As a PUERTOVALLARTO connoisseur, I’ve had the pleasure of eating at all 3 of Muncie’s «PUERTO’s» !! Having just moved from another state, where the«PUERTO’s» preceded Muncie’s, I have expectations of their restaurants. This«PUERTO» is a good one; great food, service, atmosphere, & clean. This place seems to be a «family» restaurant, as there were many children, & the noise level was somewhat higher than the other two, of the brand. FOOD was great !!!

Their food has went down hill. Everything was so bland on our visit today. The refried beans were soupy and had no flavor. The only way to make them palatable was to pour salsa on them. This in turn made them even runnier. The rice, while well cooked, had very little spice in it. It had a yellow hue that would indicate they put something in there. Whatever it is, it’s not enough flavor to warrant calling it «Mexican» rice. While the entrée itself wasn’t bad. I’ve had better. You can see into the kitchen from the entrance and when they cook the meat, they put a portion on the grill along with onions and green peppers, squirt some red stuff on it and that’s it. There’s no indication that they marinade the meat at all. The service, on the other hand, is always great. Nevertheless, everyone in my family agrees that we are not going back there anymore.

The one and –well not only, there are two more of them in town. But this is the original. When this place first opened in Muncie, most of the non-chain Mexican restaurants had closed and we were left with Chi chi’s and Taco Bell. It was nice to get a more authentic place in town.(ok, maybe not SO authentic, but Midwestern authentic). Affectionately known at «Porta’s» in town, this place is in a no-tell motel, but I feel comfortable telling you that the food is pretty solid. Always good tortilla chips and fajitas. This original«Porta’s» may or may not have been the object of an epic car race from the local high school by students who had snuck out of school during lunch break.

The servers are nice, and great staff as well. However, they could take a little more time being sincere and genuine about their business. Don’t get me wrong if you like to meet up with family and friends for a good night this is the place to start. Just don’t have to high of standards and enjoy the sort of food and wall arts.

For some Mexican food in Muncie, this is the best you’re going to get! The drinks are pretty good — love the Margaritas and Pina Coladas. The food is plentiful, the platter sizes are large and the offerings are various. The prices are pretty affordable and includes pretty good service. I always leave way too full!
