I give them major props for having something like this, but much like during the Tomato Arts Festival, I am pretty disappointed by the lack of variety in the wares that are being hocked here. I’m a crafter and thus love all things crafty. I try to buy local handmade stuff as much as I can afford and am a big proponent of supporting local vendors which is why I still love this event. Craft is located in the parking lot behind Lipstick Lounge, which is just a few blocks down the road(easily within walking distance) from 5 points in East Nasty. You’ll find a lot of cool handmade stuff here, anywhere from knitted items to soaps. A large percentage of the items fall in the jewelry category. I don’t know why it seems like a lot of people here are selling the same items. Maybe its the trends in crafty-ness, maybe being such a tight nit community creates a lack of perspective. To be fair, it has been a little while since I’ve been able to make it over to Craft so things could be different.

I love this little local craft fair and it happens monthly at 14th and Woodland on the first Sunday. Being that you are a mere block from 5 points get a beer or a dog and walk over for a gander. My review is more of an FYI that this happens over here because it’s worth the 15 — 20 minutes it would take to peruse it if you live over here or are in the area. The other thing I will comment on is that my art budget is LOW. So, I find that I can’t spend $ 50 for a hand painted plate which is about what you find at the bigger craft fairs at Centennial. However, they offer hand made one of a kind stuff but the price points are more in my budget. My third point of review is that East Nashville is a very social friendly neighborhood so if you are thinking about moving over here and want to experience a little bit of local flavor, this is definitely the right place to do it.

The East Nashville Craft Fairs are a bit difficult to define as far as Unilocal’s business categories go. The Craft Fairs take place the first Sunday of every month behind The Lipstick Lounge on 14th and Woodland, and they’re completely awesome. Now, fellas; I know what you’re thinking… Craft Fairs? Isn’t that chick stuff? Initially I thought so myself, but I’ve checked them out a time or two with lady friends, and they’re actually extremely cool. In addition to having merchants who sell girl stuff(purses, earrings, picture frames, et cetera), there are also people who sell belt buckles, t-shirts and some really great art. Plus, if you’re looking for a gift for your special lady, this is the perfect spot to look. The Craft folks hold their fairs almost year round(they skip the really brutal winter months), and it’s always exciting to see the vendors at their stands and dozens of locals buzzing around. These fairs are one of the things that make East Nashville so unique. And the best part: nobody’s going to rip you off! These are just folks who want to share their respective arts with the community, and you can always find a bargain here. Be it a Nintendo controller belt buckle or a screen print t-shirt with an antelope on it, I’ll bet you you’re going to find something you like.
