Before I do my little review, a little background on where it’s coming from… There are mediocre Mexican restaurants everywhere that are ok for the basics but you wouldn’t want to delve further into the menu for fear of getting something truly awful(a lesson I learned too many times). It’s hard to screw up a simple taco — though a few local places even manage to do that. With Mexican food being my favorite by far, I can be super critical of Mexican restaurants. Even though I can say I’m a good cook, if some untrained lifelong Midwesterner who’s never been out of the country can do it better, it’s not really a good sign. I’m also extremely picky about quality, especially when it comes to meat. Big chunks of fat have their place in cooking. When it’s eating time, those big chunks of fat should be nowhere near my plate. Wrapping them in a tortilla doesn’t mean I won’t notice them. If it happens, the restaurant won’t get a second chance from me. El Burrito Loco(the one on Harvey St. in Muskegon) is the one local Mexican restaurant I have visited many times and expect to continue to visit regularly for the unforeseeable future. It gets five stars from me, and I have to be pretty impressed to give five stars,. Sure, maybe it won’t be the absolute best meal you’ll eat in your whole lifetime, but it surpasses my two main criteria, far beyond any other local Mexican restaurant, as well as many other non-local ones. And the food really is amazingly good. My first trip there several years ago was limited to the basics, because they have to at least jump over that hurdle before I’ll try anything off the«deep menu». They succeeded well enough at a burrito that I was already trying new things on my second visit there. It’s a large menu, and every time I’ve been there I’ve tried something different. I have never once been disappointed. Everything has always been superb. They’re remarkably consistent that way. Today I decided to try the Burrito Milano(if I remember correctly, which I may not). Grilled shrimp with onions and mushrooms(and refried beans, which I don’t remember being listed in the description) wrapped in a large tortilla and covered in a «cheese sauce» that was pretty thin and definitely had some sour cream in it, and was quite tasty. The dish was absolute heaven. I can’t think of any way it could have been made better. I could easily see myself ordering nothing but this on all future visits if not for my pesky rule about trying something different each time. I may have to adjust the rule a bit. The person I was with went the safe route and ordered a burrito and taco combo plate and seemed quite satisfied, as I knew she would be. I only have three very minor complaints about the place, none of which could deter me from going there. 1 — The soft drinks are Pepsi products, which is sad but then Coke is pretty bad at taking care of their smaller restaurant clients, so I understand when a restaurant makes the decision to go with Pepsi. Still, Coke would be much better. 2 — The place is pretty noisy. Even during slower times of the day when not many people are there, the room is just noisy. But when the food is more important than the atmosphere(as it should be), it hardly matters once you get that first mouthful. And 3 — they really should have picked a better name. El Burrito Loco sounds like some cheap late-night place to go after a night out drinking, which, in other places I’ve lived, is exactly what El Burrito Loco is. It’s a common name, and it doesn’t do the place and its amazing food any justice. That said, don’t be turned off of this place because of the name. You’d only be denying yourself a fantastic meal. Great chips and salsa. I hear their drinks are strong but I don’t drink so I can’t comment on that. Extremely fast service every time I’ve been there, and you’ll get a LOT of high-quality food for the price. This is one of the very few local restaurants(Mexican or not) that I consider a must.

Excellent food. We love it here and Rigo is the best. The atmosphere is always fun, great chips and salsa! Killer margaritas and drinks. The outdoor seating in the summer is fun too!

My son and I had dinner here 12/05/2015. My son cut into his burrito and found a quarter size piece of glass inside it. Thank GOD he did put a big bit in his mouth and swallow or we’d be in the ER right now! We told the server who quickly took the plate away then said the manager would remove my sons meal from our bill. I mean I guess they didn’t realize how serious this was. I spoke to the manager and he actually got mad at use since I told him we shouldn’t have to pay for any of our meal. He stomped off but did come back with our bill taken care off, which really isn’t the point. I will be contacting the health department since it’s obvious they need an inspection. I will also be contacting MOSHA as well. We felt like standing on our chairs and announcing what happened to us, so many family’s with children eating.

The«Mexican flag» was excellent and the nachos are good. The kitchen cooked to order for the kid. Good food, good service. I’ll go back.

