Ask for The hippie syrah! It’s a relaxed environment. Expect great conversation and zero pretension. The company is fantastic and If you love to support great winemakers who’ve been in the valley for years then make this a stop on your wine tour for sure.

Other reviewers have nailed it. Bill and Tulocay are awesome. This is our kind of tasting: sitting with the winemaker/owner and just b/s-ing about wine, business, life, etc. If you want marble bars, waterfalls, harp being played, logo-ed bobblehead dolls, partying with bachelorette parties, this is NOT the place. The wines were the best, most consistent we had on our trip. Pinot Noir was, at first taste, the best. Not even close. I’m always skeptical when people comment like I’m doing about wines at tastings, but I’m comfortable writing this for Tulocay. Only place that we visited that we joined his«club,» as loose of a term as it gets. Visit him or the web-site and you’ll appreciate that a bit more. Thumbs up, Bill. See you again soon and looking forward to our fist shipment! Don’t change.

My family came over thanksgiving weekend to this charming winery. The winemaker gave us a rich history of himself and of the napa valley wine industry, which complemented his wine perfectly. Highly recommend to anyone who wants an intimate and enriching wine tasting experience.

Great reds. Syrah and cab both really sound and cheaper than many of the more famous Napa /Sonoma brands. Definitely one of the best wineries in the area to visit. Sit out front with Bill, drink some wine, enjoy the beautiful scenery and weather. This is not a big-box tour… they do not that I am aware of offer«tours» per se, but program here has its own charm. Call ahead. Plan to spend some time chilling out, drinking and talking about wine, and stocking up on their delicious and reasonably priced products(which I have only very infrequently found on wine lists… they’re a small house). Totally solid.

Absolutely loved this place! We went to 10 different wineries on this trip and this was our favorite. dj Like the other reviewers have stated it just a guy and his house. Bill was such a sweetheart. We called ahead like his website asked and he actually told us it wasn’t a good day to come(his property had a fire the day before). When he found out we were from Las Vegas he told us to come by and we’re glad we did! We sat around his table for an hour and a half enjoying 3 different types of wines, all of which we loved. The only we left was because we had a massage scheduled, otherwise we probably would have stayed for hours. It was a charming environment and Bill made us feel right at home. We definitely plan on ordering more wine from him and will visit again on our next trip!

Tulocay was one of the«new» wineries to start up in the early 1970’s, and the owner, Bill Cadman, is still at it and still making great Napa wines, in the traditional style. This means that his wines are not like some of the high-alcohol, overoaked fruit bombs that many wineries have come to produce. These wines are very well-balanced and play well with food — they don’t dominate, they enhance and compliment, good meals. They also age very well, unlike some of the newer-style wines. Another plus is that the Tulocay wines are generally very well-priced compared with your average Napa wine — many if not most of his wines are in the 20 to 30 dollar range and some of his library wines are below this. Finally, if any of this sounds like your style and you are planning a trip to Napa, I encourage you to call him and arrange a visit — you will be greeted by a super-nice, gregarious man who very likely will pull corks and pour his wine for you, and tell you stories, right at his kitchen table. Pretty soon, you’ll feel like an old friend !

My boyfriend and I spent a wonderful afternoon at Tulocay with proprietor Bill Cadman, his lovely girlfriend, Lucky the cat, Buddy the dog, about a dozen goldfinches, two horses, and oh yeah — many bottles of wine. Tulocay is not your typical fancy Napa winery or tasting room. It’s not good for bachelorette parties. But if you like wine and good conversation with someone who has been in the business for over thirty years, Tulocay Winery is your kind of place. Tulocay Winery is essentially Bill’s house and yard. He buys his grapes elsewhere, but ferments, presses, blends, and bottles on-site. He does his tasting on the concrete patio in his front yard, under a tree filled with goldfinches and often with the dog and cat nearby(the horses are the neighbor’s). He was generous with his time, knowledge, and his wine — often urging us to try something we liked again or going back into the house to get another bottle. If you’re interested in going off the beaten path a little while in Napa, or you’re just tired of the same old stuffy tasting rooms, give Bill a call. His wines are fantastic!

I went here with my roommate to get wine for their wedding. To be fair, the disclaimer is that he was once roommates with the winemaker’s daughter. BUT, since I don’t know her all that well, I think it’s fair enough to prevent any bias. Very chill wine tasting: you sit on the porch with his cat and dog and taste some wines he’s made(grapes grown elsewhere). The Chardonnay was amazing, and I’m not really a white wine fan. But man, it was hot that day(maybe this past April or May?) and the chardonnay was so bright, it reminded me of a sauvignon blanc(which I prefer). Unoaked. Oak-less? oak-free? Steeled? The reds were great too. The first one didn’t do it for me, but the next 3 cabs were delicious. My memory is fuzzy for details on which one we chose for their wedding, but everyone was happy and the caterer said she never saw so much wine drunk at a wedding before. I heard there was like one or two bottles left. Of course, both sides of the families are nearly if not full blown alcoholics. But still. Oh, and everyone was complementing the wines, not just those two sheets to the wind. So there.

This is my favorite kind of wine tasting. The beau, myself and the winemaker, hanging out on his porch with his cat, just taking in the view… It’s one of the least pretentious«wineries» ever(I use«winery» loosely because it’s just this guy’s house!). If you like reds, this is the place to go. I highly recommended for a relaxed trip to Napa; it’s not really a place to go if you’re on a party bus. Don’t get me wrong, you’ll drink plenty, but it’s just not that kind of enviroment!
