Really, I’m impressed. The food is between authentic Cantonese and Americanized so if you are looking for authentic Cantonese food, here will be so-so for you but if you’re not that picky, here is a good place to grab a bite, the good part is that their dishes are made from high quality stuff. The shrimps were so fresh and nicely cooked. Also, the portion of each dish is big. Also very impressive is how clean and bright this place is, even their restrooms are very clean, not like that usually in other Chinese restaurants. Highly recommended.

We have been ordering from this place since we first moved to Mundelein in 2013. We moved from Chicago and had some amazing Chinese restaurants there but when moving here found that our choices in restaurants were limited. We found Hong Kong Chop Suey and while it wasn’t amazing it was a restaurant we enjoyed, and enjoyed often. Until recently that is, our last 3 orders have been subpar to say the least, to the point where we are now done with this place. The first mistake was when our crab rangoons were burnt. We still decided to give them another shot because after all we had been clients for 2 years and had no issues. Then our next time ordering we noticed the fried rice had absolutely no flavor. Again, we figured no one is perfect and maybe they were having an off day. Soooo, we ordered this last time. We were told it would be delivered within the hour. After a little over an hour I called to get an update to see what was going on. I was told that our food was waiting for the delivery guy to come back to pick it up and it would be another 30 minutes. So not only would it have been an hour and a half wait for our food, but then our food would have been sitting out at that point for probably almost an hour as well! No thank you. That will be the last time we ever order from here again.

This was our first time ordering here and this the best Chinese in the area. everything we ordered was fabulous. cashew chicken and beef and broccoli were fantastic. we ordered for delivery so I did not see the inside of the restaurant but the people taking orders and delivering food were very nice.

I’ve been getting chinese food from Hong Kong since moving to the area in 2002. Their egg rolls are the best. Their flavorful wonton soup is loaded with veggies and wontons, which are delicious. My kids love their sweet and sour chicken as well. Haven’t had a bad dish yet. A couple years ago they moved from a carry out only store to a larger place with a dining area. This place is nothing fancy, but the food is always fresh and delicious.

First time at this location… the food was great it was all really tasty and you could tell the vegetables were very fresh, the shakes were satisfying… would def recommend… . the waitress was a little pushy kinda rushed us to order didn’t give us much time to decide but will definitely return when I’m craving chinese food again.

Probably the best chinese restaurant in Mundelein. They have a small parking lot out front which makes for easy in-and-out pick ups when I order for carry out. I have tried a few things on their menu but I think their hunan chicken is the best. It’s got great flavor and a good mix of chicken and vegetables. The front of house is managed by young locals so I have never had a problem ordering on the phone or having a menu item explained to me. Lastly they do a great job of packing your food to go making sure everything is upright and they even put a piece of cardboard in the bottom of the bag to help give it support and absorb small spills before they leak can out of the bag.

After our walk around the lake @ Independence Grove Forest Preserve we were very hungry. We went to the Mundelein Honk Kong Chop Suey. I kind of have mixed reviews for this restaurant Hong Kong Chop Suey. FYI this is the HKCS in Mundelein not Libertyville, 2 different restaurants, 2 different owners. This HKCS has pretty good food with huge portions. There were 4 of us and we ordered 3 dishes family style so we could try different dishes. We ordered Chicken Chow Mein was very good with very generous pie eve of tender chicken & nice crispy Cantonese noodles, beef and pea pods. The beef just melted in your mouth so tender and tasty. We also ordered a fish fillet with Gwilo broccoli. Once again a very generous portion of delicious fish seasoned with ginger & green onions. Even with 4 very hungry people and only 3 dishes we ended up with leftovers as the portion sizes are very generous. The restaurant was packed when we got there, but the service is kind of slow.

The pork fried rice here is awesome. Don’t care for the egg rolls– way too much cinnamon or nutmeg in them.

Amazing food! No complaints. I’ve ordered for myself a couple times and when I had company as well, my visiting family all said this is the best Chinese food they’ve ever had and didn’t think they could order from their local options because this set the bar so high. Something unique about the food, high quality and homemade feel. Not your usual Chinese. My favorites include the vegetable lo mein, vegetable spring roll and Hong Kong Special fried rice. Also, the sweet and sour sauce is a better quality homemade sauce than the bright red that most places offer.

