2.5 Let’s start with the obvious: there are some concessions you have to make once you commit to buying sushi from a New England-styled fried fish restaurant. Let it be noted that a sushi-specific restaurant in Edgefield/East End would go over very well. In fact, I can think of more than a couple of potential locations for such. I’m not sayin’; I’m just sayin’. So, it came to pass that I didn’t want to drive Downtown or to West End for sushi. So, I looked over the menu, called and made the short walk over to Wave. I was pleased to note the sushi bar I never noticed on previous trips to B&F but I couldn’t really get the reality of the situation out of my head. I know strangers things happen in the world of current food. I know, in some cities, gas station sushi is de rigueur. I don’t know that Nashville is there yet. Of my two rolls, I wasn’t that happy with either. They were edible and I didn’t get ill but I had higher expectations in my head.* My dragon roll was a bit tough/chewy and my scallop roll was fishy. Before I opened the container, I could smell it. Not my finest moment in deciding to eat it but I was coming off a particularly busy week(Friday night) and I was ravenously hungry. Know that you have better options, Nashville. Let people do what they do best and keep it moving. When you’re heading to 10th& Woodland with the need for fish in your head/belly, keep it fried or grilled. You’ll have a much better experience. *Probably my bad.

Being new to Nashville we weren’t sure where to go get our Sushi fix. With the name on the outside of this restaurant being«Batter’d & Fried» we were definitely reluctant. We looked at their sushi menu and there was a good selection and We also peeped out what was on peoples plates; everybody looked like they were enjoying their food so we gave it a shot. We ordered swordfish tacos: the fish was cooked really well in these and the cucumber sauce was a nice touch. These were light yet filling. For our sushi options we ordered a tuna roll(came with 6 pieces for about $ 7) and the salmon roll(came with 6 pieces for about $ 7), and the sunflower roll(came with 6 pieces for about $ 10). Everything tasted fresh, including the ginger and wasabi. The sunflower rolls were stuffed with things including a kiwi which added a nice sweet flavor combined with everything else. I also ordered a cocktail which looked better then it tasted. The atmosphere was low key, not pretentious at all all which I’m finding some of the East Nashville places can be. We’re going to explore other sushi joints to find our perfect one but this one was a good start.

Very good sushi and will be back again soon. The menu has a good variety — basic rolls, combinations, tempura ingredients and some even fried up entirely. Plus you have access to all the beers and food of «Battered & Fried». Two restaurants in one? Genius Note: In comparison to places on the east/west coast, it’s a star lower(based on opinions of others from those areas and my own) However for Nashville it’s 5 stars.

I am a sushi novice, but from what little that I have had, I like Wave the best. The rolls are not oversized, they are fairly priced and I think they are as fresh as any rolls in Nashville. I have not had any of the Nigiri.

The Wave Sushi Bar is part of Battr’d and Fried in 5 Points. It provides an excellent contrast to the heavier options of B & F’s menu. Their sushi menu offers a unique selection including a pad thai roll. Most of the rolls are in the $ 6-$ 8 dollar range and it takes two to get full so it’s not the cheapest sushi in town. It’s a great place to go if you’re craving sushi but with someone who isn’t a fan because they can order from Battr’d and Fried’s New England style seafood menu.