I have to say this was one of the best carnitas dinners I’ve had since leaving Los Angeles. The pork was crispy o. The outside and juicy on the inside. The flour tortillas were hand made and delicious. The refried beans were creamy but not over done. The rice was light and fluffy and a great accompaniment to the meal. I could have easily eaten mote of the carnitas. It was truly the star of the show. The chips and salsa were average as was the house margarita. I will be back. I think the Chile Verde is in my sights.

I didn’t expect much from this place when we went but I was completely wrong! The service is fast and the food is excellent! We’ve been back a few times since the first visit and every time it’s been consistently good. — Also, plenty of Vegetarian options!

Had a great meal with very friendly service. The frozen Margarita was good and the fajita burito was excellent. The hot and spicy burito was also very good but be warned it is very spicy.

I haven’t had a better beef enchilada. I’ve eaten incredible Mexican food in El Paso but I have to say the enchiladas here were top notch. Who would have thought such a thing would exist in Michigan. I’m scratching my head over that one. Regardless, I’ll take it! The homemade hot sauce was decent. I’ve had better. It did add a nice kick to the enchilada sauce. Four beers on tap with only one American water beer selection, which I thought a positive. I would recommend this place to a friend.

Christ do these guys do some proper shrimp enchiladas. Sometimes I go there twice a week for those bad boys. Once I met my girlfriend’s dad here, never forget that episode, but the food made it bearable. Margaritas are half off on Wednesday’s, you’re welcome mofo’s.

Went with parents to try this place out. All in all, food was pretty good and came out pretty fast. We were there around 6pm on a Friday night. They have alot of choices. Being from Southern California, we can be a little picky with Mexican food, I think it’s definitely worth coming again for, Only suggestions for them– don’t microwave the tortillas– they are rubbery. Steak in fajitas was overcooked. They have Pepsi not Coke — yuck .But do have some separate bottles of coke in their drink fridge which saved our cocktails. They also have televisions and a full bar which was great.

Ate here at the El Burrito in Muskegon twice the past couple weeks the service was good they bring out chips and salsa which were delicious before they Take your order. I got the chicken fajitas twice because they were so good the first time(nothing like the smell of those green peppers and onions as they sizzle on The plate) my wife gets the bean burrito as she is vegetarian and she say they are delicious also… I am very happy with el burrito so far… Keep up the good work

This is the best authentic Mexican restaurant in the Muskegon area. My favorite is the chicken chimichanga. They also have one of the best margaritas in town and they aren’t skimpy either! Food & drink are always served with fresh warm tortilla chips & flavorful salsa. Look for their nightly specials. Great food, great service(never been slow for me), great atmosphere!

Of the mexican we’ve tried in the area(butch’s, sam’s, etc), this is the only we’d go back and have again. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the meat and veggies. It still doesn’t quite have that traditional flavor but I have given up on hoping for that. Not sure why all mexican food in the midwest uses a watery liquid cheesey-flavored sauce in the place of CHEESE, but this seems to be universal and El Burrito does the rest of it well — the menu is huge, reasonably priced, and has some tasty options. The meat is the best of the local mexican places we’ve tried.

My wife and I have ate there many times and the food is always very good. The fajitas are especially good. The premium margaritas are really tasty, but also a little pricey. The staff is very friendly. I would recommend it.

If you go here, get the ranchero burrito or fajitas. Nothing else. You will then have good remarks about restaurant. The food is prepared very quickly. Wait staff is friendly. I go here at least twice a month.

We eat at this location every week and we love it! It used to just be my family but now we have several friends that meet us there every Wed. too. The food is very good and the service is great! They have ½ price margaritas every wed. and once a month a mariachi band comes in. I highly recommend this place!

I’ve dined at El Burrito before but never at this location. The restaurant was very clean and the food was very good. The lunch specials were pretty reasonably priced with plenty of options. However the service was terribly slow.

My favorite of the Muskegon Mexican restaurants. The all you can eat free chips and salsa is amazing. The entrees are good too. Get anything with the cheese sauce on it and you won’t be disappointed. I have had several types of burritos there that were good. Really strong margaritas too if that is your thing. I think they are half off on wednesdays but don’t quote me. Worth it to go out of your way a bit from the mall.
