Not surprised this place is closed, albeit temporarily. My meal was lacking in luster recently before the closure, although I did have a few fabulous desserts there about 2 years ago.

Came here during happy hour. Got the pilsner, big glass for the price. I had the pork sliders and they were great! Three sliders are a great price and fill you up. Came with warm crispy fries. Sliders had crispy buns, fresh coleslaw and a slice of apple, with pulled pork that has a little smoky, spicy note. The reason for taking off a star was The fish and chips(for $ 14) plate needed another fish stick(only two small sticks) to be satisfying and happy hour could be a bit cheaper. Good service, waitress checked on us many times. Candle lite, low lighting, very great atmosphere. Nice bar, plenty of outdoor seating, or a few indoor seating options.

My family had Sunday brunch here and we were all disappointed with the food. The service was excellent, so it was too bad that our entrees did not satisfy. My partner and I had the the Salad Nicoise which I have had many place before including where it originated in Nice, France. For $ 18 the salads were very small. The tuna was way over cooked. My dad ordered the Fish n’ Chips. He thought the Cod was too«fishy.» The fries were were limp with too much oil and probably were not drained well. My mom ordered a pulled pork sandwich and she said there was way too much sauce for the amount of meat. The one part of the meal everyone loved was the fresh warm rolls and salted butter. The décor here is well done and again I have to rave about the service. It was first class and much better than we are used to in San Francisco. Maybe the chef was on vacation, but at $ 90 for brunch for four without any appetizers and one glass of wine and three iced teas, we will probably not take our chances again.

If you’re walking around downtown Napa looking for a nice lunch or dinner, don’t come here. I came here with my girlfriends on a Saturday night and we were not impressed. From the very start our waiter made us feel unwelcome. It wasn’t so much his actions as it was his attitude. The restaurant wasn’t very full and it was acting like we were the most demanding customers he’s ever had. The food portions are SO small. I can handle small portions if the prices matched the amount of food I’m getting, but this place was super expensive and they barely give you any food. Definitely not a good combo. Their one saving grace is that they made really good Moscow Mules — plus during happy hour they are only $ 5. If you’re in Napa, keep walking, Fish Story is not worth the stop.

My husband and I went on a day adventure to Napa and found this gem of a restaurant. They were closed from 2 to 430 so we did walk around the town and waited until they opened. First, we sat in the bar and had a cocktail that was prepared perfectly. Secondly, when we were seated in the restaurant we fully enjoyed appetizers, a full meal and dessert. Everything was prepared perfectly. Delicious and fresh food We enjoyed shrimp, salmon, mushroom raviolis, and BUTTERSCOTCHPUDDING for dessert!

We had a gift card for Lark Creek restaurant group, so decided to try Fish Story. It was my fiancé’s birthday, and I had called ahead to pre-select a dessert to be brought out as a surprise at the end of dinner. Not only did the guy I speak to have attitude on the phone about it, it also didn’t happen as I had requested and hoped for. The service was just so-so. Our server took a while to get back to us for our drink and food orders, though the food did come out extremely quickly. Portions were small, but well prepared. Overall underwhelmed with the experience, glad we had a gift card, for the price I definitely wouldn’t go back.

Way overpriced for the food that was given. Ordered the lobster entrée and it came out to be only a couple of bite of it. Not cool when you’re paying $ 45 for the dish. Extremely small portion for such a price. The chicken risotto was just ok. Nothing special. Overall I wouldn’t recommend for dinner. Nice looking restaurant, but then again, a lot of restaurants in Napa are good looking.

I went to Fish Story shortly after the Napa Earthquake of 2014. Pretty much here is the experience in a nutshell: 1) Food was excellent and perfectly prepared but portions were extremely small(even for an upscale dining spot). 2) Appetizers were hit and miss. The sweetbreads were among the best i’d ever had. 3) All 5 in the party agreed that the sides were virtually non-existent. I thoroughly enjoyed the risotto, tho, and wish it was offered as a main course. 4) Service was excellent. 5) I was curious when the server said the menu was updated daily since the menu was dated 4 days prior to when I ate there, and the menu on the website hadn’t been updated as of 2 days later, still.

Nice location, but expensive. For a sea food place you would expect them to know their fish and not call Pacific sea bass Dorade, which is a Mediterranean fish, or may be it was confused with the Mexican Dorado which is in fact Mahi Mahi. Portions are small and food is just OK. For the price there is so many good restaurants near by. Also, they will not wave corkage fees for Napa residents as most of the restaurants in the Napa valley do. Service was good though.

We did the tasting menu for our anniversary. They were so nice to have a ‘Happy Anniversary’ printed at the top of our menu. Food was very good. We ate things we had never tried before. We had the wines that paired with the food and enjoyed those pairing tastes. I was worried I would end up with about 4 fish courses, but we had fish and beef and other things. It was good, artistic and yes, filling.

