place is authentic and fresh, there’s always a long line around lunch, so either go before or after if you can. The prices are very reasonable also! $ 2 each taco.

It’s the second time I have come through drive-thru and part of my order is messed up… AGAIN! I order one type of meat and get something else, and it’s definitely not worth it driving back to correct the order. Cashiers need to verify the order before it’s paid and afterward too. The order was clear on the bag, I don’t understand how they couldn’t read it. And my tacos had something dry in them that was like dry grass. Disgusting! Not coming here again! No vuelvo a venir!

Tacos El G isn’t exactly the same as Tacos El Gordo anymore, but it’s just as good. It was my first time going to a place where I had to walk up to a sign of the type of meat that I want and ask for an order. There are three lines and then afterwards you go to the register to pay. It’s also really interesting how they scrape off the meat and drench the tortilla with oil. My friend highly recommended the adobada(spicy pork) and omg it’s like the best thing here. I also ordered the carne asada, lengua(beef tongue), and cabeza(head). The tacos all tasted amazing. My favorite would be the adobada and my least favorite would be the carne asada because of how dry it tasted. I’m not a huge fan of spicy foods, but the adobada wasn’t spicy to me at all even though it’s spicy pork. I got four tacos and my total turned out to be $ 9, which isn’t bad. One taco is like $ 2. I like how spacious it is inside and outside. There’s a good amount of tables so there will be enough seats if you want to dine in. There is also parking outside and a convenient drive thru! If you’re in the area, come try some of the best tacos in San Diego!

We ordered from the drive thru window. It took them a while to take our order and when we began to eat our food we noticed the avocado was spoiled. And the Adobada was disgusting tasted sweet for some weird reason. We are Mexican and I don’t think tacos are supposed to be sweet. We come to this place a lot but I would not recommend going to the national city location.

The taco shops(Lolitas, Robertos, albertos, hilbertos — all the bertos) make better tacos/tortas than this place. it was ok… i expected better since its coming from the OG hood! Save yourself time and just go to your nearest taco shop in national city.

Ever since the last time I was here, I’ve been dreaming about these tacos because nowhere in San Jose do we have anything like these. All of their tacos are $ 2 each and they are so worth it. The second time I visited, I ordered 4 tacos for myself cause I knew that I won’t be coming back anytime soon. I ordered two of the marinated pork tacos, 1 carne asada, and 1 pollo. My favorite has to be the marinated pork. It’s delicious, moist, and the green sauce on top is the most amazing thing paired with it. Yum! A must eat when your in the City of San Diego.

Who the heck listed this place as closed? No, this place is still open and was popping on a Saturday night at 10pm. Adobada was twirling on the spit in all it’s almighty glory. Just a note, tacos might be on the greasier side for some since they drench their tacos in oils before filling them up with the meat and sides. Also, might be too much onion for some and you’ll be burping some major funk afterward, but that’s why it’s so awesome. This place was formerly ‘Tacos El Gordo 3′, but they have since broken away from the main chain and have rebranded as ‘Tacos El G’. Adobada is still on point.

I made a point to ~finally~ stop here and see what all the fuss was. So being that it’s rare I am in this area, I stopped to get cash and made my way to Tacos el G. BTW: They do take cards for pmt I discovered, contrary to what I had read from some Unilocalers. Two adobada tacos with everything on them later… well, I was totally. confused. Now I realize that I probably looked like that stressed traveler wandering the airport looking up for any indication of where my gate was… where do I order? then where do I pay?- I see no salsa bar. I am lost and going to miss my flight now. No– it was the odd reddish ’ corned beef looking ’ meat in my tacos. What the ? Having ordered everything on them and upon a few daring bites I did enjoy the greasy, hot contents mixed with the fusion of onions, cilantro… etc. but I think the white sweet sauce threw me. So, I am rating still a 3.5 because the flavor fusion is just not what I was expecting. I am totally into the hot, bring it on heat of a verde /serrano sauce. but this sauce did too much of a masking of the meat itself. I expected a fresh crunch from onion and the grassy cilantro– instead the sauce took over. They serve their tacos on tiny 5″ plates. That’s ok– just have to fight to keep it neat or inhale the food quickly. It is a fairly clean joint. Next time I’ll order three diverse items so I can understand what type of ‘street tacos’ I am dealing with, or what part of Mexico the recipes are derived from. All in all, decent so 3.5

