Most people think I am Chinese. Many Chinese think I’m Chinese. I’m of Filipino descent, but most Filipinos think I’m Chinese. I don’t mind too much when I’m asked; it’s natural curiosity. However, I do draw the line when immigrants tell me that my English is very good. After 4 decades of speaking it natively and never being taught my parents’ language, I certainly hope it is. The attendant didn’t catch my body language that I was getting irritated that her line of questioning continued far longer than necessary. I just wanted to get my lottery tickets and go. This station is conveniently in front of my main bus stop. It is maddening that I have to be extra cautious just trying to walk by this station to and from home. I am terrified that at this tight location, I may one day get hit by the cars that forget that we pedestrians do exist in this city. But when I do come in, it’s usually a fast transaction. Unless it’s by a clerk who wants to compliment you on your English.

Reviewing a gas station seems a bit unexciting but hey, why not? I always seem to fill up here because my gas tank gets mighty thirsty in between Hillsboro Village and the Mall of Green Hills… the staff is always super friendly but it can be treacherous to attempt to drive into or leave the parking lot and gas station pumps here because the lot is so small. As you all know, this isn’t helped by the usually clogged up traffic on 21st Avenue either. Once you get past dodging cars and get ponied up to a pump, you’ll be greeted by nearly $ 4 a gallon in gas prices… ah.