I hate writing reviews for restaurants I haven’t eaten at, but to my credit, I gave it a fair shot. Came in for happy hour, sat at the bar, grabbed a cocktail menu, and was… ignored. For an awkwardly long amount of time… while making eye contact with the other patrons sipping their martinis at the intimately curved bar. I don’t know if it was ageism, I don’t know if it was elitism, I don’t know that it was anything other than them being out of it, but it made both me and DH pretty uncomfortable, and I made the call to tail it out of there. Can’t say there will be a next time for us. Oh well. :-/

I’ve lived in Napa for 14 years, granted this restaurant hasn’t been here this long but I finally opted to dine here. Some of my co-workers and I tried it out and… oh my, I was expecting a much better culinary experience. First the server was very curtious but I couldn’t hear a word he said while he was briefing us on the menu and specials. I ordered a Cesar salad to start and… well what I was brought didn’t look like a Cesar salad and it tasted horrible. The salad was incredibly bitter, more so than my beer! I couldn’t finish it. I was shocked and at this point the only thing keeping this dinning experience alive was literally, the bread and butter. For entries one of my co-workers and I ordered the roasted chicken. When it was brought to the table I wanted to walk out. I’ll quote my co-workers first comment: «It looks like someone threw up on my chicken…» Not a $ 25 plate by any means. I finished it because I was hungry. The portion was small and really the combination of ingredients didn’t exactly give it a spectacular flavor. Finally we were offered dessert and I was, frankly, scared to try anything else. I opted for a Latte instead which was probably the best part of the dinner. If and when a bad dinning experience occurs, some people may ask to have their plate changed out if it was wrong or if it wasn’t of their liking… I just go with the flow and opt to never return which is exactly what I’ll do. First impressions are important and I was not impressed at all, but If you’re in Napa and want to give them a shot, be my guest. Maybe you’ll like it, I didn’t.

I was just there, in the bar Friday night, 5÷30÷2014. I was enjoying my cocktail when a manager in a suit came in and started yelling at the bartender(a sweet woman who seemed like she was actually crying at one point) HE should be ashamed of himself, and I want everyone to know what a jerk he is. Someone sitting next to us, said it wasn’t the first time they had seen this behavior in this restaurant. He is lucky she didn’t walk out, and leave him to do her job. HESHOULDBEFIRED! I will never go back to this dump. You cant treat people like that! What an ass hole!

I’ll make this short and sweet: Overall, I was very disappointed with this restaurant. Went here to celebrate our 10th year Anniversary with the kids but left very UNSATISFIED with SERVICE, FOOD and PRICES! Ordered their ravioli dish for $ 25 and it’s probably the most unflavorful ravioli dish I have ever eaten. The portion was so small and the ravioli filling tasted like steamed spinach with no seasoning! My wife had the $ 38 lobster dish that only came with half of a medium size lobster tail! Yes… HALF! She enjoyed the flavor of the dish itself but how can lobster with butter and cream not be good? ANDLASTLY… THISTOTALLYDISAPPOINTEDME… My son ordered the«cheeseburger slider» from the kids’ menu. And when he took a bite he immediately saw a piece of string cooked right in the buger! He pulled on it and it came out to be about four inches in length! The string could have been DENTALFLOSSOR A PIECEOFSTRINGFROM the CHEF’S SOCKS… who knows! But my son ate a piece of it! Just NASTY!!! The manager apologized and did their best to make it up BUT at that point I had to question every food that came out of that kitchen so we simply passed up on their«offerings»! We simply just asked them to take it out of the bill. The place was nice and our server was friendly. They gave us lots of warm bread so my wife and I still gave the standard tip. But it would have been fully justifiable to leave it out! If you are in napa, pls spend ur money somewhere else. Thank you!

It’s always sad when a place leaves you with mixed emotions for one reason or another. Fish Story was exactly this place… We came in on 3⁄1 a lovely Saturday evening with 8:45pm reservations as a party of 4. The food was sub-par and probably would have been a lot better if our overall experience wasn’t terrible. Our server was almost non-existent, because she was SITTING at the table exactly next to us with her girlfriends who were in the restaurant as guests.(I’m a total fan of having friends visit you at work, but not when you are lacking attention to your other tables). Our food took about 40mins to come out,(because she probably forgot to ring it up). The manager did due diligence and came out to apologize for our long wait, and even offered dessert since our wait was so long. That part can always be appreciated when you know someone actually cares. Food Report Card: Lobster & Crab Bisque C(Too thick and chunky) Scallop Ceviche C–(Very very fishy and almost not fresh tasting) Tempura Rock Shrimp A… Fantastic and the dip is filled with a full flavor Black Cod–(Two of us ordered this dish, and we both enjoyed it very much so. The fish was cooked to perfection and the sides were great as well) We ordered the cheese plate and apple crisp for dessert. You can never go wrong with a dessert. This place seems to have great potential for any occasion, and its just terrible we had to experience our meal with poor service and long wait times.