I was introduced to Tacos el Gordo about 2 years ago by a friend and I am truly happy(my stomach also thanks her) for suggesting this restaurant. I could easily say that this restaurant has become a favorite of mine for some fantastic tacos. The staff here are always in beast mode. I am mesmerized by the way they sizzle, cut, cook and serve the food. They are always on going to make sure we get our food fresh and they do it as fast as their equipment allows them to. Hats of to them because these guys are such hard workers. Food is absolutely scrumptious. Taco ingredients consist of fresh vegetables and perfectly seasoned meat. I also love their quesadilla as they make their own tortillas and i am so happy that they use fresh queso! Also ask for their grilled green onions and add to your food. It takes it to another level! Food seems simple but i highly suggest this place and if you do visit then you will understand how i feel and that i was not just talking some crazy talk lol Parking can be difficult when everyone decides to eat here and expect lines but it is worth the wait.

I was expecting the same standards as their other main location on H street but nope! It was much slower to get our food. The line wasn’t even that long but for some odd reason it took very long for them to serve the food to each person. When I got the Lengua taco, it was stuffed with overload of cilantro and onions and not enough sauce leaving my taco pretty dry and not much flavor. Also got the carne asada taco which had very little guacamole in it and was kind of on the salty side. Maybe it was just an isolated incident but I have never been disappointed at the other location. The only great thing about this place is that there’s more parking spots available but that alone won’t make me want to come here even though it’s closer than the other location. Also although it happens at the other location occasionally but usually it gets called out, some regulars are cheating the system here by asking for other items in a different queue so they don’t have to wait in line again for a different taco. Not cool…

I don’t think you can be in San Diego and have no heard of Tacos El Gordo. While there many Mexican places around San Diego that are delicious in their own right, if you want tacos, this is the place to go. For me it is a ridiculously long drive that is worth it. You’ll know when you get there. You can see everything cooking, grilling and sizzling and it will taste as good as you think it will. Squeeze a bit of lime on each taco and enjoy! Adobada Pork(Spicy Pork) — their signature taco and a MUSTGET. If there’s anything that looks amazing here, it is the rotating adobada that is continuously slow cooked like the Greek gyro. If you come up close enough, you can see that every piece on the edge is sizzling deliciousness. It is also the only taco with a special creamy sauce that works really well with the spices in the pork. ORDERMANY. There are other places in San Diego that sell adobada pork but I haven’t seen any place do it as well as Tacos El Gordo. Lengua(Beef Tongue) — one of the best around. They seem to stew this throughout the day so it is guaranteed to be tender, fresh and flavorful. It is my second favorite taco here. There are other places around San Diego who can do lengua just as well so I wouldn’t recommend going to Tacos El Gordo just for this kind of taco. Suadero(Beef Shoulder) — I like ordering one of these tacos because while it is very well marinated but can be a bit salty. I like it as a contrast to the light tasting lengua. The beef shoulder is very tender and unique to Tacos El Gordo. I haven’t seen any other place sell suadero tacos so definitely order it! Best part about this place is that each taco is hovering around $ 3 so it doesn’t cost all that much to have one of the best tacos in San Diego. I just wish they opened a place farther up north because all of their locations are so far down south! If you are down here though, I highly recommend you stop by. You won’t regret it!

We came here for some tacos. Luckily, the lines weren’t long and we just beat the lunch rush. I had been to Tacos El Gordo off H Street a few years back and haven’t been back since given my remembrance of salty tacos. This time I wanted to see if the taco had redeemed themselves. They have their own parking lot — SCORE! No need to fight for parking(well unless it’s packed). They have a drive thru, but be cognizant of how long it takes to get your tacos and if you have a big order. You may be waiting for a long time. There are 3 separate lines to choose from and if you want tacos from each one of the lines, good luck to you! The service is a bit slow, but there is a disclaimer on the wall indicating that they’re making your fresh tacos on the spot, so expect a wait. I ordered 3 tacos and luckily I was in the right line. I ordered the cow’s head, lengua and the beef shoulder. The cow’s head and beef shoulder were still a bit salty for my taste. The tongue is definitely the way to go. Everyone likes the abodaba, but i don’t really care for the taste. Next time I will definitely just order all tongue. Seems as though they raised their prices since the last time I came. Now the tacos are about $ 2.30 each, where some places are still about $ 1 – 1.50 up in North County SD.