Been coming here since 1995 when they had the restaurant at the long abandoned strip mall across the street. I have not come here in over 2 years due to moving out of the area but when I came here I always have gotten lunch special take out once a week if not twice a week. I loved their sweet and sour chicken and egg roll. Their pan fried noodles is spot on as well. The lunch specials are very generous and the sauces they serve is not the generic chinese sauces for the egg roll sauce nor sweet and sour its actually extraordinary. The sweet and sour chicken is actually a chuck of white meat chicken golden battered theyre heavy on the breading and fried with generous portions of pineapples and vegetables. The fried rice is actually not my favorite here though as theyre heavy on seasoning they use for the rice I think soy. But alot people rave about it. It not the generic chinese mall fried rice. They actually have generous mix ins of meat and vegetables with egg bits.

I have very bad news, I have no idea what happened but the the Crab Rangoon is awful now. Now I have been eating at hong hong since I was five, so you can believe me when I say the food has gone down hill. Now I’m deeply depressed because they had the best crab Rangoon I have ever had, and now I’ll never have it again :(

There food is good. That server is painstakingly slow and forgetful. Brings our food and no plates. Last time there was a ten minute wait for chopsticks. And what’s with no fortune in my cookie twice there one at lee wing Wah. better take out life insurance.

Best Chinese food around! Glad they went from a takeout place to a take out and dine in place . They really needed the space, this place is always crowded. Keep up the good work! Been going to this place for over 10yrs. Never disappointed!

I have been struck by that horrible misfortune of a terrible Chinese experience. I ordered the chicken chow fun substituted tofu instead of chicken, which honestly should be cheaper right? Since I have gone vegetarian rather than meat, lady who took my order said it would be the same price as the chicken chow fun 10.25, fair enough. When my order came out I saw the receipt and it was 10.25+1 for subtituting tofu, WTF??? I was so angry I did not even bother to ask about it. Next I looked at my chow fun and it is sooo greasy, the box that had my chow fun it in was so greasy the grease seeped through the box and leaked onto the table. WOW. The chow fun was drenched in this weird gravy, now I see that this is looking consistent with the rest of the pictures people post on here, everything is corn starch sauce based, ew. Never had any chow fun quite as weird and off as this. Next the tofu is this white chunk, not the typical fried tofu you would get… lord. My other order was the singapore noodle, without ham and bbq pork. The shrimp is so small I could barely tell they are shrimps. I hate small shrimps you might as well not give me any because they don’t even taste like shrimp! Way too much scallion in it, I very much dislike it when Chinese places use canned mushroom in my food. Made the whole noodle soggy. The flavor is also not quite right in my noodle, something is off about the curry powder they used. Free egg roll with any order over $ 15. I was able to get a spring roll instead but LORDTHATSPRINGROLLSTILLTASTEDLIKEANEGGROLL! The skin of the egg roll was so thick i feel like I was chewing through leather. The inside had way too much pepper I sneezed immediately, practically nothing else inside that eggroll but cabbage. \ They also have smoothies here, $ 3.25, no tapioca. I did not get any. DEFINITELYWILLNOTBEBACK. I think this well is highly rated, I mean at least 4 stars is unheard of for any chinese takeout places is because I see the demographics of people who dine here are mostly older and non ethnic. So they probably cater towards this group of folks. Probably also doesn’t have much competition around the Mundelein area either. Basically, if you want good Chinese takeout, don’t come to Mundelein, this isn’t the village you will find it. In sum, expensive food, a lot of food but none of it is any good, now I am trying to figure out how to get rid of my food without being wasteful. The 7 year old girl playing outside can cook better than this. Disaster.

Pretty much a middle of the road experience. Ordered egg rolls, crab Rangoon and Kung pao chicken based on a quick scan of fellow Unilocaler reviews. I was not told by the person taking my order I received an egg roll with the Kung pao chicken(but it was delicious so all good!!) Egg rolls were delicious and as another review notes not full of Bok Choy fillet. The crab Rangoon were not my favorite. I prefer my Rangoon to be a small pocket of densely packed filling. Although the filling was good here the Rangoon was not folded tightly which left a lot of crispy won ton(which can be delicious) The Kung pao was pretty disappointing. No heat and very little chicken. As always it tasted better as left overs the next day: D