Had a solid, quality lunch experience here. Very friendly attentive waiters, a little bit formal as opposed to personal. The décor is upscale imaginative, pleasant, and very clean and well built. All in all, a little East Coast style. The lunch special was a good deal, a large chunk of moist, flavorful grilled cod on a fresh soft bun, homemade pickles and pickled onions and homemade tartar sauce, passable fries and a very delicious subtle clam chowder(real clam flavor but low on the butter and cream, no bacon, a modest dose of clams). Outdoor seating by the river on a warm day is perfect(and good with a dog). They have an excellent wine selection, and today at least, no corkage fee!

Spent a long weekend in Napa with the husband and decided to head down to the river for a nice romantic dinner. We were going to go to Zuzu’s but the wait was a bit ridiculous and being the impatient girl that I am, we decided to ditch the idea and head across to Fish Story. We were very pleased we did. The décor is very aquatic. Lobster tanks and fish tanks adorn the interior and the glow of the fish tanks provides a perfect romantic ambiance. We were seated immediately, and our waitress was very prompt. We ordered a half dozen oysters, the ahi sashimi for appetizers. The oysters were good, but the ahi sashimi really stood out. The ahi had pear fruit served with it, and it added a great taste to the already tasty ahi. The flavors went perfectly. For our main dishes, my husband ordered the lamb, and I ordered the mushroom risotto. Both were rich and fantastic. I love that this places«land» food is just as good as their«seafood». Not many fish places can boast that! I also love that the resturant follows the Monterey Bay sustainable seafood program! Big plus for that. I now dont have to feel guilty eatting my seafood. Our experience at Fish Story was great. Fast prompt service for a high quality meal. The only con was that I personally though the dishes were a bit on the small side for the overall price… other than that, this place was great.

We’ve stopped in here a few times to enjoy the happy hour they have. It’s in the bar seven days a week and 4:30 — 6:30 and the menu does not suck. They’ve got a ton of options for under $ 5 if you want something small or if you want to do some tapas style munching as well as fancier fish and oysters type stuff if you want to get something super nom-able. They have a few wines on tap that are only $ 5 and the beer selection is pretty decent as well for $ 3. We had the fried pickles, wings and chowder. All three were on point. For some reason, last time we vacationed to Napa, we had fried pickles on the brain. Of the three orders we placed at three different restaurants, this was the best. They were bottle cap style. Perfect amount of tangy and salty in every bite. The wings weren’t tremendous, but if you have a craving for wings, they’ll totally hit the spot. While the chowder was a leetle thin for my taste, the flavor more than made up for it. Pretty great stuff with a little bit of hot sauce. The people are friendly and the place is clean and inviting. The bar is usually pretty full, but not totally crowded. It’s a roundish type bar, so it’s inviting to talk to other people that are visiting the area and get ideas of where and where not to taste wine while you’re in Napa. Last time we were there, one of the servers was sitting there getting totally fat on some super delicious looking seafood. Had we not already eaten, we totally would have picked his mind for suggestions. I guess that means we’ll just have to go back when we’re in Napa next. I totally recommend this place for an afternoon snack and a drink when you’re in downtown Napa next. It’s a great spot to relax and recharge when you need a break from touristing.

This has to be my favorite place that I have been in Napa for dinner. We walked in at 7:30pm and the bar is near the entrance — away from the diners to make for a quiet more romantic feel in the dining room. The wine selection was amazing and you can see the wine cellar when you walk in and on your way to your table. Also you can see the crab and lobster you are about to eat in the hall leading to the table. The ambiance was amazing. It was packed but I never felt as if it was loud– and I have a hard time hearing as it is. My husband started with the crab cake starter. It was crispy on the outside and so yummy on the inside great seasoning but not overly seasoned. The staff seem to take great pride in their restaurant as if they were part owners and want to make your experience the best possible. The Moscow mule did leave something to be desired — at least for me. :-P The sea scallops with forbidden rice had a green mango sauce with the rice part and I was so amazed at the flavors they got out of a simple rice and scallop dish. I had the Brussels sprouts on the side which were perfectly done. For desert you have to try the butterscotch pudding it is the signature recipe of the owner. Also kudos for them they are in partnership with the Monterey Bay Aquarium and everything in the restaurant is sustainable and organic!

Came here for dinner on a Saturday night and the restaurant was packed! We had the tuna ceviche for appetizer and I had a small cup of the clam chowder. We ordered the prime rib while my friend had the halibut. my fave was the tuna ceviche esp the taro chips that it came with. i can eat that all day!!! it was light, not too salty, and so yummy! crispy! the clam chowder was also light and not as creamy as other clam chowders. lotsa clams inside. prime rib came out warm so i didn’t like it. but the prime rib came with mashed potato and cream of spinach sides. the mashed potato was super smooth, tasty! halibut was very soft and the meat melted in my mouth! i like how the outside was crispy! nice! all in a ll fish story was delicious and i wouldn’t mind coming back again. i just didn’t like the service. it was soooo slow! and our server didn’t seem to know very much about the menu. we wanted to try the crab cake and he said it was«sold out». we asked him to help us double check but he wouldn’t even try. I don’t think he did the best he can to serve us.