Yes! This is my fiancé’s favorite taco place in San Diego and he decided to bring me here. I was very impressed with the flavors of the meat. I can see why people like this place! I hear that the line gets pretty long so be prepared for that! They make everything fresh so be patient! I really enjoyed my tongue, trip, and shoulder. He likes the adobada. I highly recommend you try all! All tacos are between $ 2 – 3 each.

I’ve been here once with a friend, but I had no idea what I was doing and I was only stringing along not knowing much. I tried the carne asada, and it was good. Since then I have not had other tacos that tasted just as good. Today I went here again and decided to try other things. I got the adobada and the lenguan. The adobada was good, but my favorite was the lenguan. Tender and had good flavor. The prices weren’t bad either. In total it was 7 tacos that came up to $ 16. I can only eat 3 before I get full. It’s about $ 2 for tacos and it’s a good price for how much meat they pack on there. I still think these are the best tacos and I haven’t found anywhere else that has great tacos with such a good price. The only issue I have with this place is that the cashier could use a smile and the flies that go around disturbing you while you eat. I can’t remember if they kept the door open the last time, but today it was and it was bothersome to have to repeatedly swat away flies from my plate.

Aww disappointed in this place compared to the location in Las Vegas. Everything was dry and salty here. REMEMBER, THERES3DIFFERENTLINESFORTHEDIFFERENTTYPESOFMEAT! Service: Very good, not as efficient and fast as the other location. Food: — Tacos are $ 2(no taco Tuesday deals) — Adobada Spicy Pork taco– was on the drier side, but it still had the delicious creamy sauce on it. I had the ones at Las Vegas, but these were far in comparison. Wait wasn’t this supposed to be spicy??? — Carne Asada taco– careful, salty! Glad it came with guacamole though. — Chorizo taco– oh yeah definitely salty. I had to take some of the meat out before I can finish the taco — Lengua taco(cow tongue)– my favorite! Meat was tender and the saltiness was just right. — free pepper and onions, just ask for them when you order the tacos

It’s nice that they have another location that is slightly closer to me than the Chula Vista location. The have tons of parking spaces on both sides of the restaurant as well. Inside is a lot smaller than the other location, but the outdoor seating area is bigger. I didn’t like how close the tables were to the counter where you order food, because can you imagine how tight it would be if it was actually really busy? We came here around 8:30pm and there was a lot of people there but not too crowded. So basically, there are three different taco stations which serve different types of meat. You line up behind the one that you want to order tacos from, then move on to the next. Most of their tacos here are $ 2.00 each. Quesadillas are $ 3.75. Toastadas are $ 3.75. Personally, I think that is an amazing price for the quality! Everything under $ 4, what could get better than that? I ALWAYS get the spicy pork taco because its the best one. I love that Tacos El Gordo is one of the rare mexican shops that serve their meat off of a rotisserie pole, with meats piled high, they personally slice each portion off for each taco. And I always get the carne asada too, but something was a little bit off about the carne asada here. They gave a generous portion of meat, but it just didn’t taste as great. Plus, I noticed that my carne asada tacos only had one tortilla for each taco instead of the usual two tortillas which didn’t work out well because the one tortilla got soggy and was hard to keep together. What I do like about this location compared to the Chula Vista location, is their menu presentation. Their menu here actually has pictures!!! AND they also have English captions that tell you what each taco is. For example, cabeza taco is cow head taco. That sort of stuff that people aren’t used to eating so they don’t know what it is. I was quite surprised by the amount of people they had working here. All the men cooking in the back. One older lady handling the tortillas and onions like usual. But there was a few younger ladies who kept walking around and talking to each other or just waiting behind the register who seem to be hardly working. But overall, its still goood here. And still authentic tacos.
