Thanks to a last minute cancellation, we were able to get a Queen room at this beautiful B&B, which was recommended to us as the«best B&B in Narragansett.» The house is beautiful, the room we had was clean, comfortable and perfect for a B&B, but the breakfast was fabulous. The first day, we had fresh muffins, pancakes, sausage, a large and wonderful breakfast. The second day, fresh corn bread and an egg fritatta. Both days, fresh fruit was also served. The Richards are very friendly, have great recommendations for sightseeing and dining, and are cordial hosts. We had a great experience here, and the original recommendation seemed accurate to us.

We enjoyed a lovely weekend at The Richards. Beautiful, gracious historic building, lovingly decorated, with all rooms large and welcoming. The owners are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful about the area. And, even more important to a breakfast lover like me, they provide a wonderful start to the day at that meal with homemade muffins, fresh fruit, pancakes, frittatas and more. Just delicious! It’s a little old school, with no television and no credit cards. But in this lovely home, with beautifully maintained gardens, it all feels just right. You will enjoy your stay at The Richards!

I was seriously turned off by the somber, unwelcoming atmosphere. Frankly, I felt I was staying in a funeral home. The furniture was uncomfortable; the décor sparse. I felt like tiptoeing around the place, because it was so quiet and foreboding. The owners were pleasant but not incredibly friendly. It was pretty apparent that the Richards have a B&B because they«have to,» not because they want to.

We recently stayed at The Richards the later part of August 2011. I have to say my review my be skewed by our«over the top» experience at a B&B in Baltimore(Blue Door) which — as far as I’m concerned — sets the bar pretty high. Over all our experience was positive. The house is an amazing old home made out of solid granite(which was reassuring since we were there during hurricane Irene). The inside is decorated tastefully and comfortably in a colonial style. One con, rooms do not have locks. I would feel more assured knowing my valuables were secured behind a lock door while I am out(which was generally all day every day). The room was very large and quiet. We often didn’t know other guests were there until seeing them at breakfast. The bedding was comfortable. The bath was huge with a soaking tub and separate shower. Another possible con: it would have been nice to have had a TV with cable, at least in the common area, since we were there during a hurricane so we could keep track of the latest news. Though Nancy Richards did put out an effort to keep us informed and let us know which restaurants were operating off a generator when the power went out. The breakfasts were great and fun socializing with the other guests. Con: my husband and I were offended by some rude comments by Steven Richards about the South as he knew we were from Texas. Yet over and over he would tell us how stupid Southerns were(including specific references to business dealings in Texas). In fact, he went so far as to say he would be happy if «everything below the Mason Dixon Line were Nuked». WOW! We did notice the days following that remark he stopped with the«trash talking the South» and was more pleasant. My husband suspects Nancy had a talk with him.
